He wasn’t the first and certainly will not be the last to launch big at Sundance with a directorial debut and then take a bit more time to navigate his way through a sophomore feature — a narrative that Cutter Hodierne would put together while the iron was hot. Following Fishing Without Nets, Hodierne now moves into the murky world of crypto. Anchored by a script penned by John Hibey (a participant in the 2023 Sundance Screenwriting Lab), Hodierne not only directs but also produces alongside Vanishing Angle’s Benjamin Wiessner (known for Werewolves Within) and Hibey. Cold Wallet, a heist thriller, exudes a vibe that seamlessly oscillates between a comedy noir, overt slapstick and the intricate layers of the criminal underworld.…...

“The Beta Test,” the critically-acclaimed indie about the intersection of toxicity in Hollywood and digital culture, has unveiled an anxiety-ridden first trailer.
The IFC Films title, which played the Berlin International Film Festival this year and sits at 100% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, stars Jim Cummings, who wrote and directed the film with Pj McCabe.
The satire follows an engaged talent rep who accepts a mysterious offer to engage in a consensual and anonymous sexual encounter — only to face severe repercussions as his work and home life fall apart in the aftermath. The filmmakers called the project a dark thriller about the problematic nature of the entertainment industry and humanity’s willingness to jeopardize our happiness in small and constant decisions.
The film asks the question “In the age of internet consumerism and digital tracking, does anyone truly have privacy? And can we ever truly rest without having all the answers?...

Exclusive: Michael Chernus has joined the cast in Werewolves Within, the horror comedy being directed by Scare Me helmer Josh Ruben. The film, based on Ubisoft’s virtual reality video game, was adapted by screenwriter and author Mishna Wolff and stars Veep‘s Sam Richardson.
The Werewolves Within game is set in a fictitious medieval town where a werewolf is attacking the townspeople, and players must guess who among them is the werewolf in disguise. The plot of the movie: Shenanigans ensue when a massive blizzard isolates a small Vermont town, causing simmering resentments to boil over as the oddball townspeople are one by one picked off by a mysterious creature.
Chernus will play Pete, who is married to Trish but does not share her beliefs as staunchly. He considers himself a charmer, but just comes off as an overly friendly sleaze who can get a bit handsy especially after a glass of merlot.

Vanishing Angle has boarded Sundance selection “Mope” by Lucas Heyne, which had its European premiere at the Sitges Film Festival in Spain this week. L.A.-based producer, distributor, and sales outfit Vanishing Angle will sell “Mope” internationally. Xyz is handling North America.
The movie played in the Midnight section at Sundance. Set in the porn industry, it is based on real life events. It follows a pair of mopes – slang for low-ranking male actors in the adult film business – played by Nathan Stewart-Jarrett (“Misfits”) and Kelly Sry (“Awkward”). The duo are best friends, but when one of them is fired, he goes on a deadly rampage.
The film covers the true-crime angle but also deals with the emotional toll the porn business takes on its workers. David Arquette stars as Rocket, a leading porn director whom the two aspiring actors idolize.

Beast Beast, the first feature from Danny Madden, took the top prize at U.S. in Progress Paris on Friday. In a statement, the jury (of which I was a member), wrote of the multi-strand story, “The film is a successful attempt to capture the present teenage generation. The director approaches his protagonists with empathy and understanding. The film has a strong political (gun control in particular) and social aspect while remaining an entertaining and creative piece of work.” Beast Beast is produced by Vanishing Angle, and Alec Baldwin is an executive producer. With everything shifting more and more into the digital age, it's increasingly rare to find filmmakers still working on hand-drawn animation in the old-school, flipbook-style method. But that's exactly what the folks at Ornana Films did for their new short film Confusion Through Sand, and the results are absolutely stunning. (We actually featured the trailer for this project nearly a year ago, but now the full project is online for all to see.)
Here's the brief synopsis:
A nineteen year old kid finds himself alone in a hostile desert, scared as hell and trained to react.
I haven't seen American Sniper yet, but I'm hoping that it has the same level of suspense as this does.
After you watch the video, you might be thinking the same thing I did: I wish I could have seen how they worked on this. Well, we're in luck, because they've also posted a behind-the-scenes video,...
