Legendary has closed a deal with I Am Mother filmmaker Grant Sputore to helm the next theatrical title in their Monsterverse franchise. As previously reported, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings scribe Dave Callaham is penning the next installment.
This comes in the wake of Adam Wingard stepping back for another Godzilla & Kong movie; that filmmaker having helmed the last two titles, Godzilla vs. Kong and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, the latter of which recently became the highest grossing in the Monsterverse franchise with $569.1M.

Legendary’s Monsterverse has found a new master of disaster. The studio has tapped Grant Sputore to direct the next theatrical outing in the franchise following March’s Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.
Sputore came up from the world of commercials, and as a features director helmed the sci-fi movie I Am Mother, starring Hilary Swank. The film bowed at Sundance before hitting Netflix in 2019.

Exclusive: Jeff Dye (Better Late Than Never), Carlos “HaHa” Davis (The Come Up), Dustin Ybarra (Home Economics) and Ryu Go Eun (WeCrashed) have signed on to star in Stealing Jokes, an action-comedy from writer-director Mike Young (A Stand Up Guy), which is heading into production this week in Detroit.
