The writers behind Showtime’s “Yellowjackets” had a very brief time back in the beehive.
The team behind the mystery thriller paused work for Season 3 following the commencement of the Writers Guild of America’s strike — after beginning the writer’s room of the season just the day before.
Ashley Lyle, who created the acclaimed show with her husband Bart Nickerson and co-showruns with him and Jonathan Lisco, shared that the writer’s room would pause work on Monday night, following the WGA’s official announcement of a work stoppage, after meeting for the first time earlier that day.
“Well, we had exactly one day in the ‘YellowJackets’ S3 writers’ room,” Lyle wrote on Twitter. “It was amazing, and creatively invigorating, and so much fun, and I’m very excited to get back to it as soon as the WGA gets a fair deal. #1u #unionstrong.”
IndieWire has reached out to Lyle for comment.

Today at Deadline’s Contenders TV, Yellowjackets‘ Sophie Nélisse was asked if we can expect the Showtime series’ young leads to make it out of the woods any time soon.
“Not just yet. It’s all downhill from here,” said the actress, who plays pregnant teenage plane crash survivor, Shauna. “Like, it doesn’t get any better. It just gets worse. Sorry.”

When asked by moderator Lynette Rice if the cannibalism promised in Season 1, which is finally introduced at the beginning of Season 2, is just one of the worries facing Shauna and her soccer teammates stranded out in the woods, she couldn’t say for sure. “We don’t really know,” Nélisse admitted, “but I don’t think it’s going to look pretty in Season 3.”

Showtime’s Yellowjackets buzzed its way to a series high in viewers for its second season premiere.
The Emmy-nominated drama debuted to about 2 million viewers across all platforms, a series high for the show and more than double the audience for the series premiere in November 2021. It was also up 40 percent over the first season finale in January 2022. The figure includes both the on-air debut on Sunday night and streaming on Showtime platforms, where the season two premiere became available on Friday.
Showtime also says the Yellowjackets premiere brought in the biggest audience for any season two debut of a series on the premium cabler since 2012, when Homeland’s second season began. (On-air ratings will be available early Tuesday, giving a better sense of which platforms viewers chose to watch the premiere.)
The episode also set an all-time high for streaming and on-demand platforms among any season premiere of a Showtime series.

The Season 2 premiere of Yellowjackets delivered Showtime‘s best debut for a second installment that the network has seen in more than 10 years.
Sunday’s episode raked in nearly 2M viewers across all platforms, according to Showtime. The network didn’t provide a specific viewing number. It’s difficult to compare the first and second season launches, because similar data isn’t available for the Season 1 debut. The Season 1 finale drew 1.3M viewers.
Season 1, which earned a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes and received seven Emmy nominations, averaged more than 5M weekly viewers across platforms, the highest for a freshman series on the network in almost six years, since Billions in early 2016. With the debut of Season 2, Yellowjackets now holds the title for the No. 1 season debut for Showtime on digital platforms, beating out Dexter: New Blood for the honor.

The Yellowjackets have brought back the darkness.
The trailer for the highly anticipated second season of Showtime’s hit survival drama Yellowjackets features the adult characters having a realization: There was something dark out there in the wilderness — and they brought it home and are still dealing with it 25 years later.
In its first season, Yellowjackets followed two timelines: the past, when a plane crash left the high school soccer team, called the Yellowjackets, stranded in the wilderness for 19 months in 1996; and the present, to show how the survivors — played by Melanie Lynskey, Juliette Lewis, Tawny Cypress and Christina Ricci — are doing 25 years later.
The trailer shows how the second season will push forward in both timelines. But this season, the show will also pop into the new timeline of 19 months after the crash, when the young characters are saved and begin to unpack the trauma from their time in the woods.

Yellowjackets was a breakout hit during its first season, thanks to a compelling mystery and fine acting.
Showtime celebrated Friday the 13th by dropping around a minute of footage from Yellowjackets Season 2.

The series, based on the novel written by Adam Silvera, is also backed by Bridgerton creator Chris Van Dusen, Yellowjackets executive producer Drew Comins, and Silvera himself.
The book centers on two characters, Mateo Torrez and Rufus Emeterio, who both receive a call from “Death-Cast,” a company that predicts the deaths of individuals.

A show that could become your newest YA obsession is heading to Netflix. Deadline reported that the streamer has acquired the rights to a series adaptation of Adam Silvera's 2017 novel "They Both Die at the End" in a competitive bid. The show, which was in development limbo after being dropped by HBO, will be produced by Entertainment One, whose "Yellowjackets" has proven the consumer demand for dark and compelling YA media.
As for the names responsible for bringing the show to life, Chris Van Dusen is attached as its showrunner. If that's a name you remember, you likely know of him as the first showrunner of Netflix's smash Regency hit "Bridgerton," having held the position for its first two seasons. Drew Comins and Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, also known as the barrier-breaking musician Bad Bunny, will serve as executive producers.

A series adaptation for the New York Times bestselling book “They Both Die at the End,” from author Adam Silvera, has been set at Netflix, hailing from “Bridgerton” creator Chris Van Dusen, as well as executive producers Bad Bunny (née Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio) and “Yellowjackets” EP Drew Comins and studio eOne, TheWrap has learned.
The project, which was acquired by Netflix in a highly competitive bidding situation, has received a significant commitment. It marks Van Dusen’s return to the streamer after the success of “Bridgerton,” where he serves as creator and EP on the period romantic dramedy – one of Netflix’s biggest hits, with Seasons 1 and 2 occupying top spots in the Most Popular List for English-language TV.

