In his final years of high school, he took private singing training under Elizabeth Dilley on the central coast, then continued under the tutelage of Richard Morphew in the Blue Mountains. - I couldn't care less about offending people. To me that means either their basic thought pattern has been jolted and they start thinking differently or, more often than not, that their ego is hurt. Insulting people however, that is very different. That means someone's integrity is hurt, someone's honor is wounded and I will apologize within seconds of insulting anyone in anyway.
- [on directors Michael Bay and Christopher Nolan] Talk about polar opposites, particularly when comes to adapting a franchise. Bay's films are all about exaggerated, nonsensical action and forgetting about character, plot and story to the point of insulting one's intelligence and when it comes his "adaptation" of Transformers: Do not get me started on that betrayal. I felt genuinely wounded by those films, especially Revenge of the Fallen. Words cannot express the disdain I have for those trash heaps! The only thing I liked about those "movies' was Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime. That was the only perfect move Bay made in his entire career from my perspective. I don't know if he's the nicest guy you'll ever meet or a genuine nasty piece of work but in all honesty, I think that not only are most of his films atrocious, but some may even be harmful. Christopher Nolan on the other hand is about story and character first. His films are about making any sort of fantasy as realistic as possible while adding thought provoking commentary, not to mention gorgeous cinematography, beautiful backdrops, brilliant set designs and solid action with purpose. What he did with the Batman franchise is legendary! Christian Bale was very solid in the role of Batman/Bruce Wayne, Liam Neeson was nothing short of brilliant, Anne Hathaway was a happy surprise, Marion Cotillard is always great, same with Gary Oldman, Michael Cane, Tom Hardy, Rutger Hauer, who is very underrated by the way and Morgan Freeman. Then, there was Heath Ledger... GOD! That performance is the paragon of comic book movie villains in cinema! I doubt that will be topped... Period. He took it to such an incredible level that is almost beyond comprehension. I usually feel a little more enlightened after watching a Nolan film. So, yeah, it's pretty obvious who I prefer in terms of story telling and adaptation. One is like an immature child who gets all the toys and doesn't share, while the other is a master who has serious respect for his craft and audience.
- [When asked about how video games make gamers violent and sexist] The exact same way rock and roll music did: Not at all. If you blindly believe that, especially after scientific proof showing the contrary then I'm sorry but you are either stupid or arrogant. I have met and known gamers all of my life. They are just everyday people like you and me. You want to blame people becoming sexist or violent? Then blame their surroundings, their community, their education (by which I mean their religious reinforcement), peer pressure and/or their upbringing. Video games is about escaping into fantasy and having fun, even gaining some kind of insight. Not to mention that most people in general can tell the difference between reality and fantasy, the ones who don't or can't were sick in the head to begin with. Yes there are tropes and all that jazz but One: Same deal with movies. Two: Same deal with books and Three: Same with all forms of art. Video games are just that: An art form. A representation of an artist's perspective. Video games are meant to make you think, reflect and have fun.
- [When asked about understanding what is true and what is a lie.] Actually, it is very simple. There is always one thing to help you understand what is true or not and I can sum it up in one word: *Consistency*. Lies have more holes than a target in a shooting range. The truth however, it is completely solid and unbreakable and always, ALWAYS consistent.
- [About fan made projects] Alright, I'll get this out of the way right now: Yes, copyright is necessary. It's how companies make money and keep millions employed. I understand how a Trademark can be lost if either the pirate is smart enough or company is dumb enough.
That said, fan projects are not piracy at all. They are people who love a franchise and want to do their own thing with it while still being respectful to the owners. Not only are there some REALLY creative people out there, a few companies actually started because of fan projects. Take Red vs. Blue for instance, possibly the most famous machinima ever done. To summarize a really big, inspiring story, Bungie studios (before they became 343) decided to make a deal with the people doing RvB. Some time after that; we now have Rooster Teeth, a production company who not only continued RVB, but also created their own series with so many talented people. RWBY anyone? On that note, RWBY's creator Monty Oum (who is HEAVILY missed) was discovered because of Haloid, a fan made animation involving Halo and Metroid. He also did the Dead Fantasy series and then became part of the RvB series, while also working for other game companies from time to time. Such a magnificent animator and choreographer.
Star Wars fan projects... Just look around, there are several gold nuggets of talent with those. Some fan series even got big name actors involved such as Peter Cullen and Doug Jones. Then there's the brony community with what they do around My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Good... GOD there is talent from all sides! Not only some really good reviewers, but there's everything from song writers to solid fan animations. Of course not EVERYTHING is gold, but there's still a lot of great quality out there.
I honestly believe that fan projects should be given more chances to shine and that companies should look at them as potential collaborators and not threats. I honestly feel that the guy who can lead the charge for a brilliant Legend of Zelda animated series will come from a fan project. Hopefully companies that are opposed to fan projects, like Nintendo and Hasbro currently, will see that fan projects are opportunities not threats. Hell, if I was in charge of Nintendo, I would have made so many deals by now.
