Theatre Uncut's visionary series of political plays appeal as much for the ideas as the drama. And Strangers on a Train runs out of steam
What began as a hand grenade has ended up as a cluster bomb. Three years ago Hannah Price conceived the idea of Theatre Uncut, a political new writing company and different version of protest theatre. It ingeniously brings new technology to bear on traditional agitprop, combining live performance and instantaneous multiplication.
The scheme, in which Price was joined as artistic director by Emma Callender, was to commission short plays that reacted to current politics and would be free for a month for anyone to download and perform anywhere. Principal photography on supernatural thriller Foreshadow has kicked off today in Perth. Starring Justin Burford (Rock of Ages) and Myles Pollard (Drift, The Turning) Foreshadow follows eternal bachelor Jesse Milton (Burford) whose too-good-to-be-true life is turned on its head when his latest girlfriend is discovered dead. Convinced she was murdered, Jesse sets out to find the killer himself, and comes up against demonic forces in the process. It is Burford.s first feature film role, though the pop star.s acting talents have been recognised in his turn in Rock of Ages, for which he gained five-star reviews. A supernatural thriller starring Justin Burford and Myles Pollard will be shot in Western Australia next year. Produced by Buzz Productions, in partnership with Movierockets Entertainment, Foreshadow was written by Movierockets. CEO Kris Lippert and will be directed by Carmelo Musca. (The Best in Australia, Zombie Brigade.) Foreshadow follows the story of Jesse Milton (Burford), a surfer enjoying the high life until he finds his latest girlfriend dead. When police close their investigation, Jesse decides to seek out the murderer himself - a process which sees him come face to face with demonic powers. It is Burford.s debut feature film, though the pop-star has already been recognised for his acting talents after earning five-star reviews for his lead role in the musical Rock of Ages. He was also nominated for a Helpmann Award and took out the Broadway Australia Award for Best Lead Actor in a Musical.
