Two-thirds of ‘Project Runway’ fans agreed with the decision to send Prajje Oscar Jean Baptiste home
Prajje Oscar Jean Baptiste was eliminated from “Project Runway” last week in the flamboyant menswear challenge “Let Me See Your Peacock!” Were the judges right to send him home? About two-thirds of the “Runway” fans we polled after the episode (66.81%) agreed that it was his time to go. Scroll down to see our complete poll results at the bottom of this post.
The challenge in “Let Me See Your Peacock!” was to create men’s red carpet looks that made extravagant fashion statements. Jean Baptiste was eliminated for a look that judge Brandon Maxwell compared to a nutcracker going to a gay club, while Nina Garcia positively hated the copper-colored sheer turtleneck underneath.
SEELaurence Basse’s ‘Project Runway’ designs, ranked worst to best
But this wasn’t Jean Baptiste’s first struggle this season. On the contrary, this was the fifth week in a row that he got a low score from the judges.

Well, it’s been a few weeks since Stephen Colbert assumed command of The Late Show and Trevor Noah has taken the reins of The Daily Show. In both cases the hosts are taking over from prior hosts who had long tenure at their respective shows (David Letterman and Jon Stewart). The new boys have been there long enough now to form some opinions. Admittedly, they’re just my opinions but this is my column.
I want to start with The Daily Show and Trevor Noah. To be honest, this was the one that was of greater concern to me because I really loved watching Jon Stewart. I felt that he (and the show) had an important role on television. It was very funny and had a real point of view and delighted in deflating personalities and kicking other networks and other media up the butt when needed (and it...

Rabbit holes within rabbit holes, the experimental corners of film festivals are zones to lose yourself into. Freed from conventional narrative requirements, they offer different ways of experiencing cinema—unusual textures and rhythms, raw materials molded into perplexingly new compositions, assertive visions that seem to leave iridescent marks on the viewer's corneas. Striking as they are, these avant-garde works often prove difficult to catch in the whirlwind of multiple film programs, leaving the adventurous cinephile to seek these titles on laptop monitors when they should be watched on the big screen for their full, visceral effect. Which makes this week's retrospective of the New York Film Festival's Projections program (sponsored by our very own Mubi) all the more valuable: a chance for audiences to encounter innovative artists and approaches that, as the festival notes put it, “expand upon our notions of what the moving image can do and be.”It's...

Michael Douglas channels his inner bad guy for Jean Baptiste Léonetti's Beyond The Reach, which sees him as a high rolling corporate shark embarking on a deadly game of cat and mouse with his impoverished tour guide (Jeremy Irvine) during a hunting trip in the Mojave Desert. NBA All-Star Weekend kicked off in high gear yesterday, as various celebs from the sports and entertainment world put their athleticism on display in the 2015 Sprint Celebrity game. Kevin Hart, Ansel Elgort, Anthony Anderson, and Common were just some of the names on hand trying to lead their respective team to victory.
The game was played at the world famous Madison Square Garden and was nothing short of entertaining. Nick Cannon squared off with Hart in an old-school dance battle prior to tip-off, Keke Palmer gave an impressive rendition of the National Anthem and there was even a Dave Chappelle sighting. Check out our thoughts on the night, along with some pics and social media highlights.

FX's "Justified" is usually one of my favorite shows on television, but the just-completed fifth season was my least favorite stretch of the show. The Crowe family never clicked for me as major villains the way the show's other big bads have, a lot of time was spent on the bleakness of Ava's life in prison and Boyd's struggles to become a heroin trafficker, and at a certain point I was just waiting for the show to kick off the Raylan vs. Boyd endgame that will be the subject of the final season next year. As I usually do at the end of the season, I got on the phone with "Justified" showrunner Graham Yost, who was good-natured (and good-humored) about discussing a season he knows hasn't been the series' most popular, and who explained some of the ways plans changed over the course of the season. When exactly was...

"Justified" just wrapped up season 5. I spoke with Graham Yost about various storytelling decisions from the year, and I have a few specific thoughts on the finale coming up just as soon as I kill you with both hands cuffed behind my back... Most "Justified" seasons are largely closed entities. Characters and conflicts return in later years, but there have generally been one or two major stories per year — Raylan vs. Miami/Boyd vs. his father in season 1, the Raylan vs. Mags in season 2, Quarles and Limehouse in season 3, the hunt for Drew Thompson in season 4 — that get wrapped up by the finale. "Restitution," though, was as devoted setting up the final season as it was to resolving the matter of those pesky Crowes and getting Ava out of prison. And given how much more compelling I find Boyd as a villain than I do Daryl Crowe Jr., the finale...

