The year 2024 is turning out to be quite the year for Hugh Jackman. The Australian star is making a return to the big screen as everyone’s favorite clawed mutant, Wolverine. The X-Men member has been a mainstay not only in the comics, but also in the movie series, beginning with 2000’s X-Men. It was the latter which catapulted Hugh Jackman to a pedestal from which there was no turning back. The year 2024 marks a return for Jackman to his loved role. But it comes alongside confirmation that he will be making his debut as Robin Hood, as well.

Hugh Jackman is giving Robin Hood the “Logan” treatment.
Jackman, who is best known for playing Wolverine in the “X-Men” film series, has signed on to star in “The Death of Robin Hood” alongside Jodie Comer (“Killing Eve”) and rising writer-director Michael Sarnoski, Deadline reports.
The film is described as “a darker reimagining of the classic Robin Hood tale. Set in its time, the film will see the title character grappling with his past after a life of crime and murder, a battle-worn loner who finds himself gravely injured and in the hands of a mysterious woman who offers him a chance at salvation.”
“It has been an incredible opportunity to reinvent and freshly innovate the story we all know of Robin Hood,” Sarnoski said in a statement to Deadline. “Securing the perfect cast to transform the script to screen was essential. I could not be more thrilled and trusting...

Hugh Jackman makes his anticipated return as Wolverine this summer, but while he is excitingly reprising a beloved role, many agree he also perfectly capped off the popular mutant’s journey in the future-set X-Men sequel, Logan. Logan told the story of a popular anti-hero aging into his older years as he became a more broken-down version of himself. Jackman may not be veering too far off from that theme as he is now set to star in a darker incarnation of the story of literary folk hero Robin Hood.
According to Deadline, Jackman and Jodie Comer are set to star in The Death of Robin Hood. Michael Sarnoski, who directed Pig and A Quiet Place: Day One, will be penning and directing the retelling with Arrival and The Prestige producer Aaron Ryder on board to produce the film. Per Deadline, “The film is a darker reimagining of the classic Robin Hood tale.

Hugh Jackman and Jodie Comer are heading to Sherwood Forest for one last hurrah.
The “Wolverine” star and the “Killing Eve” actress are attached to star in “The Death of Robin Hood,” a cheery-sounding new film from Michael Sarnoski, the director of the critically-acclaimed “Pig” and this summer’s “A Quiet Place: Day One.”
According to the official logline, the film will find Robin Hood “grappling with his past after a life of crime and murder.” Instead of the merry outlaw seen in certain previous versions of the story like the one portrayed by Errol Flynn, this Robin Hood is “a battleworn loner [who] finds himself gravely injured and in the hands of a mysterious woman, who offers him a chance at salvation.” It sounds reminiscent of Richard Lester’s elegiac take on the popular story, “Robin and Marian,” a 1976 film starring Sean Connery and Audrey Hepburn as a middled-aged Robin Hood and Maid Marian.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire premiered on March 29, 2024, as the most recent installment in the MonsterVerse franchise. The movie received mixed reviews from critics and is one of the installments with the lowest score, but fans are amazed, as the movie became a box office hit! The movie was directed by Adam Wingard, whom we have recently talked about as the potential director of a live-action ThunderCats movie, which was rumored to be the director’s next project, following Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. But, as the most recent reports confirm, Wingard’s next project won’t be the planned ThunderCats movie, but it won’t be a sequel to Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire either.
Namely, as it has been confirmed, Adam Wingard has accepted to direct an action movie, Onslaught, for A24, as the indie production company is moving up in the movie world, becoming...

Fresh off the success of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire and with Face/Off 2 in development, director Adam Wingard and screenwriter Simon Barrett have just set up another project together – but this isn’t another entry in an established, blockbuster-level property. Instead, Wingard and Barrett are going back to their roots with this one. Deadline reports that their new project, which is called Onslaught, is “in the vein of Wingard and Barrett’s cult classics like The Guest and You’re Next.“
As they note, Wingard and Barrett made the horror thrillers You’re Next (2011) and The Guest (2014) together before they ventured into franchise territory with the 2016 Blair Witch movie. They also made the 2010 horror film A Horrible Way to Die together, and while that movie does have its own cult following, the cult isn’t as large as the ones that follow You’re Next and The Guest.

It looks like another Godzilla x Kong movie will have to wait.
Adam Wingard, who directed the last two of the hit Legendary MonsterVerse movies, has lined up a new feature project that will go before any new creature feature.
A24, the one-time scrappy indie that is rapidly scaling up, came out on top of an auction to pick up Onslaught, an action thriller that reteams Wingard with his frequent collaborator Simon Barrett. The two made the cult hits You’re Next and The Guest.
Wingard and Barrett are writing the project with Wingard on board to direct. It is said to have a scope more in line with his early movies, which were all original creations. Details for Onslaught are being kept behind the barricades, but sources describe it as a gonzo action horror thriller that will shoot this fall.

