In an interview with the New York Times last September, actor-filmmaker Elizabeth Banks shared a piece of career advice from Lorne Michaels that’s been of enduring value to her.
“Don’t do things unless you think they’ll be part of the cultural conversation,” Banks recalled the SNL boss saying. “I’ve tried to make choices based on that. I’m getting older, and I want to stay relevant and be in the conversation.”

Peacock has given a straight-to-series order to a drama from The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon co-ep Tara Hernandez and Damon Lindelof.
The pair are making ten-episode series Mrs. Davis for the NBCU streamer.
The series is an exploration of faith versus technology — an epic battle of biblical and binary proportions, although plot details are being kept under wraps.
Deadline understands that the series, which was pitchd across town including at HBO, home to Lindelof’s The Leftovers and Watchmen, has a dark satirical edge and focuses on a world where almost all decisions are made via algorithm. Containing secrets within secrets, each season will center on a particular mystery or dilemma, that will be resolved by the end of the cycle.
It is the latest straight-to-series order for the streamer, which last week ordered an adaptation of YA book Vampire Academy from Julie Plec and Marguerite MacIntyre. It...

Writing compelling characters can be one of the most difficult parts of the craft, especially when it comes to ensemble stories, which focus on groups of characters and their relationships with one another. In an ensemble story, each character needs their own desires and roots, their own challenges and voice. At their best, reading a good ensemble story can feel like hanging out with a clever, loving, bickering group of friends. It’s one of the reasons we love The Lord of the Rings or Six of Crows or The Expanse. It’s also one of the reasons why fantasy author Victoria Aveyard wanted to write her new book, Realm Breaker. Inspired by her childhood love for The Lord of the Rings, Aveyard wanted to write a proper high fantasy adventure that had a place for her in the ensemble.

While the first trailer for Cats may have caused an internet frenzy, director Tom Hooper recently admitted that all the attention was somewhat of a shock to him.
In a November interview with UK magazine Empire, the 47-year-old filmmaker opened up about the online criticism of the movie’s initial trailer — which dropped on July 18 and quickly turned into a worldwide internet phenomenon — and said he found it “entertaining.”
“I was just so fascinated because I didn’t think it was controversial at all,” he told the outlet in his first-ever interview about the screen adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s famous musical.

After much anticipation, the Cats trailer is here — and social media users have their claws out!
The first glimpse into the star-studded remake of the classical musical dropped on Thursday and disturbed viewers did not hold back when it came to sharing their responses on Twitter.
“The #Cats trailer goes deep into the Uncanny Valley and discovers there is no bottom. Pure, straight-up nightmare fuel,” one user wrote.
“To whom does one report an abomination? A priest?” another user tweeted alongside the clip.
“The Cats trailer cursed the next four generations of my bloodline,” author Victoria Aveyard expressed.

Letitia Wright’s Shuri was the breakout star of Black Panther. Charismatic, ridiculously intelligent, badass and funny, she instantly won over audiences’ hearts. Even better, she was conspicuously absent during the depressing finale of Avengers: Infinity War.
The lack of a shot of her being dusted led most fans to conclude that she had indeed survived Thanos’ Snap, and given that there’s now a vacancy for the role of Black Panther, maybe she’d be taking up the mantle. Plus, Angela Bassett was asked whether or not her character Queen Ramonda had died and said the following last year: “No. Neither did my daughter. Shuri, she’s a bright girl there in Wakanda. So…”
That theory took a knock, though, when a background detail in the Endgame trailer revealed that the other characters considered her missing, but most still held out hope. But then Marvel released a set of...

Someone actually approves of the new “Popular Film” category at next year’s Oscars: “Saturday Night Live’s” Colin Jost, one of the upcoming Emmy Awards hosts.
Jost, who will host next month’s Emmy awards with his “Weekend Update” co-anchor Michael Che, received some push-back Tuesday after telling The Los Angeles Times about his desire to see “good, fun” things win awards rather than only “good, artsy” things.
“Remember when movies like ‘Gladiator’ won best picture? Why can’t good, fun things win and not just good artsy things? They’re both good and the fun ones are sometimes a lot harder to make,” Jost said in an interview with the paper about hosting the Emmys.

President Donald Trump was still truckin’ on Thursday, despite the House moving to delay a vote on his controversial health care bill.
The president spent the afternoon at the White House meeting with executives in the trucking industry, in a visit that has already captured the Internet’s attention.

After posing for photos, honking the horn and pretending to drive away, the president made some remarks while wearing an “I (heart) trucks” button pin — much to the delight of Twitter.

Elizabeth Banks has stepped down as director of the comedy sequel at "Pitch Perfect 3" at Universal Pictures.
Banks' departure was reportedly amicable and is said to be due to her busy schedule which has her not only starring in various films but also attached to direct the "Charlie's Angels" reboot at Sony and an adaptation of Victoria Aveyard's young adult novel "Red Queen" at Universal.
Her departure is almost certainly the reason Universal shifted the film's release date from July 21st 2017 to December 22nd 2017. Anna Kendrick, Britanny Snow and Rebel Wilson have already been confirmed to headline the returning cast of the third film.

