Denis Villeneuve has been celebrating the upcoming release of “Blade Runner 2049” all month long with the release of short film prequels that help bridge the thirty-year gap between Ridley Scott’s original and his highly-anticipated sequel. Ridley’s son, Luke Scott, directed the first two short films, the Jared Leto-centric “2036: Nexus Dawn” and the David Bautista-starring “2048: Nowhere to Run,” but Villeneuve has recruited Japanese anime master Shinichirō Watanabe to helm the final prequel, “Blade Runner Blackout 2022.”

Watanabe is famous for directing the successful anime series “Cowboy Bepop” and “Samurai Champloo,” and he’s joined by experimental musician Flying Lotus who handles the score. The short film also features additional music by Gerald Trottman, Kuedo and Miguel Atwood-Ferguson. The story depicts the lead up to a blackout that led to the prohibition of Replicant production.

We've got a new Blade Runner 2049 short film for you to watch today called 2048: Nowhere To Run. The short centers on Dave Bautista's character, who is an outlaw replicant named Sapper.
The short was directed by Ridley Scott's son Luke Scott, and it follows Sapper in the year 2048 as he goes out into the streets to sell some replicant leeches. While he's out in Los Angeles doing his business and mother and her child come under attack by a group of thugs and he goes ballistic and beats the shit out of them.
This is the second of three short films that will be released. They are being made to offer us insight into some key events that happen between 2019 and 2049. To watch the first film in the series click here.
I love these short films and I can't wait to see what the final one in the series will entail.

Warner Bros. has released an official short prequel film for Blade Runner 2049 that you're going to want to watch! The short is called Nexus: 2036 and it's set in the year 2036.
The story centers around Jared Leto's reclusive genius and scientist character, Niander Wallace. In it, he introduces a new line of replicants that he created called the Nexus 6. This is supposed to be a "perfected" replicant model and he is looking to get the prohibition on replicants repealed. This replicant can be completely controlled by humans and it seems to have no free will.
Wallace presents this new replicant to the powers at be to have the prohibition on replicants lifted, but they seemed to be horrified by the events that unfold at the meeting. This will obviously have serious ramifications that will play a major role in the plot of Blade Runner 2049. If you want to see what exactly happens,...
