The Movie: "Kevin Can F*** Himself
Where You Can Stream It: AMC+
The Pitch: How terrible it would be to be married to a man like Peter Griffin or the "King of Queens" himself, Doug Heffernan? That's what Valerie Armstrong set out to answer in her dramedy, "Kevin Can F*** Himself."
Annie Murphy plays Allison McRoberts, née Devine, a desperately unhappy woman in Worcester, Massachusetts. She works at a liquor store alongside her aunt Diane (Jamie Denbo) and is stuck in her dead-end marriage to Kevin (Eric Peterson). On top of being a stereotypical Masshole (he loves the Patriots and Dunkin more than his wife), Kevin is selfish, lazy, and prone to harebrained schemes. And yet, the universe itself loves him.

When my review of the final season of “Kevin Can F Himself” dropped in August I didn’t expect much response. The series has the small devoted following it has gathered in just two seasons, but it’s far from as rabid as other AMC network shows like “Better Call Saul.” But within days my email and social media inboxes were flooded with fans asking one question: Do Allison (Annie Murphy) and Patti (Mary Hollis Inboden) kiss?
This wasn’t asked with prurient interest, but instead with fans curious if the series cemented a romantic, queer relationship between the pair. And it’s certainly understandable considering the trajectory the two have been on since the show started. Back in Season 1, Patti and Allison were classic enemies at odds with each other. They seemingly had little in common, especially since Patti was part of the group of friends Allison’s horrible husband,...

We are closing in on the Kevin Can F**k Himself endgame.
AMC shared an exclusive first look at Kevin Can F**k Himself Season 2 Episode 6, which finds Allison (Annie Murphy) a bit worse for wear.
The clip picks up with her arriving at Patty's (Mary Hollis Inboden) in the aftermath of a car accident.
Patty is immediately blindsided to learn that Allison rushed away from the scene of the accident because she was worried about people asking questions.
Allison has made some strange decisions throughout the series, but now that she's got an injured shoulder, she may start to think these things through.
Patty is always on hand to help Allison. The clip ends before we see Patty helping her friend, but we can assume their bond will continue to form.

Allison is looking for a gift on Kevin Can F**k Himself Season 2 Episode 4.
AMC shared an exclusive first look at the upcoming episode with TV Fanatic.
We pick up with Allison (Annie Murphy) in the car with Tammy (Candice Coke) as they drive into a sketchy alley.
Tammy is unsure about what's about to go down but is surprised when Allison says she wants to purchase menthol cigarettes for Patty (Mary Hollis Inboden).
The reason?
Patty has been smoking regular cigarettes while sucking on mints.
"You know a guy?" Tammy asks.
"I worked at a liquor store," Allison shoots back.
"Ah, yes, the underworld," Tammy responds.
"So, you just, uh, roll down the window, do the exchange. Don't get out of the car," says Allison.
"You do know I'm a police officer, right?" Tammy wonders.
"They're just menthol cigarettes, and I think cops get a discount, so thank you,...

Editor’s Note: Spoilers for the series finale are included.
The Annie Murphy-starring AMC series “Kevin Can F**k Himself” hinges on an interesting gimmick: What if a woman was the wife of a sitcom character, but in her moments alone she was just an average woman desperate to leave a dying, toxic marriage? Season 1 focused heavily on this conceit, with Allison McRoberts (Murphy) desperate to kill her bumbling, one-note sitcom stereotype husband Kevin (Eric Petersen) in order to free herself. But with the Season 1 finale, and the reveal that AMC was canceling the show after Season 2, a shift was felt.
Season 2 of “Kevin” understands, like its main character, there needs to be honesty. Where Allison spent last season contemplating killing herself, now she’s actively planning to kill herself (or at least faking it to start somewhere new). Compared to last season, this season’s Allison doesn’t want...

