This spring, Largo, Maryland, rapper Q Da Fool was prepping his comeback album after a two-year prison stint. But after only two months home, he was arrested for “promoting violence” after dropping a song and going on Instagram Live. He says his probation officer arrested him and told him they were incarcerating him for his own safety. It’s unclear what the exact charge was, but Q served another two months in jail before coming home again and deciding to overhaul his creative approach into what’s become Art of Ambition,...

One has two degrees from Juilliard, and the other went straight from the streets of Atlanta to the studio, where he helped invent trap as we know it. They come from wildly different musical worlds, but Jon Batiste and Gucci Mane found plenty of common ground when they came together for an onstage discussion at St. Ann’s Warehouse in Brooklyn as part of Rolling Stone’s first-ever Musicians on Musicians live event. Earlier that same day, Batiste scored five Grammy nominations for his latest album, World Music Radio, featuring...

“Morning time, I get on my knees, I pray to Allah/Forgive me for the shit that I did,” harmonizes Lil Durk on “Pelle Coat,” a track from his new album, Almost Healed. The 30-year-old Chicago rapper has steadily gathered momentum ever since he signed with Def Jam in 2013. He’s arguably the most commercially viable proponent of drill music, and that success allows him to float above the noise that roils heated discussions about the homegrown subgenre, even as he navigates the kind of industry bullshit — a long-running beef...

Former student-athlete Saweetie showed her dedication to fitness as she ran sprints in California under the 90-degree sun and wore very little clothing.
An Instagram page called @thebrandengine shared the shots, which Saweetie reposted on her Instagram Story.
The video showed Saweetie rocking tight white spandex, a blue crop top, and a baseball cap as she ran to the end of the palm-tree-lined street.
Fans of the Icy rapper will recognize the backdrop because she frequently shows her sprinting capabilities there.
Even with a heat wave, Saweetie kept cool as she demonstrated her skills and ran down the street.
The granddaughter of Super Bowl-winning NFL player Willie Harper showed the apple didn’t fall far from the tree, especially when it comes to athletic ability.

VH1 has set a Season 16 premiere date for its hit franchise Wild ‘N Out, created and hosted by Nick Cannon. The network has slotted Tuesday, August 10 at 8 Pm Et/Pt for the return of the comedy improv competition series. Following the premiere, new episodes will air every Tuesday and Wednesday night.
Cannon reunited with ViacomCBS in February following his firing in the summer of 2020 over what the company called “hateful speech and…anti-Semitic conspiracy theories.” The two sides reconciled after Cannon apologized and partnered with Jewish leaders to educate himself, and became an anti-hate advocate himself. The remaining episodes of Season 15, postponed by the pandemic, aired in April.
Leading up to the Season 16 premiere, Wild ‘N Out is partnering with technology platform, Stage Ten, for an hour-long live interactive digital special. In the special, fans will be able to connect with the cast via real-time comments and directly impact gameplay through live voting,...

On the one-year anniversary of George Floyd’s murder at the hands of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, Bun B has released “This World,” whose video serves as a capsule of intense, historic protest against anti-black racism.

Since at least 2012, Future has been invoking Pluto, that lonely hunk of ice and rock drifting through the outer limits of our solar system. All at once, Pluto embodies Future’s emotional detachment, his drug abuse, the impossible heights his career his scraped, the emptiness of money, fame, and casual sex, the creative distance he perceives between himself and his peers. Pluto is heaven and hell, to Future what Europa is to Adrian Veidt.

Last summer, you couldn’t walk a block in Brooklyn without hearing Pop Smoke’s “Welcome to the Party” or “Dior” blasting out of an apartment or passing car. Now, five months after the 20-year-old phenom was shot and killed during a home invasion—an incalculable loss for New York rap—he remains the toast of the city. Since late May, his songs have been repurposed as rallying cries at Black Lives Matter demonstrations, for reasons that have to do with both his story and his sound. He grew up...

The song boasts a piano-led pop-soul groove that places Usher’s voice and lyrics front and center: “I cry,” he belts during the hook, “For the sons without fathers/And the pain that their mothers/Hold deep inside/So I’ll fight/For the future we’re making/It’ll change if we face it/’Cause these tears won’t dry.”

I didn’t expect to still be listening to Lil Yachty in 2020. In fairness, it has less to do with him than me: too much of my early career as a music writer was consumed defending the crimson-haired Atlanta rapper from traditionalist critics like Joe Budden in the early era of what eventually would be tagged with disrespectful misnomer of “mumble rap.” Still, the return on investment for Yachty’s music had long begun to wane. It began with the critical derision of his 2017 debut album, Teenage Emotions, which, in retrospect,...

Usher has released a new song, “Don’t Waste My Time,” featuring British singer Ella Mai. The track, co-produced by Bryan-Michael Cox and Jermaine Dupri, is a smooth-talking R&b pop number.
“Good lovin’, no questions,” Usher croons on the hooky track. “Reach out, and you’ll touch me/Bad habits, don’t judge me/Just don’t waste my time.” Mai jumps in midway through the song with her own verse as the pair trade off lyrics.
Usher’s last release was A, an eight-track album he dropped as a surprise last year.
