“The Idol,” the controversial HBO series set to star pop sensation Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye, grows nearer. And after the announcement that the series would premiere out of competition at next month’s Cannes Film Festival, The Weeknd has started previewing music from the show, performing a new track (“Double Fantasy”) at Coachella last night and on his Instagram two days ago (where he can be seen working on the orchestra intro for the song). Ready or not, “The Idol” is coming.
The Weeknd wasn’t even on the bill for Coachella but popped in during Metro Boomin’s set on Friday. Mike Dean, the influential record producer (who also has a role on “The Idol”), was also on hand to play saxophone on “Double Fantasy,” which is the first substantial new Weeknd music (outside of his track for “Avatar: The Way of Water”) since he released his brilliant album “Dawn F.

Just over a month removed from the announcement of his upcoming album, PARANOÏA, Angels, True Love, Chris came to The Late Show with his signature sense of craftsmanship. After weeks of speculation, Cannes Delegate General Thierry Frémaux confirmed Thursday morning that Sam Levinson’s Euphoria follow-up The Idol will screen out-of-Competition at the festival.
Frémaux said he expects to see lead actor and co-creator Abel Tesfaye, who performs music as The Weeknd, on the Croisette for the premiere alongside co-star Lily-Rose Depp. The Starboy singer, Frémaux said, is a regular at the festival and has often traveled incognito to screen films playing in Competition.

The new video for the Weeknd’s song “How Do I Make You Love Me” includes the perfect ingredients for a nightmare: a giant moth, falling limbs, sewage exploration, and suicidal building jumps. The singer released the Dawn FM favorite’s animated visual Friday, along with a remix by Sebastian Ingrosso and Salvatore Ganacci.
The creepy video — written by the Weeknd, Cliqua, and Jocelyn Charles, and directed by Jocelyn Charles — follows a character (seemingly the Weeknd) in a hospital room, running from hospital staff as they pull one of his...

Christine and the Queens have released the spiritual sequel to their 2020-defining “People, I’ve Been Sad”: “Je Te Vois Enfin” whose title translates to “I Finally See You.” The track, which Chris sings entirely in French, is more upbeat than “People” with jittery synths soundtracking her layered vocals. Some of the lyrics translate to “My love rhymes with always” and “Oh, my love, here you are/I finally see you.”
The song was “imagined, written, produced and performed by Christine and the Queens,” the brainchild of French singer Hélöise Letissier,...

Imax grossed $95,000 live simulcasting the Kanye West (with special guest Drake) benefit concert at the L.A. Coliseum to 35 Imax theaters — a one-night event Thursday that included seven sellouts despite being available to stream live on Amazon Prime. The show, Imax’ first live concert event, comes as the large format exhibitor experiments with content to attract new audiences.

Social media lit up with videos reposted by Kanye’s Donda production company, his producer Mike Dean, and NYC’s Hot 97 radio, among others. If the question was whether the experience translated well to the theatrical environment, it did, said Megan Colligan, Imax exec VP and president of entertainment. “We are not a big television set.
