Sony has announced today that the previously revealed WipEout Omega Collection, a remastered compilation that contains WipEout HD, Wipeout Fury and Wipeout 2048, is headed to PlayStation 4 on June 6 and will go on sale for $39.99. All tracks and ships included in the aforementioned titles will be present and accounted for in the Omega Collection, so says the announcement, marking the first time that everything has been brought together and housed in one place.
If that alone isn’t already enough to whet your appetite, be aware that every last ship and track you remember from the originals has been given upgraded textures to bring them in line with modern standards, with performance being upped across the board to 1080p resolution on PlayStation 4 and dynamic 4K on PS4 Pro. Regardless of which version of Sony’s console you own, each member of the collection runs at a targeted 60 Fps. Not limiting the polish to visuals,...

After a phenomenal 2016, it looks like The Chainsmokers are prepped to keep their winning streak going strong in the new year. The duo announced earlier in the week that they will be holding down an exclusive three year residency in Las Vegas, and now their smash hit “Closer” has been nominated for “Song Of The Year” at the upcoming iHeartRadio Music Awards.
The nomination is merely the latest in a laundry list of achievements that “Closer” already lays claim to, including generating more than a billion views on Vevo, dominating the charts throughout 2016 with twelve weeks on the Hot 100, and surpassing a record originally set by Swedish House Mafia.
“Closer” was easily one of the biggest songs released in 2016, and with the new nomination, The Chainsmokers are primed to continue their musical conquest in 2017. That’s not to say they don’t have their work cut out for them though,...

To say that The Chainsmokers have enjoyed a landmark year in 2016 would be an understatement. Their single “Closer” with Halsey was undeniably one of the biggest songs of the past 12 months, dominating the charts with a record twelve weeks at the top of the Hot 100, while the song’s lyric video and official music video have collectively generated more than a billion views. While “Closer” has finally been knocked down to the number three spot, the song has just cracked another record.
“Closer” has officially outperformed Swedish House Mafia‘s classic “Don’t You Worry Child.” The Chainsmokers’ biggest hit to date has spent seventeen weeks in the number one spot on Billboard’s Dance Mix/Show Airplay chart, beating out Shm’s sixteen week run with the aforementioned single. While speculation that a Swedish House Mafia reunion will take place next year continues to rage on, fans can at least take solace knowing that ex-shm member Steve Angello will be delivering fresh material in 2017. During his last residency show of the year for BBC 1, the producer announced that he’ll be delivering a new album next year.
Angello brought his last residency show of 2017 to an end by announcing that he’d be taking some time off from Radio 1 next year. He took the occasion to announce that an album is on the way, bringing the two hour mix to an end with his own song “Stay” featuring Saints of Valory, which is set to feature on the forthcoming record.
I’m going to be taking a break from Radio 1 next, as I’ve got a pretty busy 2017 planned. This is probably a good time to announce that there’s a new album coming.

The complainant maintains that the DJ was willfully criminal in his actions, stating that he was “deliberate and intentional, knowing that such behavior would damage the plaintiff.”
In total, the lawsuit claims Angello committed “fraud, broken business contract and crimes against property management,” while alleging that he attempted to cover up any wrong doing “by constantly repeating, and distorting information.”

At this point, the will-they-won’t-they drama surrounding the possibility of a Swedish House Mafia reunion tour in 2017 has reached a boiling point. Earlier in the summer, YouTube channel Proximity posted an image that seemed to tease a reunion for Shm, though this was later denied by Axwell /\ Ingrosso. When I first heard saw that JayKode and Lookas put out a “Leave The World Behind” remix, I assumed it was a disingenuous attempt to capitalize on Swedish House Mafia reunion fervor. It turns out that the two artists have been working on it since 2014, however – and more importantly, it bangs.
Deborah Cox’s anthemic vocal is pitched up in JayKode and Lookas’ version, which makes for a high-energy iteration of the future bass format. A main stage-friendly buildup detonates into a mesmerizing array of pad synths, capturing an entirely different energy than that of the source material.
The song certainly has Tiësto’s blessing, as he played it during his performance at this year’s edition of Edc Las Vegas back in June. And judging by the crowd’s response, he’s not in the minority, either.

