Ariana Grande is an influential figure in the music industry, and her ability to sing across four octaves of vocal range sets her apart from the rest of her peers. The pop star has released seven albums in her career, with her latest set to be released on March 8th, 2024, i.e., today. Grande often takes inspiration from her life, experiences, and pop culture. Her new album, Eternal Sunshine, is no different in this regard.
Interestingly, the name of Ariana Grande’s new album pays homage to one of Jim Carey’s iconic movies. Over the years, Carey has delivered some memorable films; unsurprisingly, one holds a special place in the Dangerous Woman singer’s heart.

With his Instagram posts of old Thrasher magazine covers, flyers of seminal post-hardcore group Jawbox, and pictures with Neko Case, Matt Jencik is not your stereotypical Taylor Swift target. The 50-year-old, long-haired, bespectacled longtime buyer for Chicago’s legendary Reckless Records admits he’d probably be listening to Van Halen at home. But in records stores like Reckless and around the country, things have changed drastically.

“Gang shit, I invented that, huh?” asks Schoolboy Q on “Pop,” a track from Blue Lips, his first album in nearly five years. It’s clearly an overstatement. But give the former Hoover Street Crip credit: Back in the early 2010s, he fused the open-eared, genre-less sensibility of Tumblr rap with vintage L.A. gangsta flows in classic moments like “Hands on the Wheel” and “Druggys Wit Hoes Again.” Along with Vince Staples, Boogie and others, Q marked a clear break from the city’s G-funk identity, even as he...

In one of the best episodes of The Vince Staples Show – a dark Netflix comedy following the fictionalized life of the titular rapper – Vince slowly but surely leverages a bank robbery he’s caught in the crosshairs of to his advantage. Perhaps this quiet doggedness is autobiographical; in reality, Vince Staples has been actively trying to produce his own television show for about eight years, finally getting it over the line with its Feb. 15 premiere.

Vince Staples, the young and talented American rapper and singer, has been making waves in the music industry with his unique style and thought-provoking lyrics. Born Vincent Jamal Staples on July 2, 1993, in Compton, California, he later moved to North Long Beach to escape the high crime rates of his hometown. Growing up in poverty, Staples found solace in music and sports, ultimately paving the way for his successful career in the entertainment industry.
Staples had a challenging upbringing, but he found refuge in academics and extracurricular activities. He attended Optimal Christian Academy during his formative years, where he had a positive and influential experience. However, he moved around frequently, attending several high schools in different cities, such as Jordan High School in Long Beach, Mayfair High School in Lakewood, and Esperanza High School in Anaheim. Sydney – Monday 6 November, 2023. The Sydney Opera House today announced two electrifying contemporary music events over summer with genre-raiding psych-rockers Unknown Mortal Orchestra making their Concert Hall debut on January 30, and alternative R&b star Steve Lacy performing two shows in-the-round on 31 January and 1 February 2024.
Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s (Umo) appearance follows the March release of their definitive fifth album, V – an exquisite collection of songs that evokes the 70s rock and 80s pop of frontman Ruban Nielson’s childhood, while exploring love, loss and his Hawaiian heritage. The album makes a strong case for itself as his sun-bleached masterpiece, earning a 4.5 star review from Uncut and a place on The Guardian’s ‘best albums of 2023 so far’ list.
Umo initially achieved runaway success following the covert release of an anonymously penned track, ‘Ffunny Ffriends’, on Band Camp (2011). They’d go on to release five albums over the next 12 years, each...

Grande was first linked to Gomez at the beginning of 2020, and they got engaged after less than a year together later that December. The singer and real estate agent then got married on May 17, 2021, in front of less than 20 guests in an intimate ceremony at their home in Montecito, CA.
Throughout their relationship, the couple kept their romance relatively quiet compared to Grande's previous high-profile romances with the likes of Pete Davidson and Mac Miller, so fans are understandably surprised by the most recent development in their relationship - especially after it was reported that Grande has begun a new romance with her "Wicked...

Five years ago today, the world lost Mac Miller at 26. Five years ago Wednesday, I lost my brother Christian at 21. In 2018, I worked for another outlet, and I learned about Mac passing while checking Slack in an attempt to briefly take my mind off the motorcycle accident that took my brother. But I was just inundated with more death.
At the time I pondered writing about whatever symmetry I could think of to get my mind off things. My brother was a rapper like Mac. They were both way too young.

