MasterChef Australia winner Adam Liaw has revealed that he has landed his own television show. The lawyer-turned-cook, who won the reality television series in 2010, has started filming the first season of Destination Flavour, a travel and food show on Sbs that will follow him as he visits various restaurants, growers and providores around the country. Liaw told The Daily Telegraph that he has been negotiating with various TV networks for the past two years and considered several offers before signing a contract with Sbs. "There were a lot of shows that were considered, but mostly they were just not right for me," he admitted. "It mostly had to do with subject matter that (more)...

Australian MasterChef winner Adam Liaw has revealed that he wouldn't have minded if he hadn't taken part in the show. The 33-year-old former lawyer, who relocated from Tokyo to Sydney to enter the amateur cooking competition last year, said that he was happy with his life before MasterChef. Liaw told Sunday magazine: "That's one thing [other winners] Julie [Goodwin], Kate [Bracks] and I all have in common. None of us hated our old life. "There's the cliché, 'I hate my life and I need to do something new', so you go on MasterChef, but we were happy with our lives. I wouldn't look at going back to my legal career as failing in any way." He said that spending a year away from his girlfriend Asami "wasn't easy", but that the (more)...

Kate Bracks has revealed that she doesn't want to be a chef. The 36-year-old mother from Orange in New South Wales, who was recently crowned Australia's MasterChef 2011, said that all she wants to do is run a sleepy B&B in her hometown because the idea of writing a cookbook terrifies her. Bracks told Woman's Day magazine: "I have an underlying dream of owning a bed-and-breakfast. I look at what [past winners] Adam Liaw and Julie Goodwin have done before me and I know plans change, so I'm open to whatever is coming, but still, deep down, is the desire to own a B&B. That's my gift, that's my skill and that's something I can make work with (more)...

The finale of Australian MasterChef has suffered a huge ratings drop compared to the past two seasons. According to the Herald Sun, only 2.568 million people tuned in to watch Kate Bracks go head-to-head with Michael Weldon and be crowned the winner of the cooking reality show last night. When Adam Liaw won last year's series there was an audience of 3.964 million viewers, while 3.74 million people watched Julie Goodwin defeat Poh Ling Yeow in 2009. Some fans have complained that Channel Ten decided to split the final episode into two parts, airing new reality TV show The Renovators for an hour in between. The first part of the MasterChef (more)...

Adam Liaw has revealed that going on MasterChef Australia was a risk. The former lawyer, who won last year's series of the reality cooking show, said that he dropped out of the competition three times before filming began because he was concerned about giving up his old career. Liaw told Epicure: "If I am going to be honest, I never really had taken a risk before in my life. It was the first out-on-a-limb thing I've ever done without a very considered safety net below me." Since winning the show, Liaw has written a cookbook called Two Asian Kitchens and is currently preparing his Sydney restaurant for an August opening. Talking about his (more)...
