Last Man Standing showrunner Kevin Abbott is at last acknowledging the absence of a significant character who vanished without a trace ahead of the Fox comedy’s ninth and final season.
We’re of course talking about Mike and Vanessa’s first grandchild Boyd, previously played by twins Evan and Luke Kruntchev (in Season 1), Flynn Morrison (in Seasons 2-6) and, most recently, Jet Jurgensmeyer (in Seasons 7-8). Kristin and Ryan’s son was last seen during Season 8’s gender reveal party, where it was confirmed that Boyd would soon have a baby sister. After that, the character was referenced only...

Mike (Tim Allen) and Vanessa Baxter (Nancy Travis) are not playing around on Friday’s “Last Man Standing” season finale — or at least they are trying not to.
In TheWrap’s exclusive sneak peek from the Fox comedy’s Season 7 closer, Mike and Vanessa decide it’s high time that Mandy (Molly McCook) and Kyle (Christoph Sanders) move out of the Baxter household and into an apartment. They mean it. They are gonna do this, “tough love” and all that.
Except, uh, Mandy and Kyle are apparently just fine where they are, thank you, and don’t really want the apartment. What?!? Nancy’s stern face and pointing were all for nothing?!?
Here’s the official description for Friday’s finale, aptly titled “A Moving Finale,” guest-starring Kaitlyn Dever: When Mandy and Kyle are hesitant to move out of the Baxter household and into their own place, Mike gives them some tough love.

Fans were thrilled when Last Man Standing was given a new lease on life thanks to Fox. Despite only being off the air for one television season, there were a couple of noticeable changes to the hit shows return.
One of those changes was Kristen and Ryan's son Boyd was aged to a teenager. The very talented Jet Jurgensmeyer made his debut on Last Man Standing Season 7 Episode 1.
However, the show is only the latest in a long list of accomplishments, from the young man. Along with a slew of acting credits, which includes playing Jack's grandson on Will & Grace, Jurgensmeyer is also making waves in the music business.
Yes, he is a singer and songwriter too! He continues to make new music and release new videos despite being on a fixture on Last Man Standing.

‘Last Man Standing’ Promotes Krista Marie Yu, Who Plays Baxters’ Exchange Student, to Series Regular
Take your coat off, stay awhile. Krista Marie Yu has been promoted to a series regular on Tim Allen’s “Last Man Standing.”
Yu’s character, a foreign exchange student from Hong Kong named Jen, was introduced to the Baxters in a November episode. At the time, Jen met with Mike (Allen) and Vanessa (Nancy Travis) to see if she’d be a good fit to stay in their Colorado family home. That was a guest spot for Yu (“Dr. Ken”).
She must have felt right at home, as Jen moved in last Friday. Writers on the former ABC sitcom must be giddy with the possibilities.

Last Man Standing‘s foreign exchange student is extending her study abroad.
The Tim Allen comedy has promoted Krista Marie Yu to series regular after two episodes, Deadline reports. Her character, Jen, was first introduced as Vanessa’s protégé in November 2018. Her most recent appearance came in the Jan. 11 episode.
Word of the series’ adding a foreign-exchange-student character broke during Last Man Standing‘s panel at the Television Critics’ Association summer press tour last July. At the time, Abbott teased that the character would come from a “different political system,” paving the way for some “wonderful discussions and conflicts” within the Baxter household.

The recastings continue for “Last Man Standing.” Now on Fox and with former recurring guest star Erika Alexander unavailable, Tisha Campbell has been picked to play Chuck Larabee’s (Jonathan Adams) wife Carol Larabee, TheWrap has confirmed.
Alexander (right), who did 10 episodes of the Tim Allen comedy during its ABC days, currently recurs on two series: CW’s “Black Lightning” and HBO’s “Insecure.” She’s unavailable for this one.
Carol, the wife of Mike Baxter’s (Allen) neighbor and co-worker Chuck, was introduced in Season 2 of the 20th Century Fox-produced “Last Man Standing” and became best friends with Mike’s wife, Vanessa (Nancy Travis). In the show’s final season on ABC, however, Carol left Denver for a one-year-long work assignment out in California. Chuck stayed behind.

Last Man Standing is back, roughly 17 months after its initial cancellation at ABC — but is the Fox revival any good?
The Season 7 premiere, titled “Welcome Baxter,” begins with an extraordinarily meta cold open. The family awaits Eve’s return from the Air Force Academy, while Kyle sits on the couch, worried that his favorite TV show’s been cancelled.
Kyle: “I’m trying to DVR my favorite show, but it’s not on.”
Vanessa: “Oh, well maybe it got cancelled. You know, the TV business can be a heartless bastard.”
Kyle: “Cancelled? Why would they cancel a popular show that everybody loves?...

Last Man Standing will be down yet another fan-favorite this fall. Mike’s father Bud (played by veteran actor Robert Forster) will have passed on when the Tim Allen sitcom returns for Season 7, TVLine has confirmed.
As longtime fans will recall, Bud ran a pot dispensary in Denver named — wait for it! — Bud’s Buds, which Mike loathed. His father’s legacy will live on throughout the Fox revival, as another member of the family steps in to oversee the business. “Ryan will be taking over the daily running of the shop,” exec producer Kevin Abbott tells TVLine.