Before Justin Bieber's "Journals," there was Ariana Grande's "Yours Truly."
It was Aug. 30, 2013, and Grande - who rose to fame on Nickelodeon's "Victorious" and "Sam & Cat" - suddenly emerged as a musical superstar with her debut album. Thanks to her dreamy voice and impressive range, the budding phenom, who was then 20 years old, proved she was so much more than just a teen star.
The album was a testament of how '90s R&b, hip-hop, pop, and doo-wop can complement one another. Paired with production by Babyface, The Rascals (Leon Thomas III and Khris Riddick-Tynes), Antonio Dixon, Harmony Samuels, Tommy Brown (aka TBHits), as well as cowriting credits from the aforementioned and Victoria Monét, Sevyn Streeter, Jordin Sparks, and Priscilla Renea (now Muni Long), "Yours Truly" was an instant victory. This dream team fused Grande's instinctual talent and musical theater background to formulate an untapped side of her artistry,...

Ariana Grande paid a subtle tribute to her late ex-boyfriend, Mac Miller.
Upon Friday’s release of the deluxe edition of her debut album Yours Truly for its upcoming 10th anniversary, Grande also put out visualizers for the new live versions of her songs, including “The Way” — her first collaboration with the late rapper.
Throughout the video for the new version of their hit collab performed “Live from London,” a simple moving image of the Yours Truly (Tenth Anniversary Edition) album cover appears while different elements of the clip fade out, but never the words “Feat.
Mac Miller.” At the end, Grande, 30, honours Miller one last time as everything fades out to a black screen except for Miller’s name which glows in white.

Another hypnotizing animated music video to enjoy as part of our short film collection. This video is for a track from American rapper Mac Miller titled The Star Room. It's pretty trippy, following a character on a journey. "The storyline begins & ends with a candid embryo-like character, showcasing their growth and transformation through diverse landscapes and encounters." Director Danaé Gosset explains: "My goal was to capture the essence of a transformative journey while maintaining a childlike curiosity towards exploring different worlds." She also says she was inspired by Moonrise Kingdom, because the song takes a sample from the film's soundtrack. "To bring the video to life, we meticulously crafted a hand made layered collage-like technique. We employed a diverse range of physical mediums such as paint, color pencils, gouache, and more." My fave one is the big furry dude, and the super hairy dog creature thing. So much creativity in this.

Music sensation Ariana Grande and her husband, Dalton Gomez, are reportedly calling it quits. The couple remained quiet about their two-year marriage, but recent reports suggest they’re headed for divorce. So, what led to Ariana Grande and Dalton Gomez divorcing? Here’s what to know.
Why are Ariana Grande and Dalton Gomez divorcing?
Ariana Grande and Dalton Gomez are headed for divorce after two years of marriage — and it seems physical distance between them became the main issue. While Grande and Gomez lived together in Los Angeles, their careers pulled them in separate directions. Grande headed to England to film Wicked, and the distance between them became too much to handle.
“She was happy in Los Angeles for a couple of years,” a source explained to People. “She wanted to make a life there with Dalton.”

Ariana Grande and her husband Dalton Gomez have decided to end their marriage.
The two reportedly split earlier in the year and are focused on their friendship. They were already having problems with their marriage, which was only exacerbated when she left for London to film Wicked. Their differences are said to be unreconcilable.
Grande was spotted on Sunday at Wimbledon without her engagement ring and wedding band, sparking split rumors. She posted a series of photos of her at the event with co-star Jonathan Bailey and friend Andrew Garfield.
Last year, Grande was similarly seen without her ring in a TikTok video, but she clarified immediately that, she was “not getting a divorce,” but she was simply getting it cleaned.

The Amazon Prime Video series “The Summer I Turned Pretty” has made a splash with its loaded soundtrack. By now it is safe to say that “The Summer I Turned Pretty” and Taylor Swift go hand in hand because author and show creator Jenny Han has made it so.
The first season had five Swift songs ranging from her “Lover” album to “Fearless (Taylor’s Version),” and the Season 1 trailer debuted “This Love (Taylor’s Version)” from the yet-to-be-released re-recorded “1989.” Season 2’s teaser was set to “August,” and then the official trailer debuted “Back to December (Taylor’s Version)” shortly before “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)” was released July 7. Only time will tell if Season 2 ties Season 1 for how many Taylor Swift songs it contains.
The sequel season’s summer-y soundtrack also contains hits from repeat artists Olivia Rodrigo, Tyler the Creator, Caroline Polachek and more. A Fleetwood Mac ballad punctuates a particularly emotional scene,...

Jenni Rivera’s children always wondered what sort of music their mom left behind after she tragically died in 2012. What would her music sound like if she was still alive today? What would she have wanted her legacy to be?
Months ago, Rivera’s youngest child Johnny made it his goal to find the original files of some of the recordings he knew she’d stored in her hard drive.
“It was just me and my laptop and the hard drive for two days,” Johnny tells Rolling Stone.

