The Jellyfish director’s sophomore film is a black comedy that tells the story of two estranged elderly sisters. British director and Nfts alumnus James Gardner is now preparing his sophomore film, a black comedy entitled Grans Gone Wild. His debut feature, Jellyfish, centred on a young carer who discovers she has an unlikely talent for stand-up comedy and was world-premiered at Tribeca in 2018. The flick was very well received, and garnered several accolades at Poznań’s Ale Kino!, Dinard and Edinburgh, among others. It also scooped the Cineuropa Prize at last year’s Mons International Film Festival. Zak Brilliant’s Republic Film Distribution to release title in Feb 2019.
Republic Film Distribution has picked up UK rights to James Gardner’s festival hit Jellyfish from Bankside Films.
The film will have a platform release in UK cinemas from February 8.
Republic is the UK label run by Zak Brilliant, former head of distribution at the now-defunct Icon Film Distribution. Republic also recently handled the UK release of Tom Edmunds’ Dead In A Week: Or Your Money Back.
Bankside has also sealed a UK home entertainment deal for the film with Signature Films. Vertical Entertainment previously bought Us rights.

The Edinbugh International Film Festival (Eiff) has unveiled the line-up of industry events set to take place alongside this year’s festival.
Nine days of events will be held at the Eiff Delegate Centre at the Traverse Theatre from June 18.
Topics to be discussed will range from development and financing through to exhibition and sustainability.
There will be a number of events aimed at offering support and advice to emerging writers, directors and producers including two sessions hosted by partners of the BFI Net.Work looking at progressing from shorts to features.
Representatives from Creative England, Film London and the Scottish Film Talent Network will take part in the events including an opportunity for filmmakers to practice their feature pitch to get feedback on making their future applications stronger.