Last Man Standing has already recast two of Mike and Vanessa Baxter’s three daughters (most recently casting Molly McCook as Mandy 2.0), and is not about to recast a third. As such, the producers are working hard to accommodate former series regular Kaitlyn Dever, who will return to freshly revived Tim Allen sitcom on a recurring basis.
Executive producer Kevin Abbott confirmed to TVLine (as part of our in-depth Fall Preview) that Dever, who is now attached as a series regular on the upcoming Netflix drama Unbelievable, will appear in at least two episodes of the Last Man revival this fall.

Last Man Standing‘s Mike Baxter has never been one to mince words. In the first footage from Season 7, Tim Allen’s politically incorrect character takes aim at the Fox sitcom’s former network, ABC.
The above promo begins with a voiceover reminding viewers that Last Man Standing was previously cancelled. We then cut to Kyle and Vanessa, who are having a conversation in front of the television.
“Why would they cancel a popular show that everybody loves?” Kyle asks. Mike soon enters with a not-so-subtle response. “Maybe they’re a bunch of idiots!” he says. He then turns to his wife and says,...

Eve’s soon-to-be vacant bedroom has already found a new occupant. Last Man Standing has cast former Dr. Ken star Krista Marie Yu in the recurring role of Jen, a foreign exchange student, TVLine has learned exclusively.
Jen will first be introduced in Episode 4 of the ABC-turned-Fox sitcom. Vanessa takes the young scholar under her wing and convinces Mike to let her stay with them while she completes her schooling in the States. “Vanessa feels particularly tied to [Jen] because she’s interested in geology,” exec producer Kevin Abbott tells TVLine. “Vanessa’s always wanted to encourage [young women] to go into the sciences.

Last Man Standing is being revived at Fox over a year after its ABC cancellation, but two characters will have brand new faces.
The sitcom is adding Molly McCook and Jet Jurgensmeyer to the cast of Last Man Standing Season 7.
McCook will play the role of Mandy. Molly Ephraim played the character when the show was on ABC, but Ephraim decided against returning when the show was revived.
Jurgensmeyer is taking over from Flynn Morrison in the role of Boyd. While Ephraim's departure was a decision from the actress, it sounds like Morrison's was down to producers wanting the character of Boyd to be older.
McCook has a TV resume that includes The Ranch, Modern Family, Glee, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Good Trouble, the spinoff of The Fosters.
Related: Last Man Standing: Revived at Fox!
Jurgensmeyer is probably most well-known for his role on Will & Grace as Jack's grandson.

“Last Man Standing” is adding Molly McCook and Jet Jurgensmeyer to its sitcom cast.
McCook has landed the role of Mandy, one of Tim Allen and Nancy Travis’ on-screen daughters in the series. The role was previously played by Molly Ephraim when the series was on ABC. Ephraim opted not to reprise the role when Fox picked up the seventh season a year after ABC originally canceled it.
Jurgensmeyer replaces Flynn Morrison in the role of Boyd. Boyd is Allen’s character’s grandson, the son of his daughter Kristin (Amanda Fuller). Producers recently said they wanted to “age up” the character to about 12 years old.
McCook most recently appeared on Netflix sitcom “The Ranch,” but her other television credits include “Modern Family,” “Agents of Shield,” and “Glee.” She will also soon appear on “Good Trouble,” Freeform’s upcoming spinoff of “The Fosters.”

After a lengthy search, the upcoming revival of Last Man Standing has found actors to play two key roles that have been recast. Molly McCook (Good Trouble) will play the middle daughter Mandy, and Jet Jurgensmeyer (Will & Grace) will play the grandson Boyd, respectively, of Tim Allen’s Mike Baxter in the upcoming series on Fox.
The duo replaced original cast members Molly Ephraim and Flynn Morrison, who played Mandy and Boyd during the series’ run on ABC. They have opted not to return for Season 7.
McCook is recurring on The Fosters spinoff series Good Trouble. Jurgensmeyer played Jack’s (Sean Hayes) grandson Skip in a memorable episode of the NBC revival series last season.
Created by Jack Burditt, Last Man Standing stars Allen as a married father of three girls who tries to maintain his manliness in a world increasingly dominated by women.

It’s not just theatrical movies (like Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Star Trek Beyond, or Jumanji) that are currently trading on nostalgia. Small screen projects are also following suit. Nickelodeon is planning perhaps the most significant of these, with a TV movie based on the popular 1990s game show, Legends Of The Hidden Temple – which now has a premiere date.
Originally created by David G. Stanley, Scott A. Stone and Stephen Brown in 1993, Legends Of The Hidden Temple ran for 120 episodes – each featuring six teams of two 11-14 year olds. The teams competed to find and collect artefacts in a temple filled with treasures, guarded by Mayan protectors. To succeed, the competitors would have to answer questions and undertake physical tasks. The show was hosted by Kirk Fogg, and featured narration from Dee Bradley Baker in the guise of a talking stone head named Olmec.
