Death to All — the all-star tribute outfit honoring the band Death and its late frontman Chuck Schuldiner — have announced a 2024 North American tour that will celebrate two eras of the legendary death metal act. The trek will feature support from Cryptopsy.
The outing, dubbed “The Scream of Perseverance Tour,” will find Death to All performing two shows in most cities. The first night will feature the band playing the classic Scream Bloody Gore in full, as well as classic tunes from Leprosy and Spiritual Healing. The second night will find the band performing The Sound of Perseverance in its entirety, along with songs from Human, Individual Thought Patterns, and Symbolic. In cities where Death to All play only one concert, the shows will feature an all-encompassing “greatest classics” setlist.
The tour kicks off with a two-night stand at the Milwaukee Metal Fest on May 18th and 19th, and runs through...

Every month we celebrate the new releases on Screambox, but occasionally we randomly sneak new titles onto the streaming service.
This month, we added the excellent documentary, Death by Metal, which celebrates the birth of death metal and late guitarist and vocalist Chuck Schuldiner.
The doc tells the story of the influential American death metal band Death, founded in 1983 by Schuldiner, which produced several masterpieces through Schuldiner’s death in 2001.
Death’s burning speed and ferocity was only matched by Chuck’s unbending determination to bash out the most boundary-crushing interpretation of heavy metal.
Also streaming on Screambox is The Decline of Western Civilization: Part II, which dissects the world of heavy metal through interviews with Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Alice Cooper, Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Lemmy Motorhead, Ozzy Osbourne, Bret Michaels, Rikki Rocket, Dave Mustaine, and C.C. Deville; and The Sound of Scars, which tells the story of three...

Volbeat frontman Michael Poulsen has formed a new death metal band called Asinhell. The trio has announced its first album, titled Impii Hora, along with unveiling its first single, “Fall of the Loyal Warrior.”
While fans are most familiar with the metallic rockabilly vibe of Volbeat, Poulsen was actually dabbling in death metal long before he formed his successful rock band. Prior to Volbeat’s launch, the Danish musician fronted the death metal band Dominus, who released a string of albums and EPs during their decade-long run from 1991 to 2001.
Now, Poulsen has returned to his extreme roots with Asinhell. Instead of fronting the band himself, he recruited singer Marc Grewe to handle lead vocals. Drummer Morten Toft Hansen (from the Danish band Raunchy) rounds out the lineup.
“We’re very excited to share the first taste of Asinhell with ‘Fall of the Loyal Warrior,'” said Poulsen in a press release.

Metal and classical music, two genres that thrive on grandiosity, virtuosity, and a certain kind of unabashed awesomeness, are a natural fit. Metallica’s S&m series proved that on a mass scale, but the styles are also meshing in the underground. You’ll rarely see the metal/classical affinity demonstrated so plainly as in a new live video from DeathOrchestra, a hybrid ensemble that brings together a death-metal band and a scaled down symphony orchestra. And it makes perfect sense that they’re playing the work of Death: a...

In 2017, when Rolling Stone counted down the top 100 metal albums of all time, Human, a 1991 LP by Florida outfit Death, landed at number 70. Death are widely credited with helping to launch the death-metal subgenre with their grisly, unrelenting 1987 debut Scream Bloody Gore, but by 1991, bandleader Chuck Schuldiner had more on his mind than raw extremity. Human’s opening seconds made that clear: The album’s first track, “Flattening of Emotions,” starts with a mind-bending drum intro, layering supple tom-tom rolls over pounding double bass, that sounds like a tribal riff...
