Ryan Murphy made headlines back in 2018 when the prolific producer of TV hits ranging from "Glee" to "American Horror Story" signed a massive content deal with Netflix, estimated at a record-breaking $300 million. Since then, Murphy and his collaborators have delivered a head-spinning array of projects for viewers of the streaming service, in addition to various shows for network television and the FX basic cable brand.
Known for audacious and outrageous plot twists, compelling characters, and assembling a repertory company comprised of some of Hollywood's finest actors, Murphy has managed to leave his imprint on everything he touches. Realistically speaking, Murphy has increasingly spread himself thin as he continues to pump out more and more television content within multiple genres. Though everything remains thoroughly on brand, not all of those projects achieve the same level of quality. Occasional stumbles are inevitable. With that in mind, read on for a roundup of...

It wasn’t all fun and games on Ryan Murphy’s “The Glee Project”, apparently.
To mark the 10th anniversary of the final episode of the reality show, that aired from 2011 to 2012, contestants have spoken out about their time on the series.
Insider interviewed multiple stars of the show, which was dedicated to finding “Glee”‘s next big star, with season 2 contestant Abraham Lim admitting: “There were so many great elements of the show, but it was also really anxiety-inducing and there was a lot of trauma. Trauma bonds were made.”
Executive producer Shauna Minoprio insisted it was all about who Murphy wanted to write a “Glee” character for.
“What’s interesting about the show is, this was about somebody’s creative vision,” Minoprio told the publication. “It wasn’t about who’s the best singer or dancer. It was about who Ryan Murphy was the most excited to write a character for.

The Glee Project wasn't as glee-ful as you might've thought. Former contestants on the Oxygen reality series detailed their experiences in a new interview, sharing that the Glee Project, which saw people compete for a role on Ryan Murphy's hit show Glee, wasn't the Hollywood introduction that they had hoped for. Chief among their complaints were the living conditions, especially during the debut season. "We stayed in a Jewish summer camp," season one contestant Cameron Mitchell told Insider Aug. 22. "We slept in retrofitted bunk bedrooms that didn't have AC. Fans had to be brought in." Added season one runner-up Lindsay Pearce, "The first...

There was a time when “Glee” dominated pop culture, and as a result, a reality competition spinoff was briefly in the spotlight as well. But, according to some of the contestants on “The Glee Project,” that spinoff series actually fostered “a lot of trauma.”
In a new oral history with Insider, former winners and runners-up of “The Glee Project” — including Damian McGinty, Samuel Larsen and Lindsay Pearce — admitted that the reality show was pretty emotionally damaging at times, saying that the producers “manipulated” the young contestants into storylines they wanted to see on screen.
“It was abuse, whether they thought it was or wasn’t,” Pearce, who had a brief arc as Harmony “the Gerber baby” on the show, said. “They made a successful reality television show, but the cost was high for some of us.”
Pearce recalled two specific moments on the show, in which she was involved directly.

What up, So-Bros? A new Freeform drama about teenage addiction premiered Monday, so we’ve got some things to discuss.
PhotosExclusive Young & Hungry First Look: Gabi Kisses [Spoiler] in Trippy Season Premiere
The first episode of Recovery Road introduced viewers to Maddie (Skins‘ Jessica Sula), a high school party girl who may or may not have an addiction to something. (Yes, it’s vague, but that’s kind of the point.) Upon being caught with a bottle of vodka in her locker, she was given two options: expulsion, or 90 days at a sober-living facility. I’ll give you one guess which choice she her mother picked!

When a teen show takes on subject matter a shade darker than the average high school politics or love triangles, it can often be a recipe for disaster. Overacting and melodramatic music can plague even the best of shows, leaving teen audiences with a warped view of what it actually means to go through struggles such as the death of a loved one or, in this case, addiction.
Well, don’t judge Freeform’s Recovery Road, which premieres Monday, Jan. 25 and is adapted from the book by Blake Nelson, by its synopsis. Yes, the series focuses on addiction, particularly that of a party girl named Maddie (Jessica Shula), but it manages to save itself from becoming overtly cheesy or preachy by focusing on its protagonist and taking a more realist approach to the behavior of its teen players.

As Ryan Murphy has previously stated, most of the "Glee" cast will appear as mentors during Season 2 of "The Glee Project," the Oxygen reality competition that rewards young triple-threats with multi-episode arcs on the hit Fox series. Cory Monteith and Naya Rivera have now joined Lea Michele in advising the contestants throughout Season 2.
Lea Michele will appear in the season 2 premiere focused on "Individuality," while Monteith joins the hopefuls for the June 19 installment about "Vulnerability" and bullying. Rivera stops by during the fourth episode on June 26 to talk about "Sexuality."
Episode 2 will see Samuel Larsen, one of Season 1's co-winners, teaching the current contestants about "Dance-ability." Larsen and Damian McGinty both won seven-episode arcs on "Glee," but have exceeded their initial episode count with no end in sight. In addition, runners-up Alex Newell and Lindsay Pearce appeared on multiple episodes as competition for our favorite New Directions members.

