International Film Festival Rotterdam (Iffr) unveils Signals line-up including a tribute to Korean director Jang Jin and a focus on artist Bruce McClure.
International Film Festival Rotterdam (Iffr) has confirmed the Signals programme for its upcoming 44th edition (Jan 21 - Feb 1).
The final programme includes a tribute to Korean director Jang Jin, a focus on artist and filmmaker Bruce McClure and Made in Taiwan, a special addition to the annual Regained section.
Jang Jin is one of South Korea’s most famous modern playwrights and theatre directors and his films have included gangster movies and rom-coms. Iffr will host a 13-strong retrospective of his films including the European premiere of We Are Brothers.
Iffr’s focus on Bruce McClure will see the avant-garde artist present nine different performances on consecutive evenings under the generic title Opposition Brings Reunion. His presentation at Witte de With, Courting Daylight in Saving Darkness, is described as “his most elaborate and expansive...

Romania was the big winner at Vilnius’ Kino Pavasaris (Cinema Spring) festival with Tudor Cristian Jurgiu’s feature debut Japanese Dog was named Best Film in the New Europe - New Names competition.
A Romanian producer present in Vilnius expressed the hope that this latest success - after winning veteran actor Viktor Rebengiuc a Gopo Award in Bucharest last month - would spur his national film fund Cnc on to showing more support for its filmmakers.
However, Romania’s filmmaking community is still waiting in vain for the Cnc to announce the results of its latest competition for funding of film projects.

International Short Film Festival Oberhausen has launched a new video-on-demand platform. This platform that features about 270 short films and film clips from the festival, is fully controlled by the filmmakers.
The films will be available in full for streaming or download, either for free or for a charge, depending on the filmmaker.
Currently available are films by Thomas Draschan, Jeanne Faust, Robert Frank, Ken Kobland, Jan Svankmajer, Jaan Toomik and Zelimir Zilnik. The platform also has an extensive short film database to which new films will be added every year from the festival’s market catalogues.
New films will be added from the current festival programmes as well as from the festival archive, beginning with the competition nominees at the 57th International Short Film Festival Oberhausen.
“Oberhausen Films Online” can be visited at www.kurzfilmtage.de/en/videotheque.
