YouTube has canceled “Escape the Night” after four seasons, ending its longest-running original series, Variety has confirmed. The semi-scripted murder-mystery series was hosted by Joey Graceffa, who presided over the retro mega-collab in which a famous YouTuber got killed off in each episode.
But Graceffa isn’t letting “Escape the Night” fade to black.
In a video posted Tuesday, he said Season 5 of the show was not happening “this year” but he left the door open for the series to return (which would be under different auspices now that YouTube has dropped it). “I don’t know when there will be a Season 5,” Graceffa said, saying it was unable to go forward because Covid-19 production shutdowns.
Graceffa didn’t say that “Escape the Night” was canceled. However, a source tells Variety that YouTube declined to pick up “Etn” Season 5.

Comedic YouTube star GloZell Green has joined forces with People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals (PETA) for an online campaign aiming to prove that vegans can splurge just as heartily as their meat-eating counterparts.
In honor of National Splurge Day yesterday, Green -- who has been open about her veganism for years -- created a mukbang-style video with PETA alongside the actor Kate Duffy, in which the two chowed down on meat-free BBQ chicken wings, caviar, tacos, crab cakes, and an entire Thanksgiving meal. The video also served to promote the fact that PETA offers vegan starter kits for prospective converts, which include ideas for vegan versions of classic dishes.
"t's delicious," GloZell proclaims. "And no animals had to be hurt. Hallelujah, Green says in the video. "I hope I'm not being punked. Because it really does taste like cheese," she says. "I'm telling you, vegan food has come a long way....

Three of YouTube’s biggest stars are uniting to educate millennials on the value of their vote.
Todrick Hall, GloZell Green and Sam Tsui have created a series of videos urging young voters to head to the polls on Nov. 8 and vote for Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.
The clips find each of the social media superstars surprising an unsuspecting fan in Florida, Pennsylvania, and Ohio with an over-the top stunt. The fans don’t know the performance is coming. And they also don’t know who they’ll be voting for — or if they’ll be voting at all!

The ad campaign, titled One Vote At A Time, features GloZell Green, Todrick Hall, and Sam Tsui creating over-the-top surprises for three of their biggest fans in Florida, Pennsylvania, and Ohio, who are not sure about whether or not to vote come Nov. 8.

On June 7th, YouTube star GloZell Green released Is You Okay?, a self-styled memoir that adds her name to the list of digital personalities who double as published authors. By entering the literary world, GloZell is following the lead of many of her colleagues, but her effort is anything but ordinary. Instead, she uses her age -- she turns 44 in July -- and her experience to share a story younger creators cannot tell.
GloZell, like Ricky Dillon, stylized her book as both a homage to the challenge videos for which she is famous and a revelation about the past events in her life that have led her to this point. “The creative process was theraputic, fun and sometimes uneasy,” she told Tubefilter. She explained how she had to relive relive the past and realize “what it took, who and what I lost, and who and what I've gained to get where I am today.”
What GloZell ultimately chronicles is a remarkable transformation. As she puts it, she grew up in a world with typewriters, landlines, and a limited number of TV channels. Despite all that, she has entered a field populated by creators who were born into social media, and has thrived within that world, racking up more than 730 million views and over 4.3 million subscribers. “My book is unique because I am older,” she said. “I have a wisdom that is unique to my story.”

At its first-ever NewFronts presentation this evening, AwesomenessTV founder Brian Robbins pointedly noted that the company had no news to share on the virtual reality front, which happened to be a recurring theme at many of this year’s other presentations.
However, Robbins did note that ATVwas foraying into another buzzy digital realm: chat bots -- or popular software that’s designed to simulate conversations with users over the Internet. A so-called AwesomenessTV bot debuted today on the instant messaging app Kik -- which Robbins said is used by 40% of U.S. teens -- that will enable fans to dialogue with the network. In the future, Awesomeness will debut new bots based on characters from its scripted series to offer viewers “companion narratives, behind-the-scenes features, and alternative endings,” the company said in a press release.
All told, Awesomeness content is available on 31 platforms today, including its just-launched Apple TV app.

Two top YouTube stars will lend their voices to an upcoming animated movie. Beauty guru Kandee Johnson and vlogger Ricky Dillon have joined the cast of Trolls, which will be produced by DreamWorks Animation.
Trolls will bring troll dolls, which have experienced multiple periods of popular appeal since their first production in the 1950s, to the big screen. The film’s voice cast will be an eclectic group that will include Hollywood celebrities Justin Timberlake and Anna Kendrick, musicians Gwen Stefani and Icona Pop, late night TV host James Corden, and at least four YouTube stars. Beyond Johnson and Dillon, online video creators GloZell Green and Meg DeAngelis will have their own roles in the movie, as announced back in January.

You wait weeks for an animation trailer and suddenly, three arrive at one. On the heels of Disney Animation and Illumination rolling out new snippets for Zootopia and The Secret Life of Pets, respectively, DreamWorks has made it three for three with our first look at Mike Mitchell and Walt Dohrn’s Trolls movie.
As the team behind the studio’s Shrek franchise, Mitchell and Dohrn are poised to tackle an entirely new fantasy romp with Trolls. Having written and produced original music for DreamWorks, Justin Timberlake headlines the adventure as Branch, a budding explorer who teams with Poppy (Pitch Perfect star Anna Kendrick) for an adventure.
Even after today’s teaser, not much is known about what the adventure will entail, which is more designed to introduce the colorful balls of fuzz and their respective personalities. Nevertheless, here’s the official logline per DreamWorks: “Setting out on an epic...

20th Century Fox has released the first trailer for their animated film Trolls, which is based on the popular toys from the 1990s. I know the trailer doesn't show much, and you can't really tell how good or bad its going to be, but it certainly looks like it will be ridiculous. This is coming from a guy who was never into the Troll dolls, though.
Here's the synopsis:
DreamWorks' Trolls is a hair-raising comedy filled with unbelievable adventure and incredible music. Known for their crazy, colorful, and magical hair, Trolls are the happiest, most joyous creatures ever to burst into song. But their world of rainbows and cupcakes is changed forever when their leader Poppy (Anna Kendrick,) must embark on a rescue mission that takes her far beyond the only world she’s ever known.
The film stars Anna Kendrick as Princess Poppy, James Corden as Biggie, Russell Brand as Creek,...