It's time for Annie Murphy to finish the job. The trailer for the second and final season of Kevin Can F**k Himself, premiering August 22 on AMC, features Allison (Murphy) pivoting to a new plan after she tried—and failed!—to kill husband Kevin (Eric Petersen) in season one. Allison realizes that if she really wants to leave Kevin in the dust, she's going to have to get creative. So, Allison again entrusts the help of neighbor Patty (Mary Hollis Inboden), who urges Allison, "Please don't say or do anything stupid." That's when we see Allison Googling the words "fake your own death" at a public library. We'd say that...

“Central Park,” the hit animated musical comedy series from Apple TV+, will return for its third season on Friday, September 9. Original cast member Kristen Bell is returning to star in Season 3 in the new role of Abby, Paige’s little sister.
In Season 1, Bell voiced Owen (Leslie Odom Jr.) and Paige’s (Kathryn Hahn) mixed raced daughter Molly, but she exited the series in 2020 because she believed it unjust for her to voice a biracial character.
“Casting a mixed race character w/a white actress undermines the specificity of the mixed race & Black American experience,” Bell’s statement read at the time.
From creator, writer and executive producer Loren Bouchard, Josh Gad and Nora Smith, the 13-episode third season of “Central Park” will premiere globally on Apple TV+ with three episodes. It will be followed by one episode weekly every Friday through November 18.

AMC and AMC+ are unveiling the trailer for Kevin Can F**k Himself‘s final season as Allison (Annie Murphy) sets out to finish what she started in the first look. Set to return Monday, August 22 with Season 2, Kevin Can F**k Himself sees Allison’s story pick up where it left off after the failed attempt to kill her self-centered and “lovable” cable-guy husband Kevin (Eric Petersen). Returning to Worcester, Massachusetts, the series pulls back the curtain on the secret life of a type of woman we grew up believing we knew: The prototypical sitcom wife. (Credit: AMC) Life isn’t as carefree and magical underneath the veneer as Allison teamed up with her neighbor Patty (Mary Hollis Inboden) to take drastic measures in order to escape her confines and take control of her life. The only catch is that their initial plan involved killing Kevin, but when that didn’t work out,...

This is a pretty meta casting — Kevin Can Wait alum Erinn Hayes is set to guest star on the upcoming second and final season of AMC’s Kevin Can F**k Himself. Hayes will appear in an as-yet undisclosed role alongside series stars Annie Murphy, Mary Hollis Inboden, Eric Petersen and Alex Bonifer.
Hayes played James’ wife Donna on the first season of Kevin James’ CBS comedy series Kevin Can Wait. She was let go at the end of the season and replaced by James’ former King of Queens co-star Leah Remini. Hayes’ exit was met with backlash by fans, there was a Season 2 ratings decline for Kevin Can Wait, which was eventually canceled.

Well, this sounds like perfect casting. Erinn Hayes, who played Kevin James’ wife, Donna, on the CBS comedy Kevin Can Wait, is set to guest star in Season 2 of the AMC series Kevin Can F**k Himself. Character details will be revealed at a later date, so we’ll have to wait to see what we find out before we see her onscreen. However, you can get a first look at her on set, in a bowling shirt, in the photos above and below. Robert Clark/Stalwart Productions/AMC Kevin Can F**k Himself follows Allison McRoberts (Annie Murphy), a prototypical sitcom wife who finally wakes up and revolts against her life. Hayes will be appearing alongside series stars Murphy, Mary Hollis Inboden, Eric Petersen, and Alex Bonifer in Season 2. When Kevin Can F**k Himself was first announced, it was impossible to not think about Kevin Can Wait, considering it had recently been canceled.

