Angela Bassett joined the Mission: Impossible franchise as CIA Director Erika Sloane in Mission: Impossible – Fallout. The actress was slated to reprise the role for Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, but was forced to drop out due to Covid-19 travel restrictions. Thankfully, the Mission: Impossible franchise isn’t done with Angela Bassett.
While speaking with Variety on the Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One red carpet, director Christopher McQuarrie spilled a few details on how Angela Bassett would have fit into the new film, while also teasing that we’ll be seeing her again. “It’s interesting, she was going to be the head of the CIA, she was going to be in that room with all the other heads of the intelligence community that you meet,” McQuarrie said. “And we’re not done with Angela Bassett.” McQuarrie continued, “Angela is too fabulous. Tom Cruise and Hayley Atwell in ‘Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning Part One’ from Paramount Pictures and Skydance
Naming the big bad “The Entity” is a dead giveaway that plot isn’t going to matter as much as the spectacular action sequences in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One. And unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know Tom Cruise has put his body through hell to pull off the seventh Mi film’s insane action scenes. Cruise’s efforts pay off big time in one of the best entries in the blockbuster franchise.
But about that plot… Ethan Hunt (Cruise) is tasked with recovering a key that controls The Entity, an artificial intelligence that has become sentient. The Entity began with controlling social media and moved on to attacking governments across the globe. But that’s small potatoes compared to its ultimate goal: world domination.

Tom Cruise is used to going to extremes to thrill audiences with the bombastic action of the Mission: Impossible franchise, but how long can he cheat death by repeatedly playing MI6 agent Ethan Hunt? If Cruise has his way, he’ll laugh at the Grim Reaper’s boney face alongside the withering visage of Father Time by defying the odds for years to come. Forever the goal-oriented actor, Cruise says he wants to walk in Harrison Ford’s shadow by playing Ethan Hunt until he’s the Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny actor’s age.
“Harrison Ford is a legend,” Cruise told The Sydney Morning Herald while walking the red carpet on the Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One premiere. “I’ve got twenty years to catch up with him.” While Cruise has played Ethan Hunt for over twenty years, Ford still plays Henry Walton “Indiana” Jones Jr.

When it comes to screen tests, most involve the actor(s) performing a scene to the camera. Some, like the recent Superman: Legacy screen tests, also involve full costume and makeup, but when it comes to the Mission: Impossible franchise, they want to make sure you can keep up with the action. Hayley Atwell revealed to The Telegraph that her screen test for Grace in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One was two hours of stunt choreography.
Hayley Atwell performed her Mission: Impossible screen test with stunt coordinator Wade Eastwood, which she said involved “two hours of stunt choreography just to see where my natural abilities lay.” Atwell continued, “We did an unarmed combat sequence and mixed martial arts to see if I was someone who could grapple and trap or someone who was more into high kicks. [It’s to] ascertain my natural style.“

The newest adventure of Ethan Hunt and his Imf comrades will be making its way into theaters in a couple of weeks. Recently, Tom Cruise and his frequent collaborator, Christopher McQuarrie, are championing the theater-going practice and good ol’ fashion cinematic experiences as they encourage audiences to see both Oppenheimer and Barbie to support theaters. This is in addition to their determination to give movie-goers the most thrilling entertainment for their latest outing, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One. The new featurette takes you behind the scenes of another giant set piece involving a little-known extreme sport called Speedflying. It’s both exactly as it sounds and exactly what you’d expect from Cruise and Company.

“Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One” director Christopher McQuarrie made headlines at the start of June after revealing to Empire magazine that Tom Cruise’s insane motorcycle stunt was shot on the first day of filming. The stunt, billed as the most death-defying one of Cruise’s acting career thus far, finds Cruise riding a motorcycle off the edge of a cliff and then parachuting to safety while in free fall.
“Doing that on day one gave us all the time in the world to understand why he [Ethan] was doing what he was doing,” McQuarrie told the publication. “If we sat around and tried to figure out these movies the old-fashioned way, you’d never find it, simply because it’s such a living, breathing thing.”
For Tom Cruise, however, there was a far more practical reason for putting the motorcycle stunt on the first day of the “Mission: Impossible 7” shoot.

This time, the crew will have "to track down a terrifying new weapon that threatens all of humanity before it falls into the wrong hands," the official synopsis reads, per Deadline. "With control of the future, and the fate of the world at stake, and dark forces from Ethan's past closing in, a deadly race around the globe begins. Tom Cruise talked emotionally about his love for big-screen movies and dove deep into the philosophy of global cinema during an interview with Deadline on the red carpet Monday in Rome where he attended the world premiere of Paramount and Skydance’s Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One.
The event took place on the Spanish Steps of the Italian capital, where much of the latest franchise installment takes place, and fitting because of the value Cruise places on overseas markets for his movies, saying, getting emotional as he described the “artform” and how it “bridges walls, it breaks them down and allows people to be able to share that kind of commonality and experience.”

The Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One premiere is happening in Rome this afternoon, with stars, filmmakers, and press gathering to celebrate the latest chapter of the action-packed blockbuster franchise. After posing on a red carpet along the Spanish Steps, Dead Reckoning director Christopher McQuarrie began fielding questions from excited press members. Speaking with Deadline, McQuarrie commented on the likelihood of directing a film in the James Bond franchise one day.
“I like watching James Bond movies,” McQuarrie said when asked if he’d be game to help create a film in the famed 007 franchise. “The fun of those is going and getting to actually sit down and watch them, and not worry about whether or not I messed it up. I just enjoy watching them.” Adding to the conversation, McQuarrie says writing the movie and directing might not sweeten the pot. “That would come in handy,” McQuarrie said about writing the film.

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One writer/director Christopher McQuarrie describes the new Mi film’s Rome chase scene as more ambitious and unpredictable than any car stunt they’ve previously shot. The two-minute behind-the-scenes featurette shows just how incredibly difficult the car chase was to shoot, especially given that it was all done practically.
“It all comes down to one thing: How do we involve the audience? I just want to give them that thrill,” explains franchise star Tom Cruise.
Part of lengthy chase scene involves Tom Cruise and Hayley Atwell handcuffed together while they’re being pursued, which meant that Cruise had to drive one-handed. “Tom driving and drifting one-handed through the streets of Rome… That was a day I’ll never forget,” says Atwell.

Ethan Hunt’s next mission is going to cost him dearly.
The new trailer for Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning: Part One reveals more of what Tom Cruise has in store when he returns to the Imf agent role he originated in 1996.
The seventh installment in the billion-dollar action-spy franchise returns familiar faces and sees Cruise perform more high-octane stunts. After hyping up the sequel with a 20-minute scene at CinemaCon — which included a chase sequence involving Cruise being handcuffed to co-star Hayley Atwell as they flee the police and others out to get them — the latest preview shows the action star speeding off the edge of a cliff full throttle on a motorcycle, engaging in a knife fight atop a speeding train, and then hanging on by a thread as a train car nosedives into the water below.
“Your life will always matter more to me than my own,” Ethan...

The official trailer for Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One is out, and Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt is off and running again.
Directed by Christopher McQuarrie, the latest installment in the Mi franchise finds Hunt and his Imf team embarking on what the synopsis tells us is their most dangerous mission yet: “To track down a terrifying new weapon that threatens all of humanity before it falls into the wrong hands.
“With control of the future,” the synopsis continues, “and the fate of the world at stake, and dark forces from Ethan’s past closing in, a deadly race around the globe begins. Confronted by a mysterious, all-powerful enemy, Ethan is forced to consider that nothing can matter more than his mission – not even the lives of those he cares about most.”
The new film, in theaters July 12, stars Cruise, Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson,...

Tom Cruise continues to defy the laws of physics for entertainment value in the new trailer for “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One,” the seventh installment in the spy-action franchise that ups the ante with each successive film.
The action set pieces — largely practical — are the centerpiece of each “Mission” movie: in the first film it was Ethan Hunt dangling over a computer, “M:i 2” was Cruise climbing a cliff-face, “M:i 3” had the bridge attack, “Ghost Protocol” saw Cruise hang off the tallest building in the world, “Rogue Nation” put Cruise on the outside of an airplane while it took off, and “Fallout” had a nail-biting skydiving sequence.
So what’s on tap for “Dead Reckoning Part One?” For starters, Cruise jumps a motorcycle off a cliff. But then there’s what looks to be the major set piece: a massive practical train action sequence.

Paramount Pictures has released a new trailer for “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One,” teasing Tom Cruise’s seventh, and likely penultimate, mission as Imf agent Ethan Hunt.
In addition to Cruise, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Henry Czerny, Vanessa Kirby and Frederick Schmidt reprise their roles from previous “Mission: Impossible” films. “Part One” also stars series newcomers Hayley Atwell, Pom Klementieff, Cary Elwes, Rob Delaney, Indira Varma, Shea Whigham, Mark Gatiss, Esai Morales and Charles Parnell.
The first trailer for “Dead Reckoning” included a shot of Cruise driving a motorcycle off a cliff. Paramount Pictures offered a deeper look at the impressive stunt with a behind-the-scenes featurette released in December.
One of the crown jewels of Paramount Pictures, the “Mission: Impossible” films have grossed over $3.5 billion at the worldwide box office since launching in 1996. After hitting a low with 2006’s “Mission: Impossible III,” which earned only $398 million worldwide,...

Another day, another death-defying stunt. Tom Cruise has probably heard all our jokes about how he apparently has a death wish, pushing the absolute limits of common sense and safety with each and every "Mission: Impossible" film. Now, we've somehow ended up in a place where driving a motorcycle off a massive ramp and into thin air hundreds of feet up with only a parachute to save his life simply feels ... expected. Hollywood is probably the definition of a "Well, what have you done for me lately?" business, and there's perhaps nobody on the planet more aware of this fact than our resident thrill-seeking A-list actor.
With "Top Gun: Maverick" behind us and the rave reviews for "John Wick: Chapter 4" crowning a new action champion for 2023 (so far), "Mission: Impossible" will truly have to bring the goods.
It's been quite some time since we received our first official look...
