It isn’t every day that you hear the lead star of a vastly popular fan-favorite series is being replaced due to filming schedule issues, Usually, the star and the studio figure out a plan to accommodate everyone’s schedules. However, that is not what happened with Henry Cavill and the Netflix series, The Witcher.

Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher
Cavill’s role as Geralt of Rivia was taken over by Australian actor Liam Hemsworth after the British actor announced on his social media that he would be returning as Superman in the DC Universe. Unfortunately, it was later revealed that Cavill would not reprise his superhero character following the shake-up at DC Studios, with James Gunn and Peter Safran taking over as co-CEOs. With growing popularity and influence in the spy/action genre, there are several Henry Cavill movies you probably forgot the actor starred in. The British actor is currently at the peak of his career, with several calls for him to be cast as the new James Bond. Cavill reportedly got passed over the last time for fellow English actor Daniel Craig because of his young age. However, the silver lining of the rejection opened up opportunities to play Superman (arguably the next best portrayal since Christopher Reeves). Henry Cavill is also known for roles like Charles Brandon in The Tudors (2007-2010),...

Gabrielle Anwar turns 44 on Feb. 4, 2014. To celebrate an actress who has danced with Al Pacino, slept with Superman in the Renaissance and blown up about a million things in "Burn Notice," here are four videos that best show how cool Anwar really is.
The only proper way to start any retrospective of Anwar is with one of her first roles, in the 1991 Disney movie "Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken," which helped catapult her onto the scene.
In her 1992 film, "Scent of a Woman." Anwar and Pacino gave that film a tango for the ages.
Bonus: A very young Chris O'Donnell!
If the tango wasn't sexy enough for you, Anwar's later role on "The Tudors" should help. Anwar played Princess Margaret Tudor on the show and made a great deal of love to Charles Brandon, the 1st Duke of Suffolk -- played by Henry Cavill (later Superman).
Warning: Parts of this video are very Nsfw.

Hooray! It’s great news right? I mean, look at that logo – That’s Exactly what we want from a DC movie, isn’t it? I mean, what can go wrong?
I mean, everyone loved “Man of Steel”…..oh, wait.
I’ll be blunt – the now confirmed team-up movie is only going to work if the strongest features of Batman and Superman films make it in, and some problems from Snyder’s and Nolan’s visions don’t….There’s no doubt this’ll make money, but so did “Man of Steel” – and that left Many fans feeling less than warm and fuzzy about a Superman sequel. If anything, the cynical would say that teaming Batman up with Superman solves the “How do we get people who are jaded to come back?” problem – Because, naturally, there’s no Way they could possibly screw this up……
Of course there is. But...

Martha Thomases’s column on Friday addressed the sexism and gender issue that is suddenly so rampant in the comics medium and its, ahem, sisters, science fiction and gaming, as I did last week – again.
Sexism and gender issues are nothing new to me in my other life as a registered nurse. Do I have to tell you that nurses have been the targets of sexist bullshit forever? (Female nurses, that is. Male nurses are part of the “club.”) However, these days most hospital administrations have strict “zero tolerance” policies, meaning that any type of hostile behavior, including sexism, is not, well, tolerated. And most of them mean it. If it happens, the perpetrator is usually given a choice – attend a proscribed amount of therapy sessions or be fired, although there are several “behaviors” that will cause immediate termination (such as calling your workmate a “fucking Jew,” which happened to...

Henry Cavill Superman: Man of Steel vs. Superman movies of years past [See previous post: "Man of Steel Trailing Original Iron Man in Ticket Sales."] As mentioned in our previous posts, the $225 million-budgeted Man of Steel grossed an estimated $113.08 million this past weekend, including $9 million from Thursday midnight screenings. Directed by Zack Snyder, the 2013 Superman reboot stars Henry Cavill as Clark Kent aka Superman. (Photo: Henry Cavill in Man of Steel.) Released in late June 2006, Bryan Singer’s $270 million-budgeted Superman Returns, starring Brandon Routh as Superman, debuted with $52.53 million, or about $64 million today. Even taking into account that Superman Returns lacked the box-office-boosting advantage of 3D surcharges, Man of Steel is obviously a much bigger hit than its immediate predecessor. Superman Returns eventually reached $200.08 million in North America, plus a slightly more modest $191 million internationally. Man of Steel will not only easily surpass Superman Returns at the domestic box office, but it’ll also earn at the very least twice as much as Superman Returns internationally.

Just a few years ago, just about the only people who had heard of Henry Cavill were fans of Showtime's historical drama, "The Tudors," in which he played Duke of Suffolk Charles Brandon.
But all that changed when Cavill was cast as Clark Kent/Superman in Zack Snyder's reboot "Man of Steel," which finally hits theaters this week. Now all the stars are aligned for the brave new Last Son of Krypton, who's starring in a big film and might already have another big one on the horizon ("The Man From U.N.C.L.E.").

Coming around to save the day in a blur of blue and red, the Man of Steel arrives this year. But, even though he will be the headliner, there is a lot more to Superman than just heroics. Lois Lane has been by the character’s side, enduring successive dangers and reboots. An intrepid and ambitious Lois will be one that can shed some light on Clark Kent as well as hold her own. Now, Amy Adams speaks of stepping in Lois’ high-heeled shoes.
On the “Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” Adams spoke about where her familiarity with DC’s characters came from. “Superman was more my era of comic book than your era,” said the eponymous host. Adams then replied: “I was really into the movies and Christopher Reeves and Margot Kidder.” She continued by saying “I really wanted to be Lois because I thought Superman was just awesome.
