Summer has ended, and school is in session as Quinta Brunson and Abbott Elementary taught a masterclass at the 6th Annual Black Reel TV Awards presented by idobi.
Brunson and her freshman comedy, Abbott Elementary proved that it’s just simple math as they racked up seven wins at this year’s Black Reel Television Awards. She won four awards on her own as she received Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series, Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series for Abbott Elementary and Outstanding Guest Actress for A Black Lady Sketch Show. Brunson triumphed in a surprise upset of the comedy actress category over Issa Rae, the sentimental favorite, in her farewell season of Insecure.
While Glover led the pack in individual nominations with five, he was able to take home one win for Outstanding Actor, Comedy Series for Atlanta.

With the Season 5 — and series — finale of Greenleaf less than a week away, it seems only fitting that the cast would take a moment to rejoice in the OWN drama that made a family of them off screen as well as on. And the actors do exactly that in a new series of mini-interviews released exclusively to TVLine Wednesday.
“I used to want to be a preacher,” says Keith David, whose Greenleaf patriarch, Bishop, ended Tuesday’s penultimate episode looking like he was knocking on heaven’s door. “So this show was a gift to my life.”

Warning: The following contains spoilers for Tuesday’s game-changing Greenleaf. If you keep reading, you’d better pray for the wisdom not to come at us for telling you what happens.
At the start of Tuesday’s Greenleaf, Lady Mae was about as likely to hand over her family’s lavish estate to Tara as I am to give someone, anyone, a sip of my wine. In other words, not very damn. But no sooner had the Greenleafs’ matriarch had a change of heart than she and Bishop made a disturbing discovery that changed… well, everything. Read on, and I’ll explain.

The fifth and final season of “Greenleaf” will premiere June 23, Own announced Tuesday, and the network is also in development with Lionsgate on a spinoff series.
The final season of “Greenleaf” sees the megachurch at the center of the drama in danger of being torn down, in addition to relationships being tested. It is not yet known where the spinoff will pick up, or which characters it will follow, but it will come from “Greenleaf” creator and executive producer Craig Wright.
