Derrick Welsbacher was born and raised outside of Detroit, Michigan. Growing up, he was always involved in the arts, whether it was fine art, drama, or music. At a young age, his artwork was honorably selected to be permanently displayed at DMC Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital. While in high school, he wrote, directed, produced, and acted in a modern day Greek tragedy set in an unforeseen post 9/11 world, which won runner-up to Best in Show in the DAFT Film Festival. Two other films he helped produce during his internship for an intermediate school district were awarded Best in Show in the same festival that year. He studied film and philosophy in college, where he actively participated in its International Film Festival and with the production of college television shows. After graduating, he volunteered his time and services to help create content for a municipal media department. Ever since then, Derrick has been actively pursuing a career in film.
