It doesn’t take a rock star to realize that Bill and Ted are not the heroes we need now — but these musically inclined time-hopping doofuses who inspired a futuristic utopia in a pair of cult hits 30 years ago weren’t the heroes we needed then, either. “Bill & Ted Face the Music,” a cheerful new entry that follows the wide-eyed and empty-headed buddies into middle age, understands that well.
The delight of this long-gestating follow-up involves the ironic disconnect at the core of the franchise. Such blinkered stupidity couldn’t possibly save the universe, but there’s a fundamental joy to pretending otherwise. Resurrecting the fantasy of the earlier entries, “Bill & Ted Face the Music” doesn’t devolve into a pure nostalgia play. It’s just another “Bill & Ted” movie — kooky, surreal, and completely adherent to its own playbook. And that’s why, more or less, it works.

Exclusive: Netflix is going old-school, ordering six episodes of Historical Roasts, a half-hour comedy series from Comedy Central roast star Jeff Ross and Obb Pictures. The project stems from the popular live Los Angeles comedy club show that has been running since 2014. Obb (Kevin Hart’s Cold as Balls) optioned rights to the show and then secured the deal with Netflix which beat out multiple bidders. Production begins this fall and the show launches next year.
Each episode will bring together A-list comedians in period-appropriate garb and character to roast historical figures. No word on the roastees yet, but the live shows have featured everyone from Abraham Lincoln and Jimmy Hendrix to Michael Jackson and William Shakespeare.
“People always ask me who my dream roast would be — this concept allows me to finally roast them all. Plus, I’ll be learning a lot along the way,” said Ross, who anchors...

This is a photo that’s been seen of Jimmy Hendrix but every time I see it I’m reminded of just how vintage and cool it is. At the time of this photo it’s technically Private James Hendrix of the 101st Airborne, playing guitar at Fort Campbell Kentucky in 1962. There are a decent amount of people who still don’t know the full story of Jimi Hendrix’s time in the army or why he was discharged, so here it is: In 1961, Hendrix was given a choice between two years in jail or or joining the Army after a run in

Filmmaker Albert Maysles, whose pioneering documentary work chronicled some of rock music's most transformational moments, died Thursday. Maysles had battled pancreatic cancer and become ill about a month before his death, Erika Dilday, executive director of the Maysles Institute, told Newsweek. "He died at home surrounded by his family," she said. Maysles collaborated alongside his brother David on films that showcased the emergent talents of such icons as Janis Joplin, Jimmy Hendrix, the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. The Stones' blues-infused, sexually-charged sound was on display in Maysles' 1970 music film classic, Gimme Shelter. Before that film, Maysles also helmed 1964's What's Happening!

Mike Meyers could not have picked a better subject for his directorial debut. The quality of the documentary Supermensch is barely even one worth taking into consideration when you sit a camera in front of a guy who managed Jimmy Hendrix, Alice Cooper, Groucho Marx, Teddy Pendergrass, Emeril Lagasse and the list just doesn’t end. Shep Gordon, without question, is a man with a lot of stories. He was the man behind the curtain to which no one paid attention. He was the guy bringing the chicken to Alice Cooper concerts. He was the man who created the genre of celebrity chef.
Meyers loves Shep Gordon. And Meyers’ documentary couldn’t be less of a love parade. That’s really it’s only drawback. There’s somewhat of a lack of conflict in Gordon’s life. This is a man who did everything he wanted to do, and his stories are worth your time.