Mac Miller’s sophomore album Watching Movies With the Sound Off turned 10 this week, and in honor of its anniversary, the late rapper’s estate and Rostrum Records have released a special 10th anniversary edition of the LP.
Featured on the album now is the original version of opening track “The Star Room,” titled “The Star Room (Og Version).” Miller had previously shared this version on SoundCloud in 2014. It features a different beat than the take that appeared on the album and also does not feature Miller’s alter ego Delusional Thomas.

On Tuesday, Billboard published a piece speculating on why hip-hop hasn’t had a Number One album or single within the first half of 2023. The report set off a flurry of chatter from industry observers and rap fans drawing their own conclusions as to what the answer might be. Is the dearth of rap hits this year a matter of market share, artist deaths, incarceration, or stagnant charts?
Most people who think the occurrence is no big deal are chalking it up to a lack of releases by major rap stars.

Demi Lovato has revealed that the reason they re-adopted she/her pronouns in 2022 was because educating people on they/them pronouns became “absolutely exhausting.”
In a new interview with GQ Hype Spain, the 30-year-old singer, songwriter, and actor explained that they are comfortable with either she/her or they/them, but that using solely they/them grew to be too much of a burden at times. “I constantly had to educate people and explain why I identified with those pronouns,” they said. “It was absolutely exhausting. And that is one of the reasons that have led me to also feel comfortable with the feminine pronoun.”
Since first coming out as non-binary in 2021, Lovato has been one of many artists championing freedom of gender expression, but prevailing cultural norms make it an uphill battle. Beyond the obvious stressors of fame in a situation like that, Lovato explained that even everyday instances...

Across his two blockbuster albums, Jack Harlow had all the elements of pop-rap superstardom on full display — the chameleonic swagger, the everydude sincerity evidenced by his affinity for namechecking chain restaurants, the puppydog hearththrob confessions, and the phone numbers of the most famous guest rappers in existence. He had enough skills to get the co-sign from Kanye West and Drake, and the pop acumen to land a Number One Billboard single. However, if you could level one criticism of the Jack Harlow catalog, it is that, conceptually, he could occasionally be a juicy Kentucky nothingburger.

Maybe it’s the sneaking sense that artificial intelligence might upend this (very flawed) digital utopia as we know it, or maybe it’s the lingering uncertainty of the pandemic. Either way, the world online right now feels like it’s on the edge of a significant change, which might explain why we’re so obsessed with discussing the Internet of yesteryear. Winning the Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Album is a huge deal. The category has been consistent in rewarding the biggest pop star of the year in most years, from two-time winners Adele and Kelly Clarkson to Harry Styles, Bruno Mars, and Taylor Swift. So it’s no surprise that one of this generation’s leading vocalists has also claimed the award: Ariana Grande, who won for her 2018 effort, “Sweetener.” Grande is a consistent nominee in the category, with all her albums except her debut receiving at least two nominations in the pop field. But what made her 2018 record the one to finally get her a long-awaited Grammy win, especially with heavy competition from previous winners like the aforementioned Swift and Clarkson?

Some years there’s no clear favorite to win Best New Artist at the Grammys and you get complete and utter chaos trying to predict the category (kinda like this year). Other years, though, it feels like everyone in the industry is unanimously riding behind a breakout talent and the win is pretty much locked from the start. We’ve seen it with artists like Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo, but don’t forget about Chance the Rapper in 2017. His Grammy victory for Best New Artist was so assured that he led Gold Derby’s odds with almost three times as many users predicting him as his closest competitor. Everyone knew it was Chance’s moment to shine that year, but how did he go from a viral sensation to a three-time Grammy winner seemingly with such ease?

“What young people want from pop culture isn’t what old people want from pop culture,” New York Times pop music critic Jon Caramanica observes in Justin Staple’s documentary “American Rapstar.” The film charts the rise of a generation of lo-fi rappers buoyed by the advent of online streaming platform SoundCloud, founded in 2007. Smokepurpp, Lil Xan, and Bhad Bhabie are among the (living) talking heads, while deceased rappers XXXTentacion and Lil Pump also get a spotlight as the feature dives into the substance-abuse epidemic plaguing the scene — from popping Xanax to the more serious, very often fatal fentanyl. Director Staple’s film introduces a lot of big ideas, mostly successfully, from indicting Big Pharma for encouraging pill addiction to the generational divide between the hip-hop artists who came of age in the early 1990s to today’s primarily internet-driven base. While a straightforward documentary in the classic sense, it...
