With all due respect to everything that made Masters of the Universe so popular during the 1980s, there is no denying the fact that through numerous retellings of the saga, the characterization and narrative treatment have always oscillated between edginess and stagnation. Thanks to the dedicated collectors, the franchise has managed to keep its footing for so long in the pop culture landscape, which otherwise doesn’t allow space for such dated lore, which hardly grew in the span of thirty years. The challenge of exploring new possibilities while remaining faithful to the essence of the source material seemed to be a daunting task, especially when it came time to tackle the He-Man lore.
With Netflix allowing much-needed freedom, Kevin Smith’s Masters of the Universe adaptations finally break the shackles of the franchise’s’ outdated treatment as they manage to strike the perfect balance between new ideas and the original vision of the makers.

One of the defining features of toy line-oriented franchise is that there is no shortage of visually appealing characters. A vast number of behavioral archetypes and appearance combinations ensure a steady supply of characters, targeted to bolster sales numbers while ignoring the quality of the writing behind them. Similarly, one of Mattel’s most popular toy line IPs, Masters of the Universe set in the fantasy-adventure genre, boasts a significant number of key figures which have gone through little to no change since their first appearance during the 80s.

This article contains spoilers for Masters of the Universe: Revolution.
The big twist at the end of Masters of the Universe: Revelation Part 2 was the reveal of Hordak (Keith David), the main villain of the original 1985 She-Ra series. Masters of the Universe: Revolution directly follows on from that, with Skeletor (Mark Hamill) working for and eventually betraying Hordak.
Episode 4 has the two duke it out in a battle right out of kids playtime, with Hordak’s legs even shapeshifting into a rocket. Skeletor manages to gain the upper-hand and seemingly kills Hordak, stabbing him through the heart. That isn’t the end of him, though.
The fifth and final episode of Revolution has Skeletor defeated and Eternia saved. It feels like the show is wrapping itself up, ready to close out this chapter in the Motu franchise. Then, nope, we get a final scene that sends the show hurtling in an incredible new direction.

Plot: The new epic chapter in the battle for Castle Grayskull!. The newly mechanized Skeletor, armed with Motherboard’s might, attacks Eternia’s heart while Prince Adam grapples with a new responsibility and what that means for him as He-Man!
Review: Back in 2021, I gave a glowing review to Kevin Smith’s revival of He-Man. Titled Masters of the Universe: Revelation, the Netflix original was released in two five-episode drops, both of which I loved. A blend of modern animation techniques coupled with a throwback to the Filmation style of the 1980s cartoon, Revelation was blasted online by a vocal minority who disliked Smith’s decision to “kill off” Prince Adam in the first episode and make the series centered on Teela and many of the female characters. By the end of the full series, Smith’s vision came to fruition, even though many fans were not swayed. The second...

“Thanks to the SAG strike, I’m the most famous person here,” joked Kevin Smith at a San Diego Comic-Con panel for Netflix/Mattel’s Masters of the Universe: Revolution.
Smith says that the panel today is different than originally planned, due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, but says the actors are doing what they need to do for their union. “Let’s give it up for unions! We hope that they crush their overlords, like Netflix,” he said quipping about his streaming employer that’s behind the He-Man show.

While Kevin Smith’s Netflix animated series Masters of the Universe: Revelation was envisioned as a follow-up to the 1980s show He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, it also included some nods to the 1987 live-action Masters of the Universe film, including the presence of flying discs, the characters of Pigboy and Blade, and even a line of dialogue that was lifted from the movie. So now that Smith and Netflix are moving forward with the sequel series Masters of the Universe: Revolution, it seems fitting that a cast member from the 1987 film has joined the voice cast. Coming Soon reports that Meg Foster, who played Evil-Lyn on screen in ’87, will be providing the voice of Motherboard, “who is described as “”an ancient sorceress of technology in the fight for the soul of Eternia.”