Steve Angello made it known that he planned to present some pretty grand audiovisual concepts with his first post-Swedish House Mafia album, Wild Youth. After revealing a visceral music video for “The Ocean” last month, the Size Records founder has now premiered the official music video for “Tiger,” which occurs to us as being quite a bit more conceptually challenging.
The video for “Tiger” opens with a Swedish phrase which ominously translates to “the journey will be easier without the weight of the past.” Serene shots tell the fantastic story of a mythical order being ravaged by cloaked specters, and like the video for “The Ocean,” the cinematographers didn’t shy away from the portrayal of graphic violence.
The closing scenes of the video for Steve Angello‘s “Tiger” is the most cryptic from a storytelling perspective, which makes us wonder if additional videos will stitch together the missing plot points.

2016 is already shaping up to be quite the interesting year for electronic music, and by the looks of things, Steve Angello is getting a head start on playing a vital role in the movement’s transition. His first full-length album since the Swedish House Mafia split has arrived in the form of Wild Youth – and while we were thoroughly impressed enough with what he delivered for Chapter 1 of the effort, Chapter 2 ties it together with an additional layer of conceptual depth.
Angello was somewhat cryptic when he discussed with us his reasons for splitting Wild Youth into two chapters – nor did he provide any insight as to why the tracklist of Chapter 2 didn’t follow that of Chapter 1 chronologically on the full album. By what can be gleaned from what remarks he made, the decision had more to do with the visual content tied to the album than anything else.

There aren’t too many names in dance music as iconic as Steve Angello is. The legendary Swedish DJ/producer has been around for over a decade now, birthing some of the most timeless tracks in the genre and making up one third of supergroup Swedish House Mafia for five extraordinarily successful years before their eventual split.
Now, the artist is in the process of redefining his solo career with a solo album set to drop on January 22nd. With half of the tracks already having been released, we’ve had a good taste of what Angello’s been up to over the past couple of years, and we’re definitely happy with the results. What’s been released off of Wild Youth so far has been nothing short of fantastic, and we’re giddy with anticipation to hear what the producer has in store for us with the rest of the album.

The dismal failure of last summer’s We Are You Friends does not appear to have deterred everyone from attempting on-camera adaptations of electronic music culture. Primary Wave Entertainment has announced a new television project in development centered around DJ culture and the world of electronic music, announcing none other than Steve Angello as executive producer.
As one third of now-defunct Edm supergroup Swedish House Mafia, Angello’s electronic music credentials speak for themselves. In addition, the services of his wife and studio partner Isabel Adrian have also been enlisted – as well as music video director Gregory Alosio, Cult Collective’s Pia Lindstrom, Martin Management’s Sharlene Martin-Ludwig and Primary Wave Entertainment senior manager Ben Press.
Considering that little recent news has surfaced in regards to HBO’s Edm-oriented series, Higher – on which Jay Z, Will Smith and Calvin Harris are credited – perhaps Angello and company will be able to...

Now that taking a stab at eclectic musical styles is apparently the thing for former Swedish House Mafia members to do, it looks like Axwell decided to get onboard – for better or for worse. Shortly after Steve Angello’s Wild Youth: Chapter 1 proved that the Size Records founder had more to offer than big room festival fodder, Axwell has returned fire with “Waiting For So Long (Gloria).”
Unfortunately, though, what he’s lobbed into the air with this single has fallen tragically short of its target. “Waiting For So Long” tries to be too many things at once. It starts with future bass-like atmospheric effects before a Madeon-reminiscent melody sets in. Then, the horn section starts, and that’s when it loses you; it’s hard to even pay attention to the vocals with how distracting the rest of the arrangement becomes.
It’s alright, Axwell, not everybody can be a game changer.

This is hardly the first time we’ve heard of a potential Swedish House Mafia reunion, but as more and more evidence mounts, it’s starting to look like it could become a reality.
Not long after Axwell gave us hope during an interview with Zane Lowe, we’re now seeing another hint of a potential return for the Edm supergroup, as they’ve just updated their cover photo on Facebook, changing it from the Leave the World Behind banner to their traditional logo.
Now, this could mean nothing, as the group as made intriguing uploads to their social media accounts in the past that never resulted in anything significant. That being said though, there certainly has been a lot of chatter about a reunion lately, with some people pointing to Ultra Miami as for where it will happen.

