IFC Films has acquired Xavier Gens’ action spectacle “Mayhem!” (“Farang”) from Studiocanal ahead of its premiere at Montreal’s Fantasia Film Festival.
Produced by Vincent Roget (Same Player) and Dimitri Stephanides (WTFilms), “Mayhem!” will be released in 2024.

Exclusive: Sony Pictures has snapped up U.S., Canada and key international for Studiocanal and Heyday Films’ threequel Paddington in Peru.
Sony, which has a long history with live-action kids movies, i.e., Lyle Lyle Crocodile and Goosebumps, always wanted in on this franchise, and now they’ve notched it. When the North American rights for Paddington 2 came up in a $30 million-plus auction, Sony was one of the bidders with Warner Bros, though that sequel ultimately went to Heyday’s Harry Potter studio. Through two movies worldwide, Paddington has reaped over a half-billion at the box office with the franchise counting such BAFTA nominations as Best British Film and Best Adapted Screenplay.
Deadline first told you that the threequel was in the works. Paddington in Peru sees the bear embark on a new adventure that will take him from Windsor Gardens to Peru in the latest installment of the Paddington franchise.

Focus Features and Monumental Pictures announced on January 13, 2023 that they will partner on Back to Black, the highly anticipated feature film about the late Amy Winehouse’s vibrant years living in London in the early aughts and her intense journey to fame, which begins filming in London on January 16th. Acclaimed filmmaker and visual artist Sam Taylor-Johnson will direct and executive produce the film, with break-out star Marisa Abela landing the coveted lead role. Focus will distribute the film in the United States, with Universal Pictures International handling international distribution, excluding the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Aus/Nz, Benelux, Scandinavia, and Poland which will be handled by Studiocanal.

Focus Features is bringing Amy Winehouse to the big screen. The studio has acquired “Back to Black,” the upcoming biopic of the beloved singer from Studiocanal, it was announced Friday. Focus Features also released a first look image from the film, featuring lead actor Marisa Abela in character as Winehouse.
News of this biopic about Winehouse’s life was first announced last July, with Abela reportedly joining the project later that month. The film will follow the acclaimed music artist’s rise to fame through her 2006 album “Back to Black,” before her tragic 2011 death from alcohol poisoning. Exclusive: Lionsgate just landed a solid thriller for its slate. In competition with other distributors, the company has acquired U.S., Canada and India distribution rights to Retribution, an action thriller from Studiocanal and The Picture Company that stars Liam Neeson. The Nimród Antal-directed film is a remake of the Spanish movie El Desconocido, which received eight Goya Award noms when it was released in Spain in 2015.
The remake also stars Noma Dumezweni, Matthew Modine, Lily Aspell, Jack Champion (a star of the upcoming Avatar sequels), Embeth Davidtz and Arian Moayed. The Picture Company partners Andrew Rona & Alex Heineman produced the film along with Jaume Collet-Sera and Juan Sola.

Saban Films has acquired North American rights to “Long Story Short,” written by, directed by and co-starring Josh Lawson. Momentum Pictures acquires drama set to world premiere in Toronto.
Stephen Frears’ Lance Armstrong biopic The Program has been acquired by Momentum Pictures for North America.
The deal was brokered by Aska Yamaguchi at StudioCanal and by Larry Greenberg and Katharyn Howe for Momentum Pictures.
The film, which follows disgraced cycling champion Armstrong’s doping scandal and downfall, will world premiere tonight (Sept 13) at the Toronto International Film Festival.
The biopic, which stars Ben Foster and Chris O’Dowd, is slated for release winter 2016.
Frears (The Queen, Philomena) directed The Program from a screenplay by John Hodge (Trainspotting) who adapted the script from David Walsh’s book Seven Deadly Sins: My Pursuit of Lance Armstrong.
Working Title’s Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner produced the film alongside Tracey Seaward and Kate Solomon, while Olivier Courson, Ron Halpern, Amelia Granger and Liza Chasin executive produced.
