After the Southern Gothic thriller elements of 2017’s The Beguiled and the broad rom-com antics of 2020’s On the Rocks, which saw Sofia Coppola departing slightly from the aesthetic territory that she’d staked so forcefully in her earlier work, Priscilla finds the filmmaker firmly back in her wheelhouse. Based on Priscilla Presley’s 1985 biography Elvis and Me, Coppola’s latest is another impossibly photogenic tale of fame, solitude, material wealth, and female desire in a world that often contrives to deny its existence. In conjunction with the film’s release, we ranked all of Coppola’s features to date. David Robb

One test of a strong documentary is whether the subject matter could interest everyone or simply aficionados. It’s tough to imagine anybody watching “Unfinished Business” without immediately buying tickets to the next available WNBA game.
Director Alison Klayman (“Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry”) blends two approaches, offering us an introduction to the league itself as well as a closer look at the New York Liberty team. The truth is that both halves of this film deserve their own movie, but since each is equally compelling, Klayman never once loses our attention.
It certainly helps that she’s got such an extraordinary cast of participants. Wonderful interviews with legendary players like Teresa Weatherspoon, Rebecca Lobo, Crystal Robinson and Sue Wicks set the stage for a time — 1995 to be exact — when the idea of a professional women’s league was barely even a dream.

In the modern world dating and relationships, and online dating apps, can seem at best a gamble and at worst a round of Russian roulette. Fresh is a film that leans more towards the latter. The film centers around its main heroine Noa, Daisy-Edgar Jones, a young woman whose disgust for dating is changed by a chance encounter in a grocery store with her would-be prince charming, an awkwardly charming man named Steve (Sebastian Stan). Even by today’s standards, things start to move fast, and it isn’t long before Steve suggests that the couple go out for a reclusive getaway in the wilderness. It isn’t long before Noa begins to suspect that Steve isn’t quite everything and that the wild appetites that he harbors in his heart, may be more than the stomach can handle.

Do you enjoy "the lavish harmonies of Abba, chirrupy eighties radio pop, nineties R&B, a girl-group sound that, rhythmically and melodically, owes as much to TLC and Destiny’s Child as the Ronettes"? (As described by Jody Rosen in his Sleigh Bells piece for New York.) Then head over to Rolling Stone, where Sleigh Bells' new album, Bitter Rivals, is now streaming.

In Derek Miller’s apartment in Williamsburg, there is a poster on the refrigerator door of Larry Bird, the Boston Celtics legend. Bird’s mouth is agape, his right arm fully extended, his body nearly horizontal as he lunges for a basketball that is just beyond the reach of his fingertips. Across the top of the poster is a quotation from Bird: “It makes me sick when I see a guy just watching it go out of bounds.”On a bright fall afternoon, Miller, the guitarist and producer of the indie-pop duo Sleigh Bells, is lounging on his sofa with his bandmate, singer Alexis Krauss. The Bird poster isn’t the only thing that gives the apartment a man-cave feel. Miller is pecking at his MacBook, whose desktop wallpaper is a photo of Michael Jordan. There is a pair of boxing gloves in a corner against a wall. The U.

Fyf Festival hasn't hit its teens yet, but the 10th annual festival showed that its grown up and is ready to join the big boys in the Southern California music festival scene.
Fyf Festival rocked the Los Angeles Historic Park over the weekend, concluding Sunday with a raucous, eardrum popping set by the Irish indie-rock band My Bloody Valentine, celebrating a landmark in the young festival's evolving life.
While previous years have showcased great bands like M83, Sleigh Bells and long-awaited reunions like The Descendents and more, fans who came to celebrate the milestone with Fyf this year said the lineup really brought the festival to another level.
The more than 25,000 people at the two-day festival saw a James Brown-esque performance by soul singer Charles Bradley, who was carried off stage so he can hug fans after his set, and a light and sound interactive show by electronic musician Dan Deacon,...

Oh my gosh, there are so many comics. I took a month off visiting the comic shop on a weekly basis due to time constraints and the desire to have a little bit more money in my account prior to the end of the month. But then I got a fat stack of comics that had been sat behind the counter waiting for me. Then I got more the following week before I’d even had time to read all the ones the previous. Because there are so… many… comics. Even now, there’ll be more comics tomorrow. It’s a never ending spiral of stuff happening before some guy in a flat in South East London can write about it. Here’s my round up of the last month or so…
So Morning Glories (#29, Nick Spencer, Joe Eisma, Image Comics) is still happening, is still good and I’m still buying it.