Previously on Glee, New Directions prepared for Nationals by saying the word “Nationals” a hundred times a day, while Sue tiptoed around in the background peeking around corners and twirling her handlebar mustache and promising to tie Mr. Schue to some rail road tracks if he didn’t bring home the big trophy. Blaine and Tina and Sam and Artie felt really sad about leaving McKinley, a deep, deep sadness that took root in the choir room and grew a grief tree as big as a Redwood that they watered with their tears and nostalgia all the years of the senior year of their life. And something about something with Marley and Ryder and Jake.
It’s Nationals time, for real, which means Mr. Schue has decided to start doing choir director stuff. His first order of business is to call Sam into his office and tell him he’s the new Finn,...

Glee returned on Tuesday with the annual Nationals episode, this year, titled “City of Angels.” In addition to dealing with the typical angst of the competition, the New Directions honored their late leader Finn, who had been played by Cory Monteith.
'Glee' Recap
“City of Angels” opens with Sam (Chord Overstreet) paying Mr. Shue (Matthew Morrison) a visit in his office. He wants to assure the New Directions coach that though he’s not heading to college and has let his studies slip, he’s as committed to the glee club as ever. Mr. Shue has no doubts about his commitment. In fact, he wants Sam to step into Finn’s shoes as the New Directions captain, as Finn had hoped.
Prior to the team heading to Nationals, Carole (Romy Rosemont) and Burt Hummel (Mike O'Malley) show up to give the group some words of inspiration. For Finn,...

‘RoboCop’ 2014 movie: Full-fledged flop at domestic box office (photo: Joel Kinnaman in ‘RoboCop’ 2014) Directed by José Padilha, and starring Joel Kinnaman and Abbie Cornish, Sony Pictures’ $100 million-budgeted RoboCop 2014 remake opened with disappointing numbers on Wednesday, February 12, 2014. Things improved a bit over the weekend, but there’s no denying that RoboCop 2014 will become a major domestic box office bomb. (See also: José Padilha hates ‘RoboCop’ 2014 filmmaking process.) According to studio estimates found at Box Office Mojo, Padilha’s remake of Paul Verhoeven’s 1987 "classic" (as mentioned elsewhere on this site, just about anything made before 2003 is considered a classic these days) landed in third place this extended Presidents Day Weekend, February 14-17, trailing both Warner Bros.’ overwhelmingly well-received The Lego Movie and Sony Pictures / ScreenGems’ low-budget romantic comedy About Last Night. Justified, Season 5, Episode 5: “Shot All To Hell” Written by Chris Provenzano Directed by Adam Arkin Airs Tuesdays at 10pm Et on FX - Ask and ye shall receive. The first four episodes of Justified‘s penultimate season were mostly fine, but felt a little compromised and slight compared to past seasons, which tended to at least throw in a couple of fun standalones (or near-standalones) while the major elements of the season were moved into place. As it turns out, Justified was saving its energy for “Shot All To Hell,” an incredibly eventful and brutally efficient outing that drastically alters the series’ wider landscape. It’s the most memorable episode since “Decoy,” and that’s saying something. (Chris Provenzano, who gets the teleplay credit this week, happened to co-write that episode, too.)

A review of tonight's "Justified" coming up just as soon as I drop a toonie... "Shot All to Hell" is about 10 minutes longer than the average "Justified" episode. (Though, as a Twitter follower joked, it's what Kurt Sutter would call a "minisode.") It's also significantly busier, and more violent, than normal, with the on-screen deaths of Lee Paxton, one of the Canadian wiseguys(*), Sheriff Mooney, hitman Elias Marcos and Jean Baptiste, with the arrest of Theo Tonin (Adam Arkin finally having the time for a brief appearance in an episode he was already directing), major power moves by Boyd (responsible...

If you’re trying to encapsulate what makes Justified FX’s coolest drama, a good place to start is the fact that Timothy Olyphant’s character, Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens, often seems as entertained by the bad guys as we are. ”It’s always fun to bring in new characters that are so wonderfully specific and full of contradictions and humor — scary and yet so funny,” Olyphant says. “I love when you have characters that seem reprehensible, and at the same time you just love spending time with them.” Season 5, which premieres Jan. 7 at 10 p.m. Et, is overflowing with them.

FX has released the first photos from the Season 5 premiere of "Justified," which takes Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens back to his former home in Florida.
The premiere is titled "A Murder of Crowes" and introduces Raylan (Timothy Olyphant) to his primary nemesis this season: the Crowe family, headed by Darryl Crowe Jr. (Michael Rapaport) and his sister Wendy (Alicia Witt). Darryl had his hands in a number of criminal enterprises, while Wendy, who works as a paralegal, puts a legitimate sheen on the family's dealings.

The Crowes, Raylan’s Florida-based crime family antagonists in Justified’s fifth season, have just grown by two. There are going to be a lot of comparisons made to the Bennett’s from Season 2, but I don’t think they’ll be necessary. From what we’ve seen so far, the Crowes are going to be a completely different kind of problem for Raylan than the Bennetts ever were. I don’t mean to speak down to the Bennetts – Mags Bennett was easily the best villain Justified’s ever had – but it’s important to see there’s a big difference in these two families, even if they both have a bone to pick with a certain Us Marshall.
