After one of the most shocking episodes of the season, we have an answer about who walked away from American Idol.
Paige Anne returned during Monday's new episode of the ABC reality series.
Naturally, there were questions.
Did someone drop out? Host Ryan Seacrest confirmed what many expected.
"Recently, one of the Top 26 decided to bow out of the competition, so we turned to the judges' first alternate and gave her the life-changing news," Seacrest said during Monday's telecast.
Unfortunately, the show opted to keep that news under wraps until the hopeful in question revealed the news on social media.
It was Beckett Rex!
The son of A Clockwork Orange actor Malcolm McDowell revealed that the decision to leave the show was his own.
"I'm not going to say why I didn't decide to continue in the competition, but what I will say is that it was my choice," he captioned a photo.

ABC’s American Idol 2023 has already had its ups and downs. The season might have some of the best singers yet, but fans have also seen a few jarring forfeits midseason. Two competitors quit during Hollywood Week ahead of Showstoppers. Here’s who left — and here’s the one competitor who nearly quit before returning.
Why did Sara Beth Liebe quit ‘American Idol’? Sara Beth Liebe and Clay Aiken | ABC/Eric McCandless
Sara Beth Liebe wasn’t so sure about American Idol 2023 from the very beginning. She hit the stage during the auditions and impressed the judges with her voice — and she then shocked them when she admitted she had three kids at home. At just 25 years old, Katy Perry went on to make a not-so-subtle joke about Sara Beth lying down for too long, which Sara didn’t like.
During Hollywood Week, Sara broke down completely. She performed “Roxanne...

Any competition must have rules, and American Idol is no exception. From the time contestants audition all the way to the season finale, they must agree to and adhere to a set of rules in order to keep things fair and avoid controversy (although American Idol has had its share of controversies over the years). A handful of contestants have been disqualified in the past for breaking these rules. Here are some examples.
Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Iam Tongi on ‘American Idol’ | Eric McCandless/ABC ‘American Idol’ contestants must be within the age limits
The minimum and maximum age requirements on American Idol have changed over the years. Idol used to be open to anyone between the ages of 16 and 24. Then, the age range opened up, so anyone between 15 and 28 years old could audition.
This is a strict rule on American Idol, so anyone caught lying about their age will be disqualified,...

Her exit left her duet partner, second-chance singer Fire Wilmore, to sing with another contestant who volunteered to take Kaya’s spot. Here’s why Kaya Stewart left American Idol and what she’s been up to since then.

Lionel Richie really did put it best at the end of Monday’s American Idol: “That f–ked me up. I can’t take this.”
The judge was referring to the final duet of Hollywood Week, which was supposed to be a performance of Adam Lambert’s “Whataya Want From Me” between Kaya Stewart and Fire. The catch? Duets require two voices, and only one came to the stage prepared to sing.

“American Idol” may be a platform for aspiring unknown singers to showcase their talent outside of their bedrooms, but some contestants may have an advantage over others: being born into famous families.
Season 21 has already shown several so-called “Nepo Babies” — contestants with ties to the entertainment business — competing for the crown, including Kaya Stewart, daughter of Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics (pictured).
“With all your different opportunities and connections and stuff, how did you even land on ‘American Idol?’” Judge Katy Perry asked before her audition.
It’s a fair question, but “nepo babies” competing on “American Idol” is nothing new. In the past, the offspring of parents with varying backgrounds from music, acting, sports, and politics have all found their way in front of the judges.
Actor Jim Carrey’s daughter, Jane, earned a golden ticket in season 11; Aretha Franklin’s granddaughter, Grace, auditioned last season; and Lara Johnston,...

An aspiring 22-year-old singer named Kaya Stewart recently decided to go about kickstarting her music career the old-fashioned way: by auditioning for American Idol. To accompany her on guitar, she brought along her father, a fedora-clad fellow who just so happens to be Eurythmics co-founder Dave Stewart.
In the clip from Kaya’s Idol episode, the celebrity judges are quick to recognize Dave, who’s done production work for the likes of Mick Jagger, Ringo Starr, and Tom Petty, to name a few. “We were inducted into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame together,” judge Lionel Richie beams. “Just to have you with your daughter I think is so cool.”
Meanwhile, fellow judge Katy Perry seems a little put off by the “nepo baby” stunt, asking Kaya what we’re all thinking: “With all the different opportunities and connections and stuff, how did you even land at American Idol,...