There comes a moment in every teen movie — or in any movie about adults acting like teens, which is to say, stupidly — when the bad kids reveal themselves. It usually involves a Juicy sweatsuit and some poor nail-care choices; there is often a slow-motion shot of someone striding down a hallway; and it always, always features a blaring pop song. Lately, that song has been by Sleigh Bells: the Florida’s duo’s 2010 album Treats is experiencing a movie-trailer renaissance, specifically in movies about teen girls behaving badly. “Infinity Guitars” shows up in the Kick-Ass 2 trailer, just as Chloe Moretz slaps Aaron Johnson-Wood in the face; “Kids” scored the original trailer for Pain and Gain (which is more or less a movie about teenage girls trapped in Mark Wahlberg & Co.’s ’roided bodies). And most crucially, “Crown on the Ground” opens both the trailer and the title...

Let's have a toast for Kanye West. Without him, Frank Ocean's "Super Rich Kids" probably wouldn't playing over the closing credits of Sofia Coppola's "The Bling Ring."
"Early on, we had got in touch with Kanye, and his response was, 'You've got to get this song 'Super Rich Kids' by Frank Ocean,'" Brian Reitzell, the "Bling Ring" music supervisor, told Rolling Stone in a new interview. "This was just before it had been released. I guess Kanye had heard it, and I kept trying to get it sent to me. Frank was just starting to blow up. He wanted to be involved in the movie, and then he had Coachella, and then it was 'Saturday Night Live' and his record, and bam, bam, bam. "The Bling Ring" features unruly teenagers robbing the homes of A-list celebrities, so it's only appropriate that the movie's soundtrack presents a lineup of A-list musical acts to underscore the glamorous film.
Sofia Coppola's highly anticipated feature, based on a string of true-life robberies that took place in the homes of Los Angeles celebs, premiered Wednesday at the Cannes Film Festival. The music used throughout comprises a fitting ode to wannabe glamor -- Kanye West's "Power," Sleigh Bells' "Crown on the Ground" and 2 Chainz's "Money Machine" are just a few of the tracks that round out the collection. A track from Coppola's husband's band Phoenix also made the soundtrack's shortlist.

Now that "Spring Breakers" mania has ebbed, it's time for hipsters and cool kids to get excited for the next A24 release about misplaced youth and excess: "The Bling Ring," Sofia Coppola's new film about the infamous Burglar Bunch in Los Angeles.
The bunch -- or Bling Ring, as the title indicates -- were a group of teenager who stole from celebrities like Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan in 2008 and 2009. (Hilton actually makes an appearance in the new "Bling Ring" trailer; Lohan is merely, and memorably, referenced.) Coppola's film re-imagines their exploits with a youthful cast, including Emma Watson as Nicki, a potential onscreen version of Bling Ringer and reality star Alexis Neiers. "Harry Potter" fans expecting a large dose of Watson, however, may be disappointed.
Not that the new "Bling Ring" trailer does anything but put Watson center stage. "I want to rob," she says in the new footage.

Vanessa Hudgens has unzipped a new track called "$$$ex," which was inspired by her newest film "Spring Breakers." That's "sex" spelled with three dollar signs. Harmony Korine's film could essentially be explained in similar terms, though a smiley face would also be acceptable. Hudgens leads with a cheerleader rap that Sleigh Bells would applaud, reporting the mischief that a guy with a "condom in his wallet" gets up to. The themes of girls becoming women, innocence becoming foul play and beauty getting ugly also show up in this blissfully short track; the jump-rope rhymes urges its subject to "stop being so...

Sofia Coppola, we have missed you. After her disappointing, and slow slow slow Somewhere, a juicy teenagers-gone-very-bad story like The Bling Ring is a perfect opportunity for the talented lady behind The Virgin Suicides, Lost in Translation and Marie Antoinette to skillfully, artfully tell the tale of adolescent thieves, with penchants for stealing from the wealthy, young and famous, and the teaser trailer delivers precisely what we were hoping Coppola would give us.
From the flashy neon titles, slow-mo group struts and club scenes where Harry Potter alum Emma Watson gives her best duckface, all set to a throbbing Sleigh Bells song, Coppola is back in her rebellious teen element and despite the almost complete lack of dialogue, we feel appropriately teased and can't wait for more.

