Formerly titled The Color Rose, The Sinners wears its cinematic influences on its sleeves. Drawing heavily from teen girl movies like The Craft and Cruel Intentions while emulating Twin Peaks’ peculiar small-town vibe, Courtney Paige’s directorial feature debut attempts to blend a teen slasher with a crime thriller. Despite a solid concept, the result is a stylish yet disjointed film full of dangling […]...

The people who are the most at peace with themselves and their existences are often those who have the courage to take risks and pursue the ambitions they have set for themselves. That’s certainly the case for both the filmmakers and characters of the new horror movie, ‘The Sinners,’ which is inspired by such ’90s […]

What do attractive teens get up to in 2020? They vape and go on that TikTok, right? Wrong! They form cults. Honestly, kids today. Back when I was young, I used to drink alcohol until I lost control of my body and my Mum had to come and rescue me. As God intended.

A cultish clique of teenage bullies commit a sin against cinema’s first commandment to show, don’t tell
Several past-it tropes from 1990s and 00s teen horror films strut the corridors of high school once more in this debut by director Courtney Paige. In a devoutly Christian small town, local preacher’s daughter Grace Carver (Kaitlyn Bernard) rebels against her conservative community by wearing scarlet lipstick and conducting a strenuously titillating affair with her Bff (very Cruel Intentions). The actual scandal though is her cultish clique, the Sins (very The Craft), founded with six of her naughtiest classmates. The group is so named because each member is reputed to embody a different one of the seven cardinal vices. Flirtatious Grace is Lust, rich girl Katie is Greed and so on.

For The Sinners, actress Courtney Paige takes the directorial reins on her first feature film to tell the story of a clique of high school girls, known as “The Sins,” who find themselves caught up in the middle of a deadly murder mystery where someone is looking to eliminate the group, one member at a time. Co-written and directed by Paige, The Sinners stars Kaitlyn Bernard, Brenna Coates, Brenna Llewellyn, Lochlyn Munro, Michael Eklund, and Tahmoh Pinikett.
During the recent press day for The Sinners, Daily Dead spoke with Paige about the project, and she discussed the inspiration behind the story, her love for ’90s teen-centric genre movies, the challenges of taking on such an ambitious story for her feature film debut, and more.

"They are asking for trouble with that behavior!" Brainstorm Media has released an official trailer for an indie thriller titled The Sinners, formerly known as The Color Rose, marking the feature directorial debut of actress Courtney Paige. This originally premiered at the Mammoth Film Festival last year, and arrives on VOD early next month. The Sinners is a thrilling murder mystery about seven girls from a religious town that start a cult where they embody the seven deadly sins. They realize there's more to their small religious town after they go missing one by one after a prank goes wrong. The indie horror-thriller stars Kaitlyn Bernard, Brenna Coates, Brenna Llewellyn, Aleks Paunovic, Lochlyn Munro, Michael Eklund, and Tahmoh Pinikett. It looks a tad cliche and cheesy, with the religious undertones, but still quite eerie. Here's the new official trailer (+ poster) for Courtney Paige's The Sinners, direct from YouTube: You...

I think you all know me by now and realise that I am willing to give pretty much anything a fair shake. The Sinners synopsis did read like a bit of a change pace as well, moving into the more teen angs drama territory with a promise of some sort of “Mean Girls meets The Craft” hybrid. Of course I wasn’t the biggest fan of Let’s Scare Julie which felt like it was trying to do a similar things. So I was quietly hoping that this one would win me over…

Exclusive: Cameras are already rolling in Northern Rivers, Australia on Seriously Red, the musical dramedy that reps the first feature from Rose Byrne’s Dollhouse Pictures. While Dollhouse launched five years ago, and the Seriously Red screenplay by Krew Boylan has been in the fold, we can tell you that Byrne will be part of the newly announced ensemble cast along with her Emmy-winning partner Bobby Cannavale and Daniel Webber. Arclight Films has boarded to handle worldwide distribution rights with Gracie Otto (The Last Impresario) directing.
In the rowdy and rambunctious musical comedy, Red (played by Boylan) is at a crossroads in her life. A vivacious and hilarious redhaired woman grappling with high expectations and low self-esteem, she pours herself a cup of ambition and trades her 9 to 5 career in real estate for a life under the spotlight as a Dolly Parton impersonator.

Arclight Films is launching international sales on the horror-thriller “The Devil to Pay,” starring Danielle Deadwyler, Catherine Dyer and Jayson Warner Smith.
Arclight chairman Gary Hamilton made the announcement Monday, coinciding with the launch of the online American Film Market.
The story centers on a struggling farmer in an isolated Appalachian community, who fights to save her son when the cold-hearted matriarch of the oldest family on the mountain demands payment of a debt that could destroy a decades-old truce. Lane Skye and Ruckus Skye wrote and directed the film, and produced alongside Deadwyler, Martin L. Kelley, Allison Maier and Gabriel Olson.
“Danielle is a formidable talent, leading this gripping tale of familial defense through its pulse-racing twists and turns, as excellently plotted by Lane and Ruckus,” said Hamilton. “Our buyers have shown a consistent appetite for this kind of cerebral, elevated horror-thriller that both entertains and enlightens. A high school clique. Glamour, exclusivity, bad reputations. Artfully arranged dead girls with roses pressed between their lips. The Sinners plays the part so well that you'd be forgiven for thinking it was just more of the usual, but this is Courtney Paige's film, and she's taking it somewhere very different.
One of the opening night selections for Frightfest's October 2020 edition, this is the story of a group of girls who don't so much choose to form a clique as get pushed into one, being labelled sinners because they don't share the values held by most people in their Evangelical Christian town (though one remains keen to point out "We're not atheists!"). Taking ownership of the slur, they decide that each of them will embody one of the Deadly Sins, though only Wrath (Brenna Coates) seems committed to it full time. Lust (Kaitlyn Bernard) is a pastor's daughter and.

The latest deals include Blue Swan for Italy, Snd Films for France, Art Mood for Spain, At Entertainment for Japan, Gulf Film for Middle East, Challan for South Korea, Paradise/Mgn for Cis, Shaw for Singapore, Program 4 Media for Romania, and Siyah Bayez Movies for Turkey. "All my friends are dying, and it's all my fault..." Rock Salt Releasing has unveiled an official trailer for an indie cult drama titled The Color Rose, marking the directorial debut of Canadian filmmaker Courtney Paige - who also co-stars in the film. Seven girls decide to start a cult where each of them must embody one of the seven deadly sins. They realize there's more to their religious town after they go missing one by one. Described as "a compelling and haunting tale with eerie twists", of course, which is exactly what the story sounds like anyway. This stars Kaitlyn Bernard, Loretta Walsh, Elysia Rotaru, Brenna Llewellyn, Brenna Coates, Keilani Elizabeth Rose, Jasmine Randhawa, Carly Fawcett, Aleks Paunovic, and Lochlyn Munro. This looks rather bland and derivative, without anything new or interesting going on. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Courtney Paige's The Color Rose, direct from YouTube...
