Juan Carlos Ferrá, VFX artist and award winner for Best Visual Effects at the 2021 Canadian Screen Awards, hails from the north shore of Arecibo, Puerto Rico. Born in August 30th 1984, he is the second son of Alberto Ferrá Geyls, a family doctor, and Carme Ramos Medina, a teacher. Juan Carlos has been involved in the film industry for several years, initially as an compositor, and now focusing on cg lighting and emerging immersive technologies.
Star Trek Into Darkness (2013) was his first screen credit recognition as a vfx compositor. He has collaborated in more than fifteen mayor films and counting.
On March 2021, he was awarded Achievement in Visual Effects by the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television for his participation in the film Blood Quantum.
Juan Carlos is an avid creative and experienced sailor. Delivering a racing sail boat from Quebec City to Halifax with Esprit de Corps team in 2018.