Imagining the year in which a sideman named Jimmy Hendrix turned into a star called Jimi, John Ridley's All Is By My Side is an oblique, offstage rock portrait, withholding many of the pleasures we expect from biopics in favor of a sometimes dreamy look at an inchoate artistic persona. One of the pleasures withheld is the sight of Hendrix playing "Hey Joe" or "Purple Haze," songs that marked his entry into the UK music scene. For that reason and others, the film isn't as commercial as one might expect for a project about one of the Sixties' most

Sid Bernstein the concert booker and promoter partially responsible for bringing The Beatles to the United States in the 1960s, died Wednesday (Aug. 21) in Manhattan. He was 95 at the time of his death.
Although best known for bringing the Beatles to Carnegie Hall and Shea Stadium, Bernstein was a presenter with a long history of work. He got his start booking acts in New York and the Catskills after World War II, eventually promoting concerts by singers like Judy Garland and Tony Bennett. Having heard about The Beatles -- and their hysterically enthusiastic fans -- in 1963, Bernstein was able to book the almost-unknown band into Carnegie Hall.
Two shows were scheduled for Feb. 12, 1964, just a few days after the band made its historic debut on "The Ed Sullivan Show." Both quickly sold out.
In October of that same year, Bernstein persuaded the management at Shea Stadium to hold a concert for more than 50,000 Beatles fans.

Misheard song lyrics are the stuff of legend, with Elton John's "Tiny Dancer" being a canonical example of what happens when inflection doesn't go as planned (no, it's not "hold me closer, Tony Danza"). Spotify tried to lend a touch of science to our collective inability to hear certain lines as musicians intended them, and conducted a poll to identify the most misquoted song lyrics of all time.
Coming in at No. 1 on the list is Manfred Mann's Earth Band, who's "Blinded By the Light" is often mistaken as including the line "wrapped up like a douche when you're rollin' in the night." The actual line? "Blinded by the light, revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night."
Take a look at the Spotify's Top 10 Misquoted Song Lyrics below and stream a playlist of the mistakenly catchy tracks. What lyrics do you struggle with the most?
1. Blinded by the light.

What happens in Vegas....? Billboard hosted it's annual Billboard Music Awards (TV) from the MGM Grand Garden Arena on Sunday night. Despite his best efforts, host Tracy Morgan appeared to get off to a rocky start and never quite seemed to recover. During the course of his brief (and only marginally funny) monolog, the comedian managed to mispronounce three artists' names and flubbed his date with the teleprompter. Aside from a quasi-entertaining dance off with pop star Psy, his hosting chops left a bit to be desired. No question Morgan is a good comic, but his skills seemed ill-suited for this particular gig. Bruno Mars kicked off the show with his newest single, a Motown-style tune called "Treasure." It was a crowd-pleasing "crimson" moment that set the stage for a host of performances by Billboard's most prevalent chart toppers of the year. Country fave Shania Twain presented the first award...

In with a whisper. Out with a bang. Thousands of Prince fans who attended the third and final show of his recent Chicago engagement were not quite sure what they were in for. After a not-so-regal start with Monday's show that was reportedly riddled with sound problems, technical issues, and timing turmoil, the word was not good. Tuesday's show, however, contained all of the elements one would expect from the veteran entertainer, who rebounded nicely for night two. When legions of fans poured into United Center for night three, many wondered if the positive momentum would continue. As it turns out, it did. And he started with a little Controversy. The song that is. The energy level was high and Prince was feeling it. "Hello, my name is Prince," he announced. Within minutes fans were on their feet as "His Purple Highness" delivered a memorable (and youthful sounding) medley of hits including "Let's Go Crazy,...

Following on from his excellent, critically acclaimed Battlestar Galactica reboot, Ron Moore has several adaptations of properties as TV series in development. He's working on a reboot of the 1960s TV series Wild, Wild West, and an adaptation of Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series of novels. And now, he's added A Knight's Tale to that list. Deadline reports that:
“The series is expected to stay close to the premise and the style of the movie – it is described as a medieval fantasy incorporating modern music and themes that follows the journey of a young man who starts out impersonating a knight of the realm and ends up becoming one.”
A Knight’s Tale is one of the best and most entertaining movies ever, with quotable dialogue, great performances, and catchy, deliberately anachronistic music. It features an underrated performance from the late Heath Ledger in the lead role, seven years before...