Check out the teaser trailer for Sofia Coppola's "The Bling Ring," starring Emma Watson, Taissa Farmiga (Vera's little sister), Katie Chang, Israel Broussard and Claire Julien as a real-life group of La teens who invaded and looted celebrity homes. This first glimpse has Coppola's signature rocker-meets-upper-class-malaise vibe, set to the Brooklyn band Sleigh Bells, and featuring the beautiful young stars grinding at clubs and playing dress-up in stolen bling. Leslie Mann and Gavin Rossdale also star, along with a cameo by Paris Hilton as herself. Watson is shedding her good-girl Hermione image here, which is a trend this spring: Disney darlings Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens are suiting up and getting down in Harmony Korine's "Spring Breakers," hitting theaters March 22. "Bling Ring" has a limited release June 14, via A24.

This is the year of good stars behaving bad. On the heels of "Spring Breakers" -- the A24 release starring Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens, James Franco's cornrows, threesomes, deep-throated handguns and all manner of poor decisions -- comes the first trailer for "The Bling Ring," the Sofia Coppola movie where Emma Watson steals from the rich.
Based on the real-life Bling Ring -- a group of California teenagers who stole from stars like Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan between 2008 and 2009 -- "The Bling Ring" focuses on a group of California teenagers who steal from stars. (The film wound up in the middle of a real-life controversy when an officier involved in the case also acted as a consultant on the project.)
"The Bling Ring" co-stars include Leslie Mann and Israel Broussard, but the real star of the new trailer -- besides that Sleigh Bells music cue -- is Watson.

Please know that this is not the full trailer for Sofia Coppola's much-anticipated (at least by Nicole Richie fans) The Bling Ring, and that it only contains 40 seconds or so of Hollywood teen thief excitement. But yeah, this is exactly what we were hoping for from a Sofia Coppola tabloid extravaganza: loving shots of jewelry and palm trees; a closet full of Paris Hilton (self?-) portraits; Emma Watson making her best duckface for the camera; the classic posse rolling-down-the-street shot; and vodka-bottle sparklers. There's also the inevitable Sleigh Bells song, in case you weren't sure you were in a movie about awful teens. (Isn't it time for a new mean girls music cue? You can do it, indie acts of 2013!) Anyway, consider us onboard.

It looks like young people doing very bad things is going to be recurring theme this year. And the folks at A24 are more than happy to bring it you. Later this month, Harmony Korine and his group of young starlets tear up Florida in "Spring Breakers." Then this summer, Emma Watson joins another group of no good kids to steal and rob in "The Bling Ring" but there's one difference -- this is based on actual events. The first teaser for Sofia Coppola's film is here, and it's a stylistic left turn for the filmmaker. Known for her moodier efforts like "The Virgin Suicides," "Lost In Translation" and "Somewhere," this is pumped up by pushed-to-the-red sounds of "Crown On The Ground" by Sleigh Bells, and with a much more energetic, ripped-from-the-headlines vibe and in-the-moment feel (thanks to the surveillance style footage). You don’t have to throw out Little Feat to make room for Fleet Foxes
Google “ways to discover new music” and no less than 89,800,000 results pop up. Tons of websites, blogs, radio stations broadcasting the old-fashioned way and streamlining online, not to mention music sites like Spotify and Radio Paradise are dedicated to the proposition that all people deserve to discover new tunes.
So why are so many of our needles stuck in the “classic rock” groove, playing the same albums since 1992 -- or 1968? Not that there’s anything wrong with continuing to cherish the music we grew up with. For our generation, it would be hard not to: Some of the most enduring music (at least rock, soul, jazz and blues) was made when we were coming of age. But what I find frustrating is the misbegotten mindset that nothing new is worth listening to.

With a new expanded two-weekend format, a massive new main stage structure, and a big 15th anniversary to celebrate, it was obvious Ultra Music Festival would be going big for 2013.
Instead, it went massive. The just-released Phase 2 lineup reveals Ultra will host its most diverse and thorough lineup yet this March in Miami's Bayfront Park: crowd faves like Laidback Luke, Afrojack, Calvin Harris, and Dirty South are back, but the lineup also includes a slew of live acts including Snoop Dogg and Sleigh Bells.
"What we've achieved with this edition's ocean of talent and stage production is we feel unprecedented," said Ultra founder, CEO and president Russell Faibisch. "As the industry we work in continues to explode, with so much talent emerging and the taste of our consumer changing in the process, diversity was key."

