This marks the fourth year that the entire membership of the academy can take part in the nomination stage of the Animated Feature Oscar race. Previously, only select members of the Short Films and Feature Animation Branch and invited members from the other branches could serve on the committee that decided the nominees. Chris Weitz ("About a Boy," "The Golden Compass") is set to direct an English-language remake of Takashi Miike's 2013 Japanese thriller "Shield of Straw" for All Nippon Entertainment Works and Nippon Television.
The story follows a team of five police officers charged with protecting an accused killer who has been marked for death by the billionaire grandfather of his latest victim.
