Nominations for “The 76th Annual Writers Guild Awards” were announced on Wednesday, with “Days of our Lives” and “General Hospital” competing in the Daytime Drama category. Other shows receiving nominations in various categories include “The Crown,” “Abbott Elementary,” “The Last of Us” and “Succession.” Among films, “Barbie,” “Oppenheimer” and “Killers of the Flower Moon” are looking to take home their respective trophies.
This year, “Days of our Lives” is competing against “General Hospital” after receiving a de facto win in 2023 due to no other show being nominated, and marking the show’s third consecutive win. Ron Carlivati leads the show’s writing team.
At “General Hospital,” outgoing writers Dan O’Connor and Chris Van Etten are receiving their final nominations as the show’s head writers. The two were let go in January after a shakeup behind the scenes.

The next episode of Ambitions airs tonight at 10 p.m. Et/Pt on Own.
In "Giving Up," the Barnes have a big surprise for the Carlisles, forcing Stephanie and Evan to fight fire with fire. Meanwhile, Amara receives backlash at work for her prior indiscretions.
We Love Soaps recently spoke with Ambitions star Kendrick Cross about his role as good guy attorney Titus Hughes. We shared some laughs about our desire to see Titus take down Damian Collins (Alexander Mulzac) with a good right hook. Cross said he had moments of wanting the same thing.
"Let me hit him!" Cross once joked to Ambitions creator Jamey Giddens.
Could it happen tonight? We're not sure but Cross teased that it's a can't miss episode.
"It's a really big episode for Titus," he says. "You will see a turning point. Damian's tactics are working and we may see Titus get fed up with it.

Keep your enemies close may be good strategy but it can be difficult to pull off when they burn down your house, or in the case of Queen Sugar Season 4 Episode 8, your mill.
Charley Bordelon has gotten knocked down more times than I can recall, but to her credit, she never fails to get back up.
This time, someone set the Queen Sugar mill on fire, putting it out of business for the foreseeable future.
Although no one was willing to take direct credit for the arson, there was no shortage of possible suspects, with Francis Boudreaux at the top of that list.
Queen Sugar Season 4 Episode 7 Review: Of Several Centuries
The old woman's perfect makeup and polite but phony smile have always barely hidden her disdain for Charley, but this time, the truth came spewing forward.

Congrats to Jamey Giddens, who’s predicted the Daytime Emmys with Gold Derby in the past. The founder of soap-opera site DaytimeConfidential now has his own soap that recently debuted on the Oprah Winfrey Network (Own) – “Ambitions,” which he created with producer Will Packer, and let’s all hope it sweeps the next Primetime Emmy derby.
Given Jamey’s impressive expertise tracking all soaps as a journo, his “Ambitions” deserves to snatch awards from all bitchy TV rivals because it’s the soapiest ever. Notes TVLine‘s Andy Swift: “One thing I appreciate about ‘Ambitions’ is that it isn’t afraid to go from zero to completely insane in the blink of an eye.”
Soaps.com calls the program “over the top yet entertaining, filled with juicy secrets lies, affairs and beautiful people. You know, everything you want in a soap opera.”

The term "whiplash" comes to mind when thinking about Ambitions Season 1 Episode 3.
Everyone was out for themselves on "Welcome to Birmingham," an hour that solidified Ambitions as the sudsiest drama of the summer.
We'll start with Evan and Bella because they're probably the only engaging couple right about now.
Bella is slowly starting to push the boundaries to get what she wants. In her own way, she thinks she's doing what she has to to get her business off the ground.
She's at the stage in which she doesn't give a crap about what her secret relationship with Evan will do to Stephanie.
It makes sense. People can only live a lie for so long.

At one point, I don't doubt the very thought of Stephanie being out for her blood scared the living daylights out of her, but not anymore.

Ambitions star Robin Givens and creator/producer Jamey Giddens.Writer and producer Jamey Giddens made a name for himself covering soap operas for Daytime Confidential for more than a decade. His hilarious and insightful podcast commentary, and fascinating interviews, set him apart in the crowded blogosphere, not to mention the fact that he broke more news than every other soap opera journalist combined. What really made it work was his genuine love for the soaps as a lifelong viewer, combined with a deep understanding of how to tell stories as a talented writer. It was no surprise when he was asked to co-write the first season of Victoria Rowell's comedy series The Rich and the Ruthless, and earned an Indie Series Award nomination for his work. It was only a matter time before an even bigger break came his way, and it happened last year when prolific hit-maker Will Packer...

We are only one day from the premiere the most anticipated new series of the summer, the Jamey Giddens-penned Ambitions. Brely Evans stars as Rondell Lancaster, the sister of Atlanta Mayor Evan Lancaster (Brian J. White) and manager of the Thelma's Place restaurant. As the new face of an anti-gentrification campaign, she never thought would become a crusader for the people, but it's a badge she wears with pride – and nobody is removing it.
Check out what Evans had to say when We Love Soaps traveled to the set in Atlanta back in April.
We Love Soaps: What was your first reaction when you read the script for Ambitions?
Brely Evans: When I read the audition sides I thought to myself, “I know her,” because she’s me. She’s outspoken and not afraid to have an opinion. She really doesn’t give a f*** if someone has something opposing to say.

Ambitions premieres Tuesday, June 18 at 10 p.m. Et on Own. Kendrick Cross stars as Titus Hughes, a passionate attorney and dedicated husband to Amara (Essence Atkins). Titus has accepted the challenge of being in-house counsel for a big pharma company run by Hunter Purifoy (Brian Bosworth) to fight a class action suit brought by the powerful Carlisle family.
Cross explained how he eased into the role when We Love Soaps visited the Ambitions set in April.
"Initially, when I first got the audition all they gave me was the scene," he said. "I didn’t know the backstory or anything else. I developed that character. When I got on set, I had eleven different people telling me 'no, he's this" or “no, he’s that.' I was a little confused for the first two episodes."
Cross decided to trust his instincts on the character.

Ambitions is the new Own series that will satisfy your longing for all the escapist fun, debauchery, and bitchery you want from your primetime soaps.
Created by Jamey Giddens (The Rich and the Ruthless) and backed by Will Packer Productions, Ambitions focuses on four families from distinct backgrounds in Atlanta and features a richly diverse cast that is still too rare on television.
During a recent set visit, we spoke with Brely Evans and Erica Page who both play bold, outspoken women on Ambitions who know what they want and aren't afraid to fight for it.
Evans stars as Rondell Lancaster, the sister of Atlanta Mayor Evan Lancaster (Brian White) and manager of the Thelma’s Place restaurant. As the new face of an anti-gentrification campaign, she never thought she’d become a crusader for the people, but it’s a badge she wears with pride – and nobody is removing it.

Behold, summer! Now that spring (and the accompanying closing of this year’s Emmys eligibility) is in the rearview mirror, the warmer months bring plenty of new programming. Some are literary adaptations, others are American versions of global series, and one is based on a show that doesn’t actually exist at all. June is a treasure trove.