The Big Day Out Festival recently kicked off its five city tour in Australia, bringing bands like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Vampire Weekend, and Animal Collective to Sydney, Gold Coast, Adelaide, Melbourne and Perth. If you didn't already love the giant music event for its indie music support, then be prepared to hop on board the Bdo train. Why? Because the festival is keeping the time-honored tradition of crowd surfing alive.

As you can see, Sleigh Bells' singer Alexis Krauss was the one to brave the Australian crowds, a caption-worthy photo that stands out in this week's Instagigs collection. Among the other amazing images shared with us by our favorite music-meets-art, crowd-sourcing organization are snapshots of Solange in the Netherlands, Christopher Owens (formerly of Girls) in Toronto, and Andrew Bird in Los Angeles.

The first trailer for Pain & Gain with Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson arrived with style, all thanks to the return of the Michael Bay we haven't seen for years. While the director delivered some big blockbuster fun with the Transformers franchise, this film is taking him back to the superior action roots we all love in The Rock and Bad Boys. It looks like a hell of a lot of fun, and reminds us of why Michael Bay had a career beyond transforming vehicles. Now a new TV spot gives us a slightly different glimpse of the film with some dubstep stepping in for that Sleigh Bells track that really made the first trailer pop. Watch below! Here's the new TV spot for Michael Bay's Pain & Gain via MichaelBay.com: Pain & Gain is directed by the one-and-only Michael Bay (Bad Boys I & II, The Rock, Armageddon, The Island, Transformers...

As anyone who lives or works in New York City can attest, "Premium Rush" was a huge pain in the ass. When the movie was filming here, in the summer of 2010, they closed major streets and intersections in the artful pursuit of watching Joseph Gordon-Levitt (or an uncanny stunt double) convincingly zip through the urban canyons of the big, bad city. (Somewhere, George Lucas is watching this movie and thinking about how he could have done it in three weeks on a blank soundstage in some desolate corner of Australia.) But I won't let the movie's "you can't cross here" annoyingness come in the way of this review, as we look at both the pros and cons of this long-delayed Joseph Gordon Levitt thriller, in which he plays a bike messenger tasked with a very, very important delivery. You'll never guess what delivery option they choose… Oh, okay, it's premium rush!

If we’ve accepted, years later, that the world will never see another Sopranos, another Sex and the City, another Lost—hell, not even another Entourage—the TV landmarks of 2012 are the shows that stopped the focus on the past. When the brilliant dangers of Homeland arrived to shore, American Horror Story twisted fiction on its head, and Girls became twee-ly epic in all its polarizing mediocrity, they spearheaded a league of new series that took watercooler debate and discussion back to the main stage, making us fall in love with the small screen all over again. Even if the freshmen had to rival the brutal trials of Breaking Bad and the long-awaited return of Donald Draper’s Mad Men, they’re still responsible for forging new ground, reimaging and reinventing the ways we can be shocked, awed, challenged, gripped, enamored, and moved by television.

A week after Lana Del Rey's infamous Saturday Night Live performance (a fairly disastrous showing that jumpstarted the second national wave of Ldr backlash), SNL attempted to address the controversy with a Weekend Update sketch. Kristen Wiig swanned out onstage dressed as Del Rey and offered the following fake apology: "The music stage on SNL is hallowed ground, and I failed to reach the high bars set by past guests like Bubba Sparxxx, The Baha Men, and Shaggy." The bit was funny (sorry, Baha Men), and not too harsh on Lana, who had surely been attacked enough that week. But the joke was built on a premise that hasn't been true for a while, or at least for the better half of this season, with acts like Del Rey, Sleigh Bells, Karmin, and Gotye taking the main stage. SNL has developed an unexpectedly trendy, Internet-aware musical taste. You could...

I've been a fan of Saturday Night Live for as long as I can remember. There's something about a fresh host and strong cast members that keeps me coming back every week. I know a lot of people have mixed feelings about the show -- some say the quality has declined in current years -- but I don't necessarily agree. I like how some of the cast members get their start on the show and eventually grow into full-fledged comedy stars. I still love past cast members like Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler -- even Kristen Wiig has grown on me in recent years. Of the current cast, Bill Hader is hands down the best there is. There's nothing that man can't do! From Clint Eastwood to his flawless Alan Alda impression to the fan favourite, Stefon, he's a perfect example of what makes the show so enjoyable to watch.

