The police officer who shot and killed Amir Locke while executing a no-knock search warrant won’t face charges.
Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison and Hennepin County Attorney Michael Freeman announced the decision Wednesday, April 6. A joint statement called Locke’s death “a tragedy” and railed against no-knock warrants, but ultimately stated “there is insufficient admissible evidence to file criminal charges in this case.”
A lawyer for Locke’s family did not immediately return Rolling Stone’s request for comment.

In 2020, police reformers had many believing that Minneapolis was headed in the right direction.
After Black Lives Matter protests demanded accountability following the murder of George Floyd, a Black man who was murdered by a white officer, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey proposed a series of reforms to address the unrest.
One of the major proposals was to also restrict the use of unannounced raids known as “no-knock warrants” — a controversial practice that allows police to enter a property without announcing their presence beforehand — at one point, there were more than...

“Short Circuit,” Disney’s experimental shorts program, returns August 4 on Disney+ with five new animated works about personal growth: “Crosswalk” concerns a pedestrian frustrated by a street light that won’t change; “Dinosaur Barbarian,” the program’s first 2D short, conjures a caveman superhero trying to clean up his act; “Going Home” explores a young adult repeatedly visiting his hometown; “No 2 to Kettering” follows a shy British girl who takes a dreary bus ride every morning; and “Songs to Sing in the Dark” offers a battle in a dark cave between two constantly evolving creatures.
“Each [director] had a personal connection to their short, and that was a great starting point,” said “Short Circuit” production manager Jennifer Newfield. “That gave them a clear direction and engagement with the story.”
Ryan Green (“Crosswalk”) imagined his ancestors urging him on instead of waiting for the light to change; Kim Hazel (“Dinosaur Barbarian”) channeled...

On May 25th, George Floyd died after being continuously and repeatedly choked by a Minneapolis police officer.
The cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul have risen up in protest in the days since Floyd’s death, which came less than four years after a Twin Cities police officer killed Philando Castile in another case that horrified the nation. On Wednesday evening, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz activated the National Guard. While the four officers involved in Floyd’s death were fired from the police department within 24 hours, the officer who choked...

After U.S. Attorney Erica MacDonald held a press conference on the killing of George Floyd by police, CNN’s Don Lemon blasted President Trump and MacDonald for speaking about the president’s involvement in the case.
During the Thursday press conference, MacDonald said the investigation into George Floyd’s death is ongoing and did not announce any charges against the four Minneapolis police officers involved. But according to Mediaite, the attorney general did say: “President Trump, as well as Attorney General William Barr, are directly and actively monitoring the investigation in this case.

This is a story that I completely overlooked last year and I’m glad someone posted this video to Reddit today. If you haven’t seen “The Present” then you need to stop what you’re doing right now and allow this 4 minutes to enter your life. The Present is a 2014 animated short film directed and co-written by Jacob Frey and co-written with Markus Kranzler. It is based on “Perfeição”, a comic strip by Fabio Coala. The short film tells the story of a teenage boy who gets a three-legged puppy from his mom, eventually warming up to it. The film

"The Present" is a fantastically animated short film about a boy engulfed by and distracted with video games who is given a new dog as a present by his mom. Excited, the boy opens the box to find a playful dog. As the boy looks the dog over, he finds a physical flaw and tosses the dog aside and doesn’t want to have anything to do with him. He picks up his controller and starts playing his game again. As the story continues, the dog continues to play and fumble around until the boy warms up to him. There’s more to it than just that, but I don’t want to spoil anything for you.
The animation is absolutely beautiful and the story will definitely spark several different kinds of emotions in you. n the end, it leaves you with a warm feeling that has the power to wow you.

Take a look at Jacob Frey's award-winning short film The Present, which is "a thesis short from the Institute of Animation, Visual Effects and Digital Postproduction at the Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg in Ludwigsburg, Germany." I don't want to say anything about it until you have the chance to see it for yourselves, so watch it and then meet me below:
So I know we're supposed to feel all nice and heartwarm-y after seeing that, but the first thing I thought as this short was playing out was: this kid is the worst. Obviously, by the end it's revealed that he's suffering from something that should make him a little more endearing to us, and that recontextualizes his reaction when he first notices the dog's missing paw, but don't you think that someone in his situation would have more compassion for a dog like that instead of less? I mean, this kid freaking kicks a puppy.

Though the big announcement isn't for a few days yet, new details about the next game in Ubisoft's popular "Assassin's Creed" series have arrived. The codename "Assassin's Creed: Victory" appears to be out, rather the new game's title will be "Assassin's Creed: Syndicate".
According to Polygon, the game aims to "transport millions of gamers to an astonishing recreation of London during the Industrial Revolution where they will find themselves immersed in a game world they'll have to see to believe."
Players will take on the role of London-based Assassin Jacob Frey, and a replicate of his shilling necklace will be a GameStop pre-order bonus. Further details are not available at this time.
This also marks the first game in the main series primarily developed by Ubisoft Quebec rather than Ubisoft Montreal. The company will officially announce the game on Tuesday at 9am Us-pdt. It's expected to hit stores around November.