This looks like pure awesome, and as Kevin Smith has said, it’s the animated series that a lot of us have been waiting on for years now since He-Man and the Masters of the Universe first came around. Seeing the trailer and getting the idea that Eternia is in serious trouble one can’t help but think that the story is already about to kick off in a major way when it hits Netflix on July 23rd. Kevin Smith’s Masters of the Universe: Revelation will kick off a new era for Eternia. It’ll pick up where the original 80s show left off and boasts an impressive cast. Chris Wood is playing He-Man with support from Alicia Silverstone, Kevin Michael Richardson, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Kevin Conroy, Henry Rollins, Tony Todd, Phil Lamarr and Jason Mewes. But the biggest name to sign up is Mark Hamill, coming out of voice acting retirement to portray the villainous Skeletor.
Smith mentioned on his Fatman Beyond podcast that the voice recording sessions for the show were completed last summer, but now it appears that Hamill is back in the studio to lay down more lines as the iconic villain, as you can see below.
As all eyes are on Georgia's crucial election (Please elect @ReverendWarnock & Jon @ossoff)-I'll be recording more #Skeletor w/@ThatKevinSmith for the new @netflix #MastersoftheUniverse-Glad I...

With the ending totally shifting the world of She-Ra, we go over exactly what happened in order to figure out where Season 5 will be going.
This article features nothing but She-Ra Season 4 spoilers. Read our spoiler-free review here.
Phew, have we all recovered from that ending yet? Boy, it took She-Ra Season 4 a few episodes to get going but once it did we got nothing but revelation after revelation about the world of Etheria, Hordak, She-Ra, and Horde Prime. That ending was so intense you may have missed a few details or have a ton of questions. I’m going to do my best to answer them.
What Happened To She-Ra’s Powers?
As Light Hope’s First Ones weapon was activated, She-Ra was being pulled into its power. It seemed that Entrapta was right, that Adora would have no say in being used as its conduit.

The new series, titled “Masters of the Universe: Revelation,” will take place in the Mattel toy inspired world and will focus on some of the unresolved storylines of the classic ‘80s show. Smith will serve as showrunner and executive producer.
“I’m Eternia-ly grateful to Mattel TV and Netflix for entrusting me with not only the secrets of Grayskull, but also their entire Universe,” Smith said. “In ‘Revelation,’ we pick up right where the classic era left off to tell an epic tale of what may be the final battle between He-Man and Skeletor! Brought to life with the most metal character designs Powerhouse Animation can contain in the frame, this is the Masters of the Universe story you always wanted to see as a kid!”

Everyone's favorite internet boyfriend will be transforming from a boy we've loved before to the legendary He-Man.
Back in March, it was reported that Noah Centineo was in talks to star in Sony Pictures and Mattel Films's reboot of the 1987 film Masters of the Universe. On April 29, Centineo confirmed his new role when he stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. When Fallon asked about his upcoming projects and whether or not the rumors were true, the 22-year-old actor happily affirmed that he's set to play He-Man in the hotly anticipated reboot and joked about his affinity for being in his underwear. "I'm very excited!" he added. "It's quite an opportunity."
The original Dolph Lundgren and Courteney Cox-led film stemmed from Mattel's toy line, which also spawned the classic '80s animated TV series that aired from 1983 to 1985. For those who aren't as well-versed in the land of Eternia,...

For years Sony Pictures has been trying to get a new film adaptation of the classic 80s animated series He-Man and The Masters of the Universe off the ground.
They’ve had so many filmmakers attached to the project over the years, but for one reason or another they just haven’t been able to get the film into production.
As of right now, brothers Adam and Aaron Nee are still set to direct the film. They previously made a little indie film back in 2015 called Band of Robbers. Now, there are two new writers who have been hired to help write the script. Those writers are Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, who have written the films Iron Man and Men in Black: International.
The previous draft of the screenplay was written by David S. Goyer, who has worked on several of the DC movie properties.

The He-Man and The Masters of the Universe movie from 1987 with Dolph Lundgren is always worth another look.
Masters of the Universe, the 1987 movie starring Dolph Lundgren that transferred what was at the time one of the most successful toy lines of all time to the big screen, wasn’t as well received as anybody hoped. The modestly budgeted He-Man movie underperformed at the box office, and response was so lukewarm that it’s credited as one of the factors that toppled the Masters of the Universe toyline from absolute mastery of the boy's action figure market to mere afterthought in the space of a year.
Much has been made of the failures of the Masters of the Universe movie, and the disappointment inherent in the decision to set the vast majority of the film on Earth: two teenagers and a bumbling detective are the primary Pov...