Amy Adams has been tapped to star in At the Sea, a new drama from Kornel Mundruczó and Kata Wéber — the director and writer of such acclaimed films as Pieces of a Woman and White God — as well as Hammerstone Studios, Ryder Picture Company and Ar Content.
Set to enter production in Boston in June, the film follows the life of Laura (Adams) after a long rehabilitation, as she returns to her family at their beach holiday home where she has to readjust to the complicated life she left behind. Now she is forced to face the following next chapter of her life without the career that gave her fame, fortune and, most importantly, identity.
Pic will be produced by Alexander Rodnyansky of Ar Content, Stuart Manashil, Aaron Ryder and Andrew Swett for Ryder Picture Company, Hammerstone Studios’ Alex Lebovici and Jon Oakes, and Viktória Petrányi and Mundruczó. Exec producers are Paul J. Diaz, Maria Breese of 3:33 Creative, Lee Broda of Lb Entertainment, Jeff Rice of Jeff Rice Films, and Michael Kupisk. Zsofi Oblath and Rachel Rubin will co-produce.
Ar Content, Paul J. Diaz, and Hammerstone Studios will finance the film, with WME Independent to rep domestic rights, Capstone Pictures handling international, and Sacker Law to oversee production legal.
A six-time Academy Award nominee, Adams most recently wrapped production on 3000 Pictures’ Klara and the Sun, the next film from Oscar winner Taika Waititi, which adapts the dystopian sci-fi story from Kazuo Ishiguro. Up next, she’ll be seen starring in Searchlight Pictures’ Nightbitch from filmmaker Marielle Heller, a dark comedy she also produced through her production company Bond Group Entertainment that hits theaters December 6.
A married director-writer pair out of Hungary, Mundruczó and Wéber are perhaps best known for their 2020 pregnancy drama Pieces of a Woman, which premiered in Venice and brought star Vanessa Kirby her first Oscar nomination following its release on Netflix. Prior to that, the duo collaborated on White God, which won the Un Certain Regard Prize at Cannes in 2014; Jupiter’s Moon, which was nominated for the Palme d’Or; and Evolution, which also played the French festival. Separately, Mundruczó directed the pilot of the Apple TV+ limited series, The Crowded Room, starring Tom Holland and Amanda Seyfried.
Most recently, Hammerstone produced the action thriller Boy Kills World starring Bill Skarsgård, which will release wide on April 26, and the horror-thriller Don’t Move, starring Kelsey Asbille and Finn Wittrock, for Netflix.
Ryder Picture Company has produced acclaimed titles like Dumb Money and Bruiser.
Ar Content is known for Cannes prize winners like 2019’s Beanpole, from filmmaker Kantemir Balagov, and 2021’s Unclenching the Fists from Kira Kovalenko.
Adams is represented by WME, Linden Entertainment, and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern. Mundruczó and Wéber are repped by United Agents and Novo.

Updated: Craig Gillespie’s Dumb Money, which is making its Toronto Film Festival world premiere this weekend, is still on course for a three-step platform release September 15 (in LA & NYC) and September 22, but will now break wide on September 29 instead of October 6.
The comedy also sidesteps Universal’s The Exorcist: The Believer.
Its the latest movie to step out of the way of the AMC-distributed concert film Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, which as of last week clocked more than $37 million from the three big theater circuits — AMC, Regal and Cinemark — in its first 24 hours of presales ahead of its October 13 release. It will play October 13-15, 19-22, 26-29 and October 31 and November 2-5 at AMC, Regal, Cinemark in Dolby and Imax.
Apple Original Films/Paramount’s Killers of the Flower Moon is going wide now on Oct. 20, as we reported previously; a change-up from the pic’s original plans below.

Excuse me while I put my feet up, burn one, and bask in the glow of executives getting screwed over by their own hubris. Why am I lounging? I just watched Sony’s trailer for Dumb Money, the Craig Gillespie-directed comedy-drama retelling the GameStop stock debacle that sent several fat cats to their financial ruin. The Dumb Money red-band trailer features Paul Dano as Keith Gill, the financial analyst who invested his life savings into a failing GameStop stock that eventually made him (and others) a millionaire. Gill’s story is a wild one, filled with twists and turns. Gillespie’s new film explores the YouTube sensation’s story, with both sides incurring blowback from a dangerous numbers game.
Pete Davidson, Vincent D’Onofrio, America Ferrera, Nick Offerman, Anthony Ramos, Sebastian Stan, Shailene Woodley, and Seth Rogen star alongside Dano in Sony’s Dumb Money red-band trailer. Gillespie directs from...