Although the contestants on 2011's "Glee Project" reality show thought they were competing against each other for one coveted seven-episode arc on "Glee," creator Ryan Murphy ended up surprising everyone by crowning not one but two winners, and also giving two runners-up three-episode arcs of their own.
Lindsay Pearce popped up in the Season 3 premiere, with winner Damian McGinty appearing just a few episodes later (he continues to recur long past his promised seven-episode stint). Samuel Larsen recently claimed his grand prize, and now the final runner-up, Newell, will make his first appearance in "Saturday Night Glee-ver."

Dianna Agron Tweeted a photo of Larson alongside Chord Overstreet today, while Lea Michele added: "Working with our new cast member Glee Project winner Samuel Larsen today! Get to listen to him sing today and he's so great!"
It's still unknown when Larson will debut, or what role he'll take on (a cousin of Puck is one rumor), but at least we now know he is, indeed, on the way.
Meanwhile, The Glee Project will return for a second season and Michele will appear on at least one episode of the Lifetime reality show when it comes back.

Damian McGinty, the first co-winner of "The Glee Project," made his debut on "Glee" in the beginning of Season 3 (and has shot ten episodes and counting). But so-far, McKinley High has been largely free of Samuel Larsen, the second co-winner. (Even runner-up Lindsay Pearce has already appeared in two episodes, and she didn't even win!)
That's all about to change, as the actor/singer has finally arrived on set to claim his seven-episode prize on the hit Fox show.
Larsen's "Glee" costars announced the news on Twitter today (Jan. 25), with Lea Michele writing, "Working with our new cast member Glee Project winner Samuel Larsen today! Get to listen to him sing today and he's so great!"
Dianna Agron took a craftier approach, first tweeting a photo of a mysterious person playing a guitar and having followers guess who it was, then later revealing his true identity. "Y'all were right. It was @samuellarsen.

As James Hibberd reported earlier today, The Glee Project has been officially confirmed for season 2. EW was on the scene when season 1 co-winner Damian McGinty and Glee Project creator Robert Ulrich (who’s also Glee’s casting director) brought the audition to New York City. While McGinty shared some behind-the-scenes scoop about what’s it’s like on the other side of the camera, Ulrich shared the secret ingredient to Glee Project success. “It isn’t just about the voice by any means,” he said. “It’s about being accessible, having that certain ‘it’ factor, and being able to fit into that Glee world.

Although Oxygen began casting for Season 2 of "The Glee Project" months ago, the network hadn't officially decided whether or not to bring back the reality show for a second summer.
Now, that decision has been made: "The Glee Project" is officially returning for Season 2 during the summer of 2012, Oxygen has announced. One lucky winner (or possibly two, or maybe four, who knows) will win a seven-episode arc on Fox's hit "Glee."
This year, 14 contestants will vie for the ultimate prize. The judging panel will remain in tact, with creator Ryan Murphy, casting director Robert Ulrich, choreographer Zach Woodlee and vocal coach Nikki Anders all returning.
Season 1 winner Damian McGinty is currently filming his tenth "Glee" episode -- so things seem to be going well for him -- while his co-winner Samuel Larsen will begin his arc later in Season 3. Runners-up Lindsay Pearce and Alex Newell also won two-episode arcs on the show,...

Glee 3.08 "Hold On To Sixteen" Recap - Trout Fishing
Glee continues on toward its holiday mid-season finale with “Hold on to Sixteen" which sees Finn working to re-recruit Sam Evans (Chord Overstreet) to the New Directions, while Quinn faces a difficult decision on what to do with sensitive information, and Tina encourages Mike to pursue his dreams.
Don’t have the time to spare? Then here's what you missed on Glee’s “Hold on to Sixteen!”
Meeting up in the halls, Quinn reveals to Rachel that Ms. Shelby Corcoran (Idina Menzel) has been having student-teacher relations with Puck, for which she plans to report to the school. Rachel chimes in that technically speaking, their actions aren’t against the law, and jeopardizing Ms. Corcoran’s career would only be huting Quinn’s biological daughter Beth, truly hitting rock bottom.
With Sectionals only a short time away and taking place in McKinley high’s own auditorium,...

Before I begin, let me thank Heather Hogan for stepping in last week when my power went out. I believe in retrospect it was the gods showing mercy to me by not making me recap what I now firmly believe to be the worst-structured, most badly-written, pointless, plotless episode in the history of Glee, with the sole exception of Santana's amazing scene in which she comes out to, and is rejected by, her abuela.
It didn't help my evaluation of the episode when its author, Matthew Hodgson, took to Twitter last night to opine that those of us who want to see Brittany and Santana kiss should realize that they've already kissed last season in "Duets." He was joined by fellow newbie writer Michael Hitchcock, who decided to tell a fan she "must not have watched the show" if she didn't think they'd kissed.
I'm not sure how they define...

