Caracas, May 4 (Ians) Venezuela will play friendlies matches against Honduras and Guatemala in the United States next month, the South American country’s football federation has said.
The Vinotinto will meet Honduras in Dallas on June 15 and Guatemala in Connecticut three days later, the entity said in a statement on social media on Wednesday.
The doubleheader will be one of the last chances for Venezuela manager Fernando Batista to test his squad before the South American zone qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, reports Xinhua.
Batista, who replaced Jose Pekerman as head coach in March, oversaw a 2-1 victory over Saudi Arabia and a 1-1 draw with Uzbekistan in his first games in charge.
Venezuela have never qualified for the World Cup and finished in last place in South America’s qualifying group for the 2022 edition in Qatar.

Caracas, March 11 (ians) Argentine manager Fernando Batista has been appointed head coach of Venezuela’s national team after agreeing to a three and a half-year contract, the Venezuelan Football Federation (Fvf) said.
The 52-year-old replaces compatriot Jose Pekerman, who departed after a 15-month spell that included five wins, a draw and four losses, reports xinhua news agency.
“I am here to announce that Fernando Batista will be in charge of our men’s team … to lead this great Vinotinto project,” Fvf president Jorge Gimenez told a news conference.
Batista, who was previously the manager of Venezuela’s under-23 team, will be tied to the Vinotino until the 2026 World Cup, to be played in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Venezuela are the only team in the South America Football Confederation (Conmebol) to have never qualified for football’s showpiece tournament. Conmebol’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers are due to begin in September.

Pekerman took charge of the Vinotinto in November 2021 following the exit of Portuguese coach Jose Peseiro.
The former Colombia national team manager led the Vinotinto to four wins, four draws, and two losses.
Venezuela, who have never played in a World Cup finals, had hoped that Pekerman would help the team qualify for the 2026 edition of football’s showpiece tournament in Canada, the United States and Mexico.

In the final round of matches for Group H, Senegal and Colombia will play for a guaranteed spot in the round of 16. Despite Colombia boasting key players like James Rodriguez and a staggering 3-0 win against Poland last Sunday, midfielder Abel Aguilar will not play on Thursday because of a left adductor injury he garnered during the match. But Colombia coach Jose Pekerman said not to rule out Aguilar for the rest of the tournament should Colombia advance to the knockout stage.
Although Senegal scored a 2-2 draw with Japan on Sunday, achieving another draw against Colombia will be enough to move forward if Japan lose to Poland. Senegal also made waves this week when the team’s warm-up dance went viral.
Best practice ever!