Annie Murphy has signed with CAA for representation, Variety has learned exclusively.
Murphy was previously represented by Gersh. She continues to be repped by Molly Mandel and Peter Kousakis at Mosaic, as well as Pam Winter at Gga.
Murphy is best known for her critically-acclaimed role on the Pop TV-CBC series “Schitt’s Creek.” She starred in all six seasons of the show in the role of Alexis Rose, the pampered socialite daughter of Johnny and Moira Rose. Annie Murphy starrer Kevin Can F**k Himself will be back for a second season. AMC has renewed the series from creator Valerie Armstrong and executive producers Rashida Jones and Will McCormack (Claws). The eight-episode second season is slated to premiere on AMC+ and AMC next year.
The renewal follows a strong first season. It was the most watched series on AMC+ and top acquisition driver for the premium streaming bundle across all major distribution platforms. Kevin was the biggest new series launch in the history of the service and was particularly popular with young, upscale and female-skewing viewers. The series also garnered positive reviews and strong social activity and buzz.
Said Dan McDermott, president of original programming for AMC Networks and AMC Studios: “It’s Kevin’s world, Allison’s just living in it. Or is she? This series was built on a novel and unique concept, and...

“Kevin Can F**k Himself” has been renewed for Season 2 at AMC. The second season will consist of eight episodes and will debut on AMC and AMC Plus in 2022.
The dark comedy series stars “Schitt’s Creek” alum Annie Murphy as Allison McRoberts, a woman we all grew up believing we knew: the prototypical Sitcom Wife. She’s beautiful and can take a joke (though she’s usually the butt of them). And she’s married to a guy who must’ve won some sort of marriage lottery, because she looks the way she does and he’s… funny. The series alternates between traditional sitcom multi-cam footage but then switches up to single-cam as Allison struggles to break out of her unhappy existence.

The Annie Murphy-led “Kevin Can F**k Himself” has been renewed for a second season at AMC, the cable channel said Friday.
Season 1 of the part multi-cam, part single-cam series followed the story of Allison McRoberts (Murphy), a woman we all grew up believing we knew: the prototypical Sitcom Wife, per AMC’s description. She’s beautiful and can take a joke (though she’s usually the butt of them). And she’s married to a guy who must’ve won some sort of marriage lottery, because she looks the way she does and he’s… funny. The series broke television convention via volleying camera setups and allowed the audience to see what happened when the cameras followed Allison out of her husband’s domain and as she finally wakes up to — and revolts against — the injustices in her life.
The second season of the genre-bending drama, which is filmed in and around Boston,...

(Warning: This post contains spoilers for Sunday’s Season 1 finale of “Kevin Can F**k Himself.”)
Welp, the first season of “Kevin Can F**k Himself” didn’t end with Kevin McRoberts (Eric Petersen) getting whacked by his wife, Allison (Annie Murphy), and neighbor Patty O’Connor’s (Mary Hollis Inboden) — but it did conclude with the death of the AMC drama’s sitcom world.
At least for Kevin’s best friend and Patty’s brother, Neil (Alex Bonifer), who made the laughter stop by strangling Allison upon learning of her failed attempt to murder Kevin, causing Patty to hit him over the head with a bottle. When Patty smashed that glass to save Allison, she broke through the multi-cam world that Kevin, Neil and Kevin’s father, Pete (Brian Howe), have lived in throughout the entire season.

On Sunday, creator Valerie Armstrong was joined by Annie Murphy and Mary Hollis Inboden for a virtual Atx panel to talk about their new dark comedy series on AMC, Kevin Can F**k Himself.
For those wondering at home, Armstrong insisted you say the profanity to properly pronounce the show’s title.
“I just needed a title that made me laugh and Kevin Can F**k Himself always did,” Armstrong said.
Kevin Can F*** Himself probes the secret life of a type of woman we all grew up believing we knew: the sitcom wife (Annie Murphy). It looks to break television convention and ask what the world looks like through her eyes. Alternating between single-camera realism and multi-camera comedy, the formats will inform one another as we imagine what happens when the sitcom wife escapes her confines and takes the lead in her own life.