There’s no such thing as dumb luck when it comes to good money.
“Dumb Money” is based on Ben Mezrich’s “The Antisocial Network” book, charting the 2021 GameStop short squeeze that changed Wall Street forever. Rebecca Angelo and Lauren Schuker Blum adapted the book. Craig Gillespie directs the feature adaptation, which stars Seth Rogen, Sebastian Stan, Pete Davidson, Paul Dano, Vincent D’Onofrio, Dane DeHaan, Shailene Woodley, and Anthony Ramos.
“The Batman” alum Dano stars as real-life YouTuber Keith Gill. Rogen, meanwhile, portrays the head of investment firm Melvin Capital, Gabe Plotkin, who tries to figure out the reason behind his big financial loss.
Rogen told Vanity Fair that the stock market is “purposely convoluted” since it is “designed to keep people out of it.” The fascinating true story behind “Dumb Money” essentially democratized the stock market for the average American.
“The price of entry is understanding this completely bizarre system.

Director Craig Gillespie is taking audiences back to 2021 with the first trailer for his latest film, “Dumb Money.” The film, according to the official synopsis, “is the ultimate David vs. Goliath tale, based on the insane true story of everyday people who flipped the script on Wall Street and got rich by turning GameStop into the world’s hottest company.
In the middle of everything is regular guy Keith Gill (Paul Dano), who starts it all by sinking his life savings into the stock and posting about it. When his social posts start blowing up, so does his life and the lives of everyone following him. As a stock tip becomes a movement, everyone gets rich – until the billionaires fight back, and both sides find their worlds turned upside down.”
Dano, coming off his role in Steven Spielberg’s “The Fablemans” last year, is at the center of the trailer.

The official trailer for Sony’s “Dumb Money” has dropped, shedding light on how a group of amateur investors artificially increased the stock value of GameStop, the popular video game retailer.
The short squeeze occurred in January 2021 after Reddit users on a page called “Wall Street Bets” united to catalyze a market explosion. As a result, significant hedge funds and independent short sellers incurred devastating financial loss.
Based on author Ben Mezrich’s “The Antisocial Network,” “Dumb Money” similarly centers around the Reddit users behind the phenomenon with actors Seth Rogen, Paul Dano, Sebastian Stan and Pete Davidson in lead roles.
The star-studded cast also includes Nick Offerman, Shailene Woodley, America Ferrera, Dane DeHaan, Vincent D’Onofrio, Clancy Brown, Anthony Ramos, Kate Burton, Christina Brucato, Deniz Akdeniz, Talia Ryder, Myha’la Herrold, Larry Owens and Rushi Kota.

Sony Pictures has slated “Dumb Money” for theatrical release on October 20, 2023. The film, directed by Craig Gillespie, tells the true story of a Wall Street short squeeze that momentarily turned GameStop stock into the hottest investment in town.
The squeeze had initially been triggered by users of the subreddit r/wallsteetbets, an online forum, although some hedge funds also participated. The momentary skyrocketing of the video game store’s per-share value, from $17.25 in early January of 2021 to $500 just weeks later, turned the saga into a skewed David vs. Goliath story. The narrative of amateur traders and “fans” of the company driving up its stock price as a form of fandom/social protest against the stereotypical investor class proved irresistible as a juicy media story.

Gamestop brought more than power to the players when it caused a financial catastrophe on Wall Street in 2021. At the time, Gamestop shares soared to unfathomable heights, making millionaires out of Redditors and costing hedge funds millions as traders scrambled to contain the situation. A lot of weird stuff has happened since the start of the pandemic, and studios are already working like clockwork to crank out film adaptations of that weirdness. In one of the most high-profile ventures, "Dumb Money" looks to tell the story of that time in 2021 when a bunch of Reddit investors broke the stock market by causing the stocks in GameStop, a barely surviving company, to skyrocket. Earlier this year, a documentary about the situation called "GameStop: Rise of the Players" became available to watch on Hulu, but this will be the first live-action retelling.
The story is based on the book "The Antisocial Network: The GameStop Short Squeeze and the Ragtag Group of Amateur Traders That Brought Wall Street to Its Knees" by Ben Mezrich. Mythos Studios, the year-old content venture from Marvel Studios founding chairman David Maisel and manager-mogul Scooter Braun, announced Thursday the group of creatives who are overseeing three films in pre-production.
Foremost is “Cupid,” the first film in a planned universe based on Greek and Roman mythology. The titular matchmaker, to be voiced by Justin Bieber, will be directed by celebrated music video helmer and commercial animator Pete Candeland (of the beloved Gorillaz videos).
The narrative tells of Cupid and his love interest Psyche, developed for the screen by Carlos Kotkin (“Rio 2”) from a story adaptation by Maisel. Psyche, still uncast, is human royalty whose beauty intimidates Cupid’s mom Aphrodite.
The late Michael Turner, a comic creator and artist who worked with DC and Marvel, is most noted for his earliest and solo creations. Two of those, “Fathom” and “Soulfire,” are in productions as complimenting features that will move...