This week on Glee, the New Directions took home the hardware from Sectionals - but Sam and Shelby deserved an award for finally snapping some sense into Quinn, as they convinced her to enjoy the moment and hold on to her youth in "Hold on to Sixteen."
Finally, Blaine and Finn came to terms and, while the latter apparently doesn't need to worry about being bullied anymore after showing his proficiency with the heavy bag, I loved seeing Kurt show some grit of his own as he verbally sparred with the would-be Warbler wooer. He also showed unicorns are not just magical creatures. They are humble, too, as he congratulated Brittany on her victory.
Santana, meanwhile, was en fuego as usual when she whipped out the little journal she had filled with an array of Sam slams in hopes he would one day return. Great cameo by Smallville's John Schneider...

Oh girls, I’m standing right there with you at center stage, mouth agape, contemplating a pretty unexpected conclusion to this week’s Glee. Then again, there’s more than one way to write a happy ending, and so, regardless of whether or not you agreed with the judges’ decision at Sectionals, you prrrrrobably ended the episode with a smile on your face.
Before we get to the grades for this week’s musical numbers, let’s run through the key plot points of “Hold on to 16″:

The newest "Glee" Christmas album doesn't come out until Nov. 15, but good news: you can listen to the entire thing online now!
In addition to the "Glee The Music: The Christmas Album Volume 2" tracks we've already heard, including Naya Rivera's "Santa Baby," Amber Riley's "All I Want for Christmas is You" and Chris Colfer and Darren Criss' "Let it Snow" duet, there are two original Christmas songs. Matthew Morrison and Jayma Mays duet on "Christmas Eve With You," while Lea Michele and Criss sing "Extraordinary Merry Christmas."
The rest of the "Glee" cast gets in on the action as the New Directions boys collaborate on "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" (a poppy rendition of the Bruce Springsteen version), while the entire gang chimes in on "Do They Know It's Christmas."
Even the "Glee Project" winners drop by, with runners-up Alex Newell and Lindsay Pearce dueting on...

The cast of " Glee " just performed their 300th song -- and toofab was on the set for all the action! Plus, the cast revealed Major scoop about what's coming next for the singing students at McKinley High . Warning Spoilers Ahead!!! toofab was among the 150 members of the press who were invited onto the Paramount lot for a behind-the-scenes look at an upcoming episode of "Glee." When we arrived we were herded into the Chorus Room, where we immediately "Gleeked out." Sitting in the back row -- (likely on the same seat Puck uses!) -- we got a hands-on look at the set. Next stop: The show's theater set, where members of Shelby Corcoran's ( Idina Menzel ) new club were revealed. Mercedes ( Amber Riley ), who was last seen defecting from New Directions, led the group -- which also included Sugar Motta ( Vanessa Lengies ), Brittany ( Heather Morris ) and Santana ( Naya Rivera ). Here's where...

A familiar face, in a new position, will soon return to Glee.
This was one of the most significant announcements made by Ryan Murphy and company during a set visit by reporters this week, as the show celebrated its 300th musical number. But it was far from the only spoiler revealed.
Glee Promo: Pot O' Gold
What else can Gleeks look forward to in the coming weeks?
More Glee Project contestants. Damian McGinty debuts on Tuesday as foreign exchange student Rory, while Lindsay Pearce will appear again on episode eight as Rachel’s rival Harmony; and Samuel Larson will debut in January.
A single tribute episode. It will air in the spring and Murphy says it's been in the works for two years. Who might the episode honor? Take your best guess!
Many more Broadway numbers.
A mash-up of Adele. The aforementioned 300th number will actually feature the new William McKinley glee club,...

That "Glee" has filmed 300 musical numbers is a pretty huge milestone already, but when you consider the fact that said numbers have been delivered over the span of just 50 episodes, it becomes an even more remarkable accomplishment.
Those tracks range from "Respect," Mercedes' New Directions audition in the pilot, to the 300th number, an Adele mash-up the cast filmed in front of an audience of press and crew members on Wednesday (Oct. 26).
Zap2it was there, and while we don't want to spoil too much about the performance, here are the details we will spill:
Mercedes and Santana share the leads on a lady-tastic mashup of Adele's "Rumor Has It" and "Someone Like You," which you will want to rush to your iTunes and purchase as soon as you hear it because it is so fantastic. Since this wasn't a New Directions song, they're joined by Sugar (of course) and another former N.

If you haven't gotten into the holiday spirit yet (what, just because it's October you're too cool for some yuletide cheer?), now's the time: "Glee" has announced the tracklisting for the show's second Christmas album.
"Glee: The Music, The Christmas Album Volume 2" will be available Tuesday, Nov. 15 and feature Christmas classics such as "Little Drummer Boy," "Let It Snow," and the seminal Mariah Carey classic "All I Want for Christmas Is You." (Can we get a finally?!)
In addition to the regular "Glee" folks, "Glee" project winner Damian McGinty and runners-up Lindsay Pearce and Alex Newell will lend their voices to "Do You Hear What I Hear?" and "Blue Christmas." Co-winner Samuel Larson will appear on "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town." Important question: Does this mean Samuel's character will appear before the holidays, or are they just including Samuel on the album to keep with the all-inclusive holiday spirit?...
