- Michael Hankinson was born on January 23, 1946 in Liverpool, New South Wales, Australia. He is a composer, known for Shangani Patrol (1970), While She Was Out (2008) and Die Banneling (1971).

- 'The Astronauts', the library cue used in 'War Games', a Season One episode of Space 1999, was originally recorded for an earlier South African film production. It was recorded at RPM Studios in Johannesburg with a 65 piece orchestra. Some of Michael Hankinson's work was liked by Teddy Holmes, the head of the Chappell Recorded Production Music Library in London. Asked by Teddy if he had anything else, Michael submitted the score, including 'The Astronauts'. After it had been used in the original film production, Michael had bought back the rights the sold them to Chappells.
- He got into composing for film and television via Norman Percival, who at the time was Head Of BBC Music Department. Eddie Calvert was his lead trumpeter on his first BBC music score. While in South Africa and recording library music, scores would be sent out from Chappell's in London. These would be cues written by regular Chappell's library composers, including Robert Farnon.
- Founder of The King's Lynn Sinfonia. The inaugural concert is 10th October 2015 at King's Lynn Minster. Adrian Richards performing organ solos. Music performed will include Vivaldi, Albinoni and Paulenc. Money raised for musical educational projects.
- Lived in South Africa from 1970 but returned in 2014 due to rising crime and violence. Semi-retired but happy. Can choose projects as and when he likes.
