The first time Lisa Smith noticed a lump on her left breast six years ago, she couldn’t let the thought of cancer surface. “I was too scared, too healthy, too strong and with four daughters under eight. After tests revealed her lump was malignant, she underwent two excisions, eight months of chemotherapy, and seven weeks of radiation daily. After her treatment was complete, Smith and her 6-year-old daughter, Mia, started the Make Cents of Breast Cancer campaign, which has raised more than $7,000 for...

Kansas teen Tate Smith's diagnosis of autism at age 2 sent his mother, Lisa, scrambling for answers. But first came the dread. "I saw Tate's future go down the drain right in front of my eyes," the mom of eight tells People. "One of the fears was bullying. How will he be treated at school? Will he be miserable?" Far from it, thanks to Tate's classmates, who for the past five years have formed a club of Tate's peers who take turns sitting with the seventh grader, now 13, during school lunches to patiently talk over topics from movies to video...

After nearly a year of speculation over the whereabouts of missing 20th Century Fox executive Gavin Smith - Did he accidentally drive into a ravine? Did he run away with a lover? - L.A. County Sheriff's deputies finally got a chilling break in the case. Smith's black 2000 Mercedes-Benz 420E was found in a Simi Valley, Calif., storage facility last month. After the car was inspected, police announced that the case had taken a new turn. "The condition of the vehicle in conjunction with cooperating witness statements indicates he was killed," Lt. The case of missing Fox executive Gavin Smith is now being investigated as a homicide after a discovery in a Simi Valley, Calif. storage facility, reports the Los Angeles Times.
Los Angeles County sheriff's investigators found Smith's car, a 2000 black Mercedes Benz, in a storage facility linked to convicted drug dealer John Creech, sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore told the Los Angeles Times. However, no body has been recovered.
"John Creech is a person of interest and has been for several months," said Los Angeles County sheriff's Lt. David Dolson to the Los Angeles Times.
Smith, who was 57 years old when he went missing May 1, 2012, was last seen at his home in Oak Park, Calif. before driving away in his car. Within the first few weeks of his disappearance, his family embarked on a widespread search for him, launching a website, tweeting about the case and organizing search and canvassing parties.

Friends and family of missing Fox executive Gavin Smith canvassed Sylmar, Calif. Sunday, plastering posters of his face and the black Mercedes he was last seen driving on storefronts and restaurants around town.
The family was working on a tip from investigators who had said that a cellphone tower in the area had received the last ping from Smith's mobile phone, reports CBS2.
However, the canvass doesn't indicate a new development in the search for Smith, said Los Angeles Sheriff's Department spokesman Steve Whitmore to the Los Angeles Times. Whitmore told the Times that Sylmar had "no significance" and that "there is no new information," but he did praise the family's continued effort to search for Smith.
In all, about 550 flyers were passed out in the area Sunday, reports City News Service.
Investigators served a search warrant on a convicted drug dealer's house in connection with the search for Smith in June.

Exclusive: There’s a new development in the case of Twentieth Century Fox veteran film distribution executive Gavin Smith who is still missing. I’ve now learned that the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department has officially changed the status of the case from a missing person’s probe to a criminal homicide investigation. My news follows by a day media reports that the search for Smith had intensified and the sheriff’s department has added new resources including more detectives to the probe. But it also contradicts statements by sheriff’s spokesman Steve Whitmore on Tuesday that detectives have not found any evidence of foul play in Smith’s disappearance. There’s been no public announcement about the change in the case’s status, and my insiders don’t know what prompted it. Smith has been missing since May 1st and was last heard from around 9 Pm that evening. The...