It was the look that launched a thousand memes. "Game of Thrones" Season 6, Episode 4, had several memorable moments, including the reunion of two Stark kids. But it was the first meeting of two characters that really set the Internet ablaze, and it all started when Brienne the Beauty rode to Castle Black, and Tormund Giantsbane -- who often boasted of bedding a she-bear -- got a look at his new crush:

One of the more depressing aspects of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child was the assumption that, if you weren't able to get any of the immediately-sold-out tickets to the London show, you just weren't going to be able to experience the first new Harry Potter material in years. Despite its history as a cult favourite TV show, Charlie’s Angels was only able to spawn two movies of varying entertainment value and a more recent small screen re-interpretation that struggled for four episodes before being abruptly cancelled. Sony is looking to launch a new cinematic franchise with Pitch Perfect 2’s Elizabeth Banks in talks to direct. Banks, who scored the director’s chair of the a capella sequel after producing and appearing in the first, is in demand thanks to the film’s huge success at the box office (try $285 million worldwide on a $30 million budget). She’s already attached to make an adaptation of Victoria Aveyard’s novel Red Queen for Universal, and the studio would likely offer her first refusal on directing Pitch Perfect 3, now in development. Assuming she makes a deal to direct Charlie’s Angels, she’ll be part of the team...

With the massive success of Pitch Perfect 2 earlier this year, contributing to the huge year Universal is having having already scored huge with Furious 7 and now serving as the home to Jurassic World and it's record breaking opening weekend, it's not surprise the studio is moving forward with Pitch Perfect 3. Today the studio confirmed a July 21, 2017 release for the third film along with word both Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson are returning for a third go 'round. Kay Cannon, who wrote the first two movies, is back to write the third, though it's not yet clear if Elizabeth Banks will again direct as she has already set her sights on an adaptation of Victoria Aveyard's Ya novel "Red Queen". As of right now the film has no other competition on that weekend though the upcoming Spider-Man reboot does hit theaters the following week. Earlier that month...

Elizabeth Banks recently proved to the world that she can oversee a Hollywood studio film with Pitch Perfect 2. But rather than resting on her laurels, Banks has decided that instead of returning for Pitch Perfect 3 she wants to helm a completely new project in the shape of young adult novel adaptation Red Queen. According to Deadline, Elizabeth Banks has impressed the folks over at Universal with her handling of Pitch Perfect 2. So much so that they asked her to come aboard and bring to fruition an adaptation of Victoria Aveyard’s novel Red Queen. Banks is going to work in conjunction with her Brownstone Productions producing partner Max Handelman to oversee the film, while the script is being developed Breaking Bad's Gennifer Hutchison. As much as I want to support Elizabeth Banks' endeavors jumping behind the camera, between her non-distinctive touch to Pitch Perfect 2 to her equally unremarkable short in Movie 43, I can't quite say I'm a fan of what she's brought to the table thus far. But I like to think of myself as a pretty open-minded guy, and maybe she can turn my opinion with what looks to be her sophomore feature, an adaptation of Victoria Aveyard's Ya novel "Red Queen". Banks currently is in negotiations to helm the project for Universal, called a mix between "Game of Thrones," X-Men, Cinderella and her own Hunger Games. This would be a much bigger production than the $29 million budgeted one she spearheaded before, but based on her sequel's impressive box office numbers (they've already greenlit Pitch Perfect 3 as well), she's likely got enough clout to get herself in the door.

The actor and Pitch Perfect 2 director might adapt Victoria Aveyard’s young adult novel about a caste system based on blood colour
Elizabeth Banks, director of the hugely successful Pitch Perfect 2, is in talks with Universal to direct Red Queen, a sci-fi film about a fantasy world with a caste system organised according to blood colour. Breaking Bad writer Gennifer Hutchison is believed to be adapting Victoria Aveyard’s young adult novel for the screen.
Aveyard’s debut book follows 17-year-old Mare, a red-blooded servant of the silver-blood elite. The silver-bloods possess superhuman abilities, which Mare discovers lie dormant in her. The realisation of her magical power draws her into an unfamiliar, dangerous world in which she must adapt to survive.

And while Banks is deciding whether or not she'll direct the Bellas once again, she's making a move to try something a little bigger and certainly different. THR reports that Banks will helm the adaptation of the Ya fantasy novel "Red Queen" by Victoria Aveyard. After hitting a home-run with her directorial debut Pitch Perfect 2, Elizabeth Banks is being courted for another red-hot project at Universal. The studio is in talks with the triple threat (actress, producer and now helmer) to develop with an eye to direct Red Queen.

Sony Pictures is set to meld two different projects about the ancient Greek Gods appearing on contemporary Earth.
The first is "Apollo Rising," based on an original idea by Stan Lee which Lee and "Spider-Man" producer Avi Arad have developed. The second is the spec script "Eternal" by "Red Queen" author Victoria Aveyard.
"Eternal" is a modern interpretation of the story about Greek Gods and the various legendary monsters from Greek mythology coming to modern day Earth. "Apollo Rising" sees the Greek Gods living among humans on Earth in various hidden forms.
Both will be blended together for a new project which Arad, Lee, Michael Costigan, Pouya Shabazian, J.C. Spink and Jake Weiner will produce.

Fresh from the mystical land where teenage girls overcome the odds to save their dystopian family and ultimately pick between two hot boys comes two new Ya novels getting the movie adaptation treatment. For there is nothing quite like watching a plucky young heroine duke it out with some kind of menacing, probably supernatural foe in order to save everything she cares about — responsible adults not needed. “The Red Queen,” based on the novel of the same name by Victoria Aveyard, will be adapted for the screen by Breaking Bad writer Gennifer Hutchinson. In this world, all citizens are segregated based on the color of their blood. A 17-year-old girl (yes) must save her family (sure) by posing as a long-lost princess in order to secretly aid a revolution (sounds about right).