As many bad things as could be said about Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike (and trust us, we’ve said most of them), it was hard not to like “Higher Place,” their softer, piano-driven Ne-Yo collaboration from earlier this summer. Thankfully, Afrojack has stepped up to give us more to hate about the track by delivering this juiced-up remix that strips the original of all its redeeming qualities.
Afrojack’s remix of “Higher Place” starts off innocently enough, but after the first verse it introduces a dated synth lead that almost sounds like it was pulled directly from Swedish House Mafia’s 2013 anthem “Reload.” At the bridge, the addition of an electric guitar solo only serves to further entangle the original progression in superfluous influences, ultimately distracting the listener from the aspects of the original that made it work in the first place.

There’s a very simple reason why Steve Angello‘s Wild Youth will be remembered as one of the strongest albums of 2015: It doesn’t sound like anything else on the market right now.
Being that it’s his first full-length album since the 2013 disbanding of his supergroup, Swedish House Mafia, he could have gone the route of his former collaborators and released the hard-kicks-and-hoover-synths progressive house that floods festival main stages worldwide. Given the scene’s current obsession with all things underground, he could also have surrendered himself to whatever whatever deep or tech variety of hipster house is currently being lauded as the second coming of Christ. Instead, Wild Youth Chapter 1 sounds like an evolution of the Edm sound Angello played no small role in shaping that neither betrays nor seeks refuge in the creative legacy he’s already left behind.

Steve Angello, one-third of the now disbanded Swedish House Mafia, but a dance music powerhouse in his own right, spoke to MTV recently about his past musical endeavors, admitting that most of his life has been spent “creating a vibe on the dancefloor.” Now that we’re nearing the release of Angello’s new LP, Wild Youth, set for late January 2016, the Swedish producer is opening up about everything that went into this album.
“I started three and a half years ago. I started it because I wanted to write something that had a meaning and I wanted to tell a story. I think a lot of music today is not really storytelling. A lot of people are just working with songwriters and producers and they get delivered something based upon a request from a record label and some input from the artist. So for me it’s really important to start from scratch.

In case you had any doubt that Edm’s hair metal phase was coming to a close, some of the movement’s most celebrated supergroups of yesteryear have taken to teasing reunions to Beats 1 host Zane Lowe as a means of keeping their names in people’s mouths. While it seemed a little more realistic when Gareth McGrillen and Rob Swire talked about the possibility of a Pendulum reunion, Swedish House Mafia‘s Axwell seems a bit less genuine in how he addresses the all-too-common question.
When asked by Lowe about the possibility of a reunion, Axwell said:
We think about it every now and then, you know what we left, what we did, what we accomplished and everything, and how it would be to do something together again. But I think, the only thing is that time will tell pretty much. We have been blessed to be riding this wave,...

An interview conducted by Fuse TV during the “Children Of The Wild” producer’s recent trip to New Orleans for Voodoo Fest indicates that the shift in focus has been deliberate.
Angello’s upcoming album, Wild Youth, is slated for release on November 20th. Regarding his priorities as an artist, the producer said:

Steve Angello seems to have undergone some sort of musical identity crisis in his post-Swedish House Mafia years. Far be it from us to glorify whatever mental anguish might be coloring the Size Records founder’s recent releases, but to be honest we kind of hope he doesn’t recover from it anytime soon.
Angello and label mate AN21’s remix of Susanne Sundfør’s “Kamikaze” is definitely dance music, but it’s a unique sound in and of itself. With arpeggiated moog synths and artfully arranged vocal samples, the sound of the track is almost reminiscent of French electro duo Justice – but with an even stronger rock music influence. Alongside his other recent releases like “Children of the Wild,” the track makes us hopeful that the Edm icon could redefine dance music in a novel way once more.

There aren’t a great many artists at the top of the Edm game that I shower in praise on a regular basis, but both deadmau5 and Eric Prydz have made such staggering contributions to progressive house that I don’t consider my glowing reviews of their work to be puff pieces. In between a couple of the monthly EPs Prydz has been releasing leading up to his debut album, he also put out “Opus,” a nine-minute aural journey that even the infamously critical deadmau5 couldn’t help but love his tweet to the Swede was any indication:

After a killer set at Ultra 2015, and an exciting announcement pertaining to his upcoming debut album, Alesso is continuing his seemingly unstoppable hot streak by releasing another new track.
Titled “Payday,” the electro banger will appear both on Alessandro’s album and in the video game Payday 2.