Exclusive: In a very competitive situation, with five streamers/networks bidding, Netflix has nabbed a series adaptation of Adam Silvera’s No. 1 New York Times bestselling YA novel They Both Die at the End, I have learned. The project, which hails from Bridgerton creator Chris Van Dusen, Yellowjackets executive producer Drew Comins and studio eOne as well as music superstar Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, known professionally as Bad Bunny, has received a significant, script-to-series commitment, I hear. It marks Van Dusen’s return to Netflix where he created and served as executive producer/showrunner on the first two seasons of Shondaland’s hit period drama Bridgerton, each of them ranking as Netflix’s most popular English-language TV series at the time of their launch.
Emmy and PGA Award-nominated Van Dusen is writing the pilot script and is executive producing through his Cvd Productions alongside Silvera, Ocasio, and Comins via his eOne-based Creative Engine.

Showtime's "Yellowjackets" was one of the most fascinating new shows to debut in 2021. The series centers on the members of a Seattle high school girls' soccer team (i.e. the Yellowjackets) whose plane crashes in the Canadian wild on their way to a national tournament in 1996. 25 years later, only a few of the players are still alive, having somehow managed to survive in the woods for 19 months before being rescued. The show blends horror -- some of which may be supernatural in nature, though that's yet to be confirmed -- with high school coming-of-age drama and mystery box storytelling as it slowly reveals the truth about what really went down in the wilderness. Meanwhile, in the series' present-day, the remaining...

According to Comins, the show's success and uniqueness lies not in its plot, which he says people tend to describe as "a young, female 'Lord of the Flies'" or "'Lost' with teenage girls," but in the execution of its often bone-chilling tone. Particularly, Comins said he...

Showtime is developing a football drama with former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, Gossip Girl and The Boys star Chace Crawford and Yellowjackets exec producer Drew Comins.
The series, which is in the early stages of development at the ViacomCBS-owned network, follows a fictitious first family of football and the players, coaches, and power brokers behind the high stakes world of America’s biggest professional sport.
The network is searching for a writer for the untitled project, which comes from eOne, where Comins and his Creative Engine Entertainment is based.
Romo and Crawford are, in fact, brothers in law. Romo, who is currently an announcer for CBS having spent 14 seasons with the Cowboys, is married to Crawford’s sister Candice.
The project has been described as a cross between Succession and Friday Night Lights.
It is the latest project for Comins, who helped put together Yellowjackets, one of Showtime’s biggest hits in years.

The shocking and ominous “Yellowjackets” finale sent over a million shivers down watchers’ spines, amassing around 1.3 million viewers across platforms on Sunday alone, more than doubling its audience from the season premiere. Moreover, the series has averaged over 5 million weekly viewers across platforms, the highest for a debut series on Showtime since “Billions” dropped in 2016.

Showtime has renewed its chilling thriller “Yellowjackets” for a second season. According to the network, 4 million viewers across Showtime’s platforms have watched the premiere of “Yellowjackets,” which made its debut on Nov. 14. The horror drama flashes back and forth between two periods: One, the aftermath of a plane crash, when the members of a girls’ soccer team have to fend for themselves; the other, in their adult lives, as they deal with the trauma of that experience in very different ways.
Melanie Lynskey, Juliette Lewis, Christina Ricci and Tawny Cypress lead the adult cast of the show. “Yellowjackets” was created and executive produced by Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson, with whom Jonathan Lisco is co-showrunner and executive producer. Karyn Kusama directed the harrowing pilot and is an executive producer; Drew Comins of Creative Engine is also an executive producer. Entertainment One produces “Yellowjackets” for Showtime.

The first television project from Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson, two of the producers behind “Narcos” and “Narcos: Mexico,” is nearly here. The duo’s “Yellowjackets” series is slated to premiere November 14 on Showtime.
The premium network recently revealed the trailer for the upcoming 10-episode survival drama, along with the official description:
Equal parts survival epic, psychological horror story and coming-of-age drama, “Yellowjackets” is the saga of a team of wildly talented high school girls soccer players who become the (un)lucky survivors of a plane crash deep in the remote northern wilderness. The series chronicles their descent from a complicated but thriving team to savage clans, while also tracking the lives they’ve attempted to piece back together nearly 25 years later, proving that the past is never really past and what began out in the wilderness is far from over.
The series’ trailer aptly plays on the disparate themes of “Yellowjacket.

When Melanie Lynskey read the pilot script for Yellowjackets, she knew she needed to be part of the series, despite the fact that she’s typically “nervous” about signing on to long-term TV contracts.
“You read a lot of things that are different for the sake of being different or edgy, [but] there was a genuine edge to this. It was so female-centered and everyone was so well drawn,” she said during one of the Showtime series’ panels today at TCA. “I loved how the show really got to the heart of female relationships. It was really complicated and grounded in something I believed in, in my heart.”
Juliette Lewis was similarly compelled, noting that the script she received was one of the best she’d read in the last 10-plus years. “It was absolutely riveting…and I’m always interested in dichotomies or contrasts in all these multilayered problems within a human being,...
