Basketball Wives is currently in its 10th season, and the biggest critique is that not many cast members are married to NBA players on the show, despite its title. There have been discussions on social media regarding why actual wives have been hesitant to join, especially since the NBA boasts many long-term couples, one of which was Kobe and Vanessa Bryant. But Vanessa was reportedly asked to join on several occasions.
Vanessa and Kobe Bryant | Mathew Imaging/WireImage Vanessa Bryant was reportedly vetted for the show but turned it down
The show premiered in 2010 on VH1. The mothership franchise was based in Miami, with a spinoff airing the following year in LA. Both franchises have merged, with filming taking place primarily in LA.
When the show initially premiered, executive producer and cast member Shaunie O’Neal was midway through her divorce from Shaquille O’Neal, and the only other wife on the show was Jennifer Williams.

Basketball Wives Season 4: Sushi Restaurant Politics
The tides are always turning on Basketball Wives and on this week's episode, Kenya bore the brunt of a karmic tsunami. The aspiring singer had been labeled as the season's weirdo and flip flopper pretty much from the jump, but she's been able to escape the wrath of the circle due to everybody else having bigger fish to fry. There's been countless Jen/Evelyn dust-ups, Kesha's first on-camera reaming, and more awkward tension than you can shake your wig at, so Kenya's mouth (specifically her laughter) have been on the backburner.

Basketball Wives: Setting the Scene for Season 4
Believe it or not, it's been about six months since Evelyn, Jennifer, Shaunie, Tami, Royce, and Suzie have been on our television screens, throwing drinks, shade, and pretty much anything not nailed down. When last we left the Super (Messy) Six Basketball Wives, the circle had weakened following Jennifer's comments about Evelyn's fiancee but retained its power long enough to keep Royce on the outside looking in yet again. Meeka was looking more and more like a one season wonder thanks to her feud with Tami, while Suzie had become a full-fledged part of the circle, thereby squashing any prior season beef with Evelyn and company and distancing herself from Royce. Amidst all the typical reality drama, Shaunie promised that season four would focus less on rivalry and more on camaraderie and charity, but would she follow through?

The past three seasons of Miami-filmed "Basketball Wives" have been filled with physical drama. NBA players' former lovers, ex-wives, baby mamas, and fiancés -- rarely any actual wives -- have repeatedly come to blows on the Vh1 reality series. It's why audiences keep tuning in -- over 4 million viewers watched the season three reunion.
In one episode, Evelyn Lozada (current fiancé of Chad Ochocinco and former fiancé of Antonie Walker) and Royce Reed (baby mama of Dwight Howard) threw cocktails in each other's faces. In another, Tami Roman (ex-wife of Kenny Anderson) popped Meeka Claxton (wife of Speedy) in the face.
Season four of "Basketball Wives", which premieres February 2012, is likely to have even more violence and drama. One of two new cast members is Kenya Bell, a former Miss Michigan who was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon. Last May, she reportedly stabbed her then-husband Charlie Bell...

Basketball Wives Adds Two Cast Members for Season 4
It's been a busy off-season for VH1's Basketball Wives, filled with rumors about which ladies would be staying on for season four and just what direction the show would be taking. After dumping one season wonder Meeka Claxton and retaining the services of Royce Reed, Basketball Wives has filled out its roster by not one but two spots.
TMZ is reporting that the new wives we'll be seeing are Kenya Bell and Kesha Nichols, two women apparently on opposite sides of the reality personality spectrum. Bell, married to veteran point guard Charlie Bell, is said to be the villain, having already stirred things up with multiple cast members. Nichols, on the other hand, has been well-liked, so don't expect to see Richard Jefferson's former fiancee with her claws out anytime soon.

One week ago, the VH1 Blog reported that Royce Reed wouldn't be returning for the fourth season of Basketball Wives. Citing "artistic differences", it looked like the original cast member, whose screen time had greatly diminished in season three, would be following Meeka Claxton out the front door.

According to VH1 Blog, Reed has decided to return to the show for its upcoming season following several conversations and an outpouring of fan support.