(Warning: This post contains spoilers for the first two episodes of AMC’s “Kevin Can F**k Himself.”)
The first two episodes of AMC’s genre-bending comedy “Kevin Can F**k Himself” premiered Sunday, dropping viewers into the world of Allison McRoberts (“Schitt’s Creek” alum Annie Murphy), a Massachusetts wife who spends half her life trapped in a sitcom world where her husband Kevin (Eric Petersen) is not just the king of queens, but everything, and the other half in a dingy, dark tale of despair and dreams gone by.
But while Allison slips back and forth between the two vastly different universes, Kevin is only ever seen in the multi-cam portion of the show. There is a very specific reason for this decision, which was made by “Kevin Can F**k Himself” creator Valerie Armstrong. And it’s not just about Allison and Kevin.

“Kevin Can F Himself” is a clear-cut, incontestable, black-comic evisceration of toxic sitcoms. That much is clear within the first hour, if not the first 10 minutes. But the new show from creator Valerie Armstrong might also be something more — something harder and gnarlier that hasn’t fully revealed itself, yet is creeping around the edges of the first four episodes, waiting to assume the spotlight.
Starring recent Emmy-winner Annie Murphy (“Schitt’s Creek”) as Allison McRoberts, a liquor store clerk stuck in a rough marriage that looks uglier every second, “Kevin Can F Himself” wastes no time justifying its title. Kevin (Eric Petersen) is introduced playing beer pong in the living room, red cups placed perilously above a soon-to-be-stained rug. His neighbor Neil (Alex Bonifer) is his doomed opponent, while Kevin’s father, Pete (Brian Howe), and Neil’s roommate and sister, Patty (Mary Hollis Inboden), serve as wisecracking spectators. Kevin Can F**k Himself is a brand new AMC drama starring Annie Murphy as Allison McRoberts, Eric Petersen as Kevin McRoberts, and Mary Hollis Inboden as Patty.
The series focuses on Allison, who breaks television convention escaping her confines to take the lead of her own life.
TV Fanatic had the chance to chat with the cast and crew ahead of the series premiere, and my first question was about how creator Valerie Armstrong got the idea for the show.
"It was the summer of 2017, and I was pretty angry," she shared with TV Fanatic.
"I was angry a lot and often and in some ways, it was very new, and in some ways, it felt like it had always been sort of deep inside of me."

Four years ago, CBS decided to “retool” its struggling Kevin James-led sitcom “Kevin Can Wait” for its upcoming second season. Lead actress Erinn Hayes, who played Kevin’s wife, would be written off the show and replaced by Leah Remini, officially reuniting the “King of Queens” duo on a weekly basis. The question then became one of what the series would do to write Donna off. Divorce? A long work retreat? Always doing something else, just off screen? Come “Kevin Can Wait’s” second season premiere, the series went with perhaps the worst possible creative choice: It killed her off, with barely a line of dialogue about it, then moved on to some forgettable punchline. If there was any doubt that this type of “Sitcom Wife” was considered expendable and essentially a prop, this moment settled things.
“Kevin Can Wait” was canceled after its second season.

At some point, you’ve probably made fun of one of those cheesy sitcoms about an oafish man with a beautiful, impossibly patient wife. That’s because those kinds of sitcoms have been around for our entire lives, going back practically to the start of television itself. Some of these shows have been great (The Honeymooners), some have been fine (Still Standing), and some have been According to Jim. They are, like cop shows, one of TV’s most renewable resources, enduring perhaps because viewers see more of themselves than...

“I had the idea of a sitcom wife leaving her brightly-lit, laugh track living room with her funny husband and walking through a swinging door to the kitchen,” “Kevin Can F Himself” creator Valerie Armstrong told IndieWire. As the character crosses into the kitchen the audience sees that her once flawless makeup is now caked, her kitchen covered in water stains. Elements that, in a sitcom, are taboo.
For Armstrong, much of the inspiration for the AMC series starring Annie Murphy came in the midst of a rage felt by women for decades. “I was listening to this podcast; it was June of 2017,” she said. “Two women comedians [were] talking about pilot season and how every year they go out for sitcoms and every year they’re told, ‘We need a really funny woman.’ Then they get the sides and it’s all lines like ‘What do you mean?'”

