Country singer Walker Hayes was six years into his sobriety journey when he scored a surprise number-one hit, instantly giving him the biggest platform of his career, while also propping him up on the biggest stage to fall from.
That surprise hit was “Fancy Like,” Hayes’ humdinger of a single that touted the joys of a “Bourbon Street steak” at Applebee’s over a snappy beat and sing-along chorus.

Chris Brown is claiming the 2024 NBA Celebrity All-Star Game is singing one of his most famous songs: Say Goodbye.
The singer said he received an invitation to appear in the game, but a sponsor nixed those plans. Brown has constantly tried to make amends for a domestic abuse incident in 2009 against his then-girlfriend, Rihanna, and has generated other negative headlines from legal issues.
This time, Brown once again faced the consequences of past actions.
“I was asked by the NBA to play in the all star game this year! Only for them to call later and say they couldn’t do It because of their sponsors like Ruffles,” Brown wrote on his Instagram story, as reported on Complex Sports. “At this point I’m sick of people bothering me and I’m tired of living in the f—ing past. “On the Boat Again” borrows the chorus melody of Nelson’s 1980 touring anthem “On the Road Again,” changing the lyrics to summon that most cherished of Southern weekend outings: boat day. “On the boat again/I just...

CMT’s Artists of the Year special honored relative upstarts like Cody Johnson, Carly Pearce, and Lainey Wilson earlier this week in Nashville, but it was Alan Jackson, the show’s Artist of a Lifetime recipient, who showed them all how it was done.
Jackson, a Country Music Hall of Fame member, closed out the evening with a spirited performance of his Southern party anthem “Chattahoochee.” Introduced by Chris Stapleton and punctuated by Jackson’s signature vocal tics and sprightly fiddle, the rendition had his fellow honorees on their feet.

The lineup of five honorees for CMT’s Artists of the Year special has been set, with Walker Hayes, Carly Pearce and Cody Johnson being celebrated on the annual show for the first time, joining previous honorees Luke Combs and Kane Brown.
Filmed, as always, at Nashville’s Schermerhorn Symphony Center, the 90-minute “CMT Artists of the Year” will air on CMT Oct. 14 at 9 p.m. Et/Pt after being taped in the week.
The non-competitive show is a more intimate complement to the larger-scale, fan-voted CMT Awards, with honorees being selected by the network from among the artists deemed to have made the most collective impact during the preceding year.
The special is typically filled with guest artists for salutes and collaborations; those are yet to be announced.

Arguably the biggest prizes in country music, the Country Music Association Awards (CMAs) seek to honor the best in the industry. The award show features categories like Album of the Year, New Artist of the Year, Female and Male Artist of the Year, and the coveted Entertainer of the Year award. Let’s take a look at a few names that could pop up in the nominations list this year.
There are a couple of favorites who will get nominations without a doubt. Maren Morris’s “Humble Quest” is one of her best pieces of work and includes the hit “Circles Around This Town,” which could get into Song of the Year. There’s also Miranda Lambert, who will be in contention for her new album “Palomino” and the hit single “If I Was a Cowboy.” Similarly, Jason Aldean has found success with his album “Macon, Georgia,” led by his already-cma-winning duet with Carrie Underwood,...

Here’s an awards trajectory you don’t see too often, at least in country music: Lainey Wilson has never even been nominated for the CMA Awards before, but as of Wednesday morning, she’s officially the leading nominee for 2022.
Wilson came out ahead with six nominations when the Country Music Association announced the finalists Wednesday morning for its 56th annual awards show. Racking up a four-pack of nods were Cody Johnson and writer-producer Josh Osbourne. Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood, Luke Combs, Hardy and Midland all came up as triple-nominees.

2023 Grammys preview: Crowd of country contenders from newcomer Zach Bryan to legendary Dolly Parton
The country field at the Grammys is often one of the most interesting. Historically, Grammy voters have shown more sophisticated taste for their country stars, rewarding some lesser-known songs over huge crossover hits. Artists like Chris Stapleton, Kacey Musgraves, and Brandi Carlile have been among the Grammys favorites in country music. This year, however, a batch of returning champs plus a couple of potential first-timers are in the mix for their spot in Grammy history.
The biggest story in country music this year is the success of newcomer Zach Bryan. His debut album, “American Heartbreak,” debuted at number-five on the Billboard 200, earning the biggest streaming week for a country album in 2022 at the time. His rock-inspired, raw sound seems to have connected with audiences, as his top-40 Hot 100 song “Something in the Orange” is a hit on the Billboard country and rock charts. As such, expect him to be all over the nominations.

When it came time for Joshua Hedley to begin work on his second album, the polished Nineties country homage Neon Blue, the neo-traditionalist had only one guiding principle: make a record to be played on a pontoon boat.
“After these last couple years we’ve had, I felt like I didn’t want to hang my sad-sack, typical brand on people,” Hedley says. ‘I wanted to make a record that people could party to.”

The 2022 CMT Music Awards were handed out on Monday night, April 11, at 8:00pm Eastern on CBS. These awards honor the best in country music videos, but unlike the Academy of Country Music and Country Music Association Awards, which are voted on by industry peers, these awards are decided by fans. So who were the big winners? Scroll down for the complete list.
Kane Brown co-hosted the event with Kelsea Ballerini and Anthony Mackie, and he also led with four nominations including Video of the Year for “One Mississippi.” That category started with 12 nominees when they were initially announced. Fan votes then narrowed that down to the top six, and the day of the show we learned the final three: Brown’s “One Mississippi,” Jason Aldean and Carrie Underwood‘s “If I Didn’t Love You,” and Cody Johnson‘s “Til You Can’t.”
Johnson and breakthrough artist Breland followed with three nominations apiece.

And then there were three. The CMT Music Awards, the fan-voted prizes for country music videos, started with 12 nominees for Video of the Year, then cut that down to six, and have finally whittled it down to the top three based on the votes of country listeners. Scroll down for our predictions in six categories being handed out live during a ceremony hosted by Kelsea Ballerini, Kane Brown, and Anthony Mackie tonight at 8:00pm Eastern on CBS. Our projected winners are highlighted in gold.
Our official odds are based on the combined predictions of Gold Derby users who have placed their bets here in our predictions center. And based on those predictions Jason Aldean and Carrie Underwood are the ones to beat. Their duet “If I Didn’t Love You” is the front-runner to win both of its categories: Video of the Year and Collaborative Video of the Year.

A positive Covid test for country star Kelsea Ballerini has led to a change in plans for tonight’s CMT Music Awards, being broadcast on CBS. The singer will remain as co-host, but participate remotely. Actor Anthony Mackie remains on the hosting duties he was to perform alongside her, but now will be joined at the live ceremony by fill-in host Kane Brown.
In a statement, a CMT rep said said of Ballerini, “Fortunately, she is asymptomatic and remains excited to co-host the show (remotely). Kelsea’s good friend Kane Brown — who co-hosted with her last year — has graciously agreed to step in alongside Anthony Mackie. The three of them have lots of surprises up their sleeves and fans can look forward to an epic show.”
The three-hour show will take up all three hours of CBS’ prime time tonight starting live at 8 p.m. Et, tape-delayed for the west coast at 5 p.

This year, the annual event will move to a new television network and a new location, and air in a completely different time of year. There will even be a new co-host to join one returning from the previous year. But if past CMT Music Awards are any indication,...