Wasn't it enough that the duo known as Sleigh Bells were already attempting a tricky mixture of sugary pop, indie rock, and dreamy electronic textures on their celebrated debut album? On the followup, “Reign of Terror,” they throw caution and lightness to the wind and toss in considerable dollops of death-metal. Emphasis on the “death.” You might not have guessed it from their reasonably jolly “Saturday Night Live” appearance last weekend, but these indie favorites’ new effort is heavily steeped in concerns of mortality. How morbid is it? Enough so that...

The electro-rock duo performed music from their upcoming album Reign of Terror, including their latest single 'Comeback Kid'. Although Zooey Deschanel delivered a perfectly acceptable performance as SNL host last weekend, many SNL-watchers speculated that this week's host, former cast member Maya Rudolph, would raise the bar. Or at least that she wouldn't, unlike last week's musical guest, Karmin, make people all across America try to give themselves air embolisms by shooting hypodermic needles directly into their eyeball veins. (I dunno, I saw it on Law and Order once so I guess it's a thing.) Last night, Rudolph (with musical guest Sleigh Bells) failed to disappoint. Though her acclaimed Whitney Houston impression didn't make it on the air, her equally acclaimed Beyonce impression did; as did the return of "Bronx Beat," "The Maya Angelou Prank Show," and another installment of the eternally divisive What Up With That? sketch, with a cameo appearance by none other than Bill O'[...]...

Sleigh Bells made their network TV debut on a SNL Saturday night, performing alongside host Maya Rudolph. The synthy rock outfit played two new songs off their forthcoming album, Reign of Terror -- "Comeback Kid" (which we'd heard before) and a mellower number, "End of the Line." The episode made a few topical music references in a skit where celebrities drop by Jay-z and Beyonce's to see Blue Ivy Carter. Most notable was Justin Timberlake's impersonation of Bon Iver's Justin Vernon, which sparked a a schoolgirl reaction from Vernon on Twitter: "holy shit, i was just watching SNL and Jt did a Bon Iver hilarious thing! Also, Maya Rudolph saying "bon iver" is enough. I can die now!!!"

Maya Rudolph was back at studio 8H for "Saturday Night Live" Feb. 18 and she brought with her another familiar face- Amy Poehler. The two revived their sketch Bronx Beat, Amy appeared an "Really? With Seth and Amy" during Weekend Update, and Maya took on both Beyonce and First Lady Michelle Obama.
Plus, the musical guest was a duo called Sleigh Bells. The duo is comprised of Derek E. Miller and Alexis Krauss. They performed "Comeback Kid" and "End of the Line" on "SNL" and have their second studio album due out Feb. 21, titled "Reign of Terror."
Overall, we thought it was a pretty solid episode. What did you think? Which sketch was your favorite?

Saturday Night Live fans are a fickle, often divided bunch. You’re typically either of the variety that believes the show’s heyday has long since passed or you’re part of the group that will staunchly defend the current cast and the show itself until the very end. But it’s not as though those two groups can never intersect or see eye-to-eye on the long-running series. In fact, last night’s hysterical and edgy episode of SNL may have been the ultimate unifier: A fusion of greats from the show’s past effortlessly blending with the new.

There may have been as many real-life celebrities on Saturday Night Live this week as there were parodies of them. Former cast member Maya Rudolph hosted, and was joined by guest stars Justin Timberlake, SNL alumn Amy Poehler, Fox News host Bill O’Reilly, and Sports Illustrated swimsuit model Kate Upton. Sleigh Bells was the musical guest. SNL took the "Linsanity" surrounding NBA star Jeremy Lin to the next level in its cold open. In real life, several sports commentators have been accused of making racially insensitive remarks related to Lin, a Taiwanese-American. On SNL, commentators—two black and two

It’s going to be awfully sweet to hear Don Pardo’s voice call Maya Rudolph’s name once again. Tonight the Saturday Night Live vet is returning to Studio 8H to host the show for the first time since her departure as a full-time cast member. Of course, that doesn’t mean the funny lady hasn’t been seen around SNL in the years since she left to take on the world of movies (Away We Go, Bridesmaids) and sitcoms (Up All Night). Rudolph popped up to sing a Mother’s Day duet with fellow alum Tina Fey when...