The morning after the 2020 Emmy Awards, Annie Murphy woke up with a nasty hangover. She had just won Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her role as Alexis Rose on Schitt’s Creek, but she didn’t have time to let it soak in. “I dragged my corpse onto an airplane,” she remembers. “It was pretty nuts.”

The premise for Valerie Armstrong’s first series creation came to her in a simple, distinct sequence. A woman walks out of the living room of a traditional sitcom set and into the kitchen, where the studio lighting gives way to regular bulbs and she can drop her forced smile. Then, “she’d look straight at the camera and say, ‘I fucking hate my husband,'” Armstrong says.
Four years later, that inspiration grew into “Kevin Can F**k Himself,” which, in the eight-episode first season follows Allison (Emmy winner Annie Murphy), a Worcester, Mass., woman who slowly has an awakening about how destructive and manipulative her husband is. The sitcom space is Kevin’s space to say and do horrible things and get laughs, but the story follows Allison out of that space into a single-camera structure where she, and the audience by extension, can think a little harder about the behavior sitcom husbands,...

We all know the stereotype of the long-suffering sitcom wife, right? She’s way too hot for her proudly immature husband, and she quietly stays in the background while he hogs the spotlight?
Well, AMC’s new dramedy Kevin Can F**k Himself — premiering Sunday, June 20 at 9/8c — aims to blow up that stereotype, promising a meta satire that demolishes those creaky old TV clichés. (The title even refers to a particularly infamous example of the genre: the Kevin James-Erinn Hayes CBS sitcom Kevin Can Wait.) This show opens, like countless others you might’ve seen before, on a brightly lit living room set as a loud group of friends playfully argues amongst itself to uproarious laughter. Kevin (Eric Petersen) is the sloppy husband who loves sports and getting intro trouble; his wife Allison (Annie Murphy) is a hot stick in the mud who shrugs off his harebrained schemes with a tight smile. His dumb best friend Neil (Alex Bonifer) eggs him on while his dad Pete (Brian Howe) gives him grief; wash, rinse, repeat.
The jokes aren’t necessarily funny so much as they are expected. The Allison character might typically have some sharper comebacks for her dolt of a spouse, but there’s otherwise an easy familiarity in the well-worn rhythms of their exhausting banter, the canned laugh reliably punctuating every other line whether it deserves the reaction or not. And as far as multi-cam sitcoms go,...

Annie Murphy’s meta-comedy Kevin Can F**k Himself will land at AMC and AMC+ this summer.
Set to debut on Sunday, June 13 on AMC+ and Sunday, June 20 at 9 p.m. Et/Pt on AMC, Kevin Can F**k Himself stars Annie Murphy, the Emmy-winning Schitt’s Creek actress, as Allison McRoberts, the prototypical Sitcom Wife. But what happens when we follow Allison out of her husband’s domain? When she finally wakes up to—and revolts against—the injustices in her life? Kevin Can F**K Himself breaks television convention and blends multi-camera comedy with single-camera realism to make us ask: “who and what have we been laughing at all of these years?”
Created by Valerie Amrstrong, Kevin Can F**k Himself also features Mary Hollis Inboden, Eric Petersen, Alex Bonifer, Brian Howe and Raymond Lee.

“I wrote it before #MeToo,” Valerie Armstrong said about her upcoming glass-ceiling breaking, genre-defying AMC comedy series Kevin Can F**k Himself today at TCA.
“I wrote it three and half years ago, and I’ve been waiting for it to get less relevant,” says the series creator, “I think stories about women being overlooked are sadly going to be relevant for a while, and it’s going to connect deeply with people for a long time.”
The series, which debuts this summer on AMC and AMC+, stars Schitt’s Creek Supporting Comedy Actress Emmy winner Annie Murphy as a sitcom wife, who in between being the center of her husband’s jokes, loses it, and looks to break from the humdrum of her life; the series alternating her reality between single and multi-camera.
