Taylor Sheridan is stepping in as showrunner on his Paramount+ series “Lioness,” Variety has learned exclusively.
Thomas Brady was originally attached as showrunner and was present throughout the show’s writers’ room. But once the writers’ room wrapped, sources say creative differences led to the producers and Brady agreeing to part ways amicably. Production on the show is slated to begin in September.
Sheridan created “Lioness” under his expansive overall deal with Paramount. The show stars Zoe Saldaña and Laysla De Oliveira. It is based on a real CIA program in which women were trained to infiltrate terrorist and criminal networks.
“Lioness” will follow Cruz Manuelos (De Oliveira), described as a rough-around-the-edges but passionate young Marine, who is recruited to join the CIA’s Lioness Engagement Team to help bring down a terrorist organization from within. Saldaña will play Joe, the station chief of the Lioness program tasked with training,...

Hell on Wheels, Season 4, Episode 12, “Thirteen Steps”
Written by Thomas Brady
Directed by Roxann Dawson
Airs Saturdays at 9pm (Et) on AMC
“I murdered that man for no other reason than to end the life of the man who took my son’s”
Anson Mount said in a recent interview that he sees Cullen Bohannon’s story ending with either him losing his soul and winning the world or vice versa. Considering the journey viewers have been on with him for the past four seasons with him, either option seems possible. The show has seen him seek revenge, go on the run, kill because he was trapped, fall in love, lose love, and become a father. We’ve also seen just how ruthless he can be when the situation calls for it. In many ways the railroad has turned him into a completely different person but really that’s what...

Hell on Wheels, Season 3, Episode 7, “Cholera”
Written by Tom Brady
Directed by Deran Sarafin
Airs Saturdays at 9pm (Et) on AMC
With only three episodes left before the season finale, Hell on Wheels has taken Cullen (Anson Mount) to the point of near death and face to face with the young Mormon boy that lost his family at the hands of the Swede (Christopher Heyerdahl).
As a heat wave sweeps through the camp, rats and snakes take refuge in the town’s water supply which eventually leads to a cholera outbreak that catches up with Cullen. “Cholera” is certainly about the actual physical illness, but it seems to be more about imaginary ailments. Durant (Colm Meaney) spends the majority of the time having a pity party for himself after killing his U.S. Senator partner and Eva (Robin McLeavy) is suffering from what appears to be postpartum depression.

With Tony Gayton and Tom Brady (no, not the football superstar) writing "Purged Away With Blood" and Joe Gayton directing, this Hell on Wheels episode was clearly meant to be a pivotal turning point on Season 2.
With the show's creators at the helm, everything had to be great, right? Sort of. In plenty of respects, the sixth episode did do a lot well.
Tom Noonan gave an outstanding performance as the Reverend. Noonan has always done a solid job portraying the man through his drunk tirades, his crazy beheadings and general outlandish actions, despite the character teetering around in the background.
The episode put him front and center, eliminating his alcohol abuse, cranking up the crazy and revealing a menacingly determined character that was supremely underestimated. Whether he's glaring at Bohannon or breaking down in front of his daughter, Noonan is top notch.
Sadly, his death (was it the only way to stop him?...

Exclusive: In one of its first buys of the season, NBC has gone global with a geopolitical project set at the United Nations. Described as “West Wing in the United Nations,” the drama, which has received a script commitment, follows an interpreter at the international organization’s New York HQ working with ambassadors and politicians from various countries as they deal with political and military crisis around the world. Hell On Wheels’ scribe Tom Brady is writing, Walter Parkes, Laurie MacDonald and Parkes/MacDonald’s Ted Gold executive producing. The project stems from Parkes/MacDonald’s fist-look deal at NBCUniversal, which has yielded one series, the 10-episode Crossbones based on the book The Republic of Pirates. The U.N. has long been a dramatic backdrop for film and TV. Cary Grant was filmed approaching exterior of the actual building in Alfred Hitchcock’s 1958’s North By Northwest, though all interior...
