It’s certainly been a year to remember if you’re a fan of The Punisher, now hasn’t it? In addition to winning over True Believers with the new Netflix series starring Jon Bernthal, Frank Castle has found yet another way to turn heads on the comic book side of things.
As you may recall, James Rhodes unfortunately met his end during the events of Civil War II. But, as it turns out, his War Machine armor didn’t go to waste because – get this – Castle picked up where Iron Man’s best buddy left off. That’s right, the deadliest mech suit around has fallen into the most dangerous hands possible.
Originally, I scoffed at this idea because I like seeing Castle as more of a stripped down vigilante who can easily exist outside of the Marvel Universe – and often has in his feature films. But when I really thought about it,...

Just when you thought Gwyneth Paltrow had bowed out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for pastures anew, the actress crops up for a small cameo at the tail-end of Spider-Man: Homecoming, proving that, yes, there’s still a future for her whip-smart Pepper Potts.
Case in point: four weeks ago, the actress was joined on set by Jon Favreau and Robert Downey Jr., the McU stalwart who plays her husband and the all-around genius, billionaire, playboy, and philanthropist known as Tony Stark. Together, that trio makes up a very small part of the Avengers 4 cast, and over the past fortnight alone, the list of actors marked safe for Infinity War has grown immeasurably.
Assuming Marvel and the Russo Brothers don’t employ flashback sequences, the roster of heroes currently includes Black Widow, Hawkeye, Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America, and Sebastian Stan’s fan-favorite Bucky Barnes – along with Happy, Potts and Stark,...

Although Secret Empire technically concluded last month with its tenth issue, a few threads were left dangling. Luckily for us though, an epilogue of sorts has arrived in the form of Secret Empire: Omega #1. And aside from exploring whatever’s going on with the two Steve Rogers, it’s only understandable that Marvel examine the fallout of its latest major crossover event.
So, in addition to hinting that Black Widow may very well be still alive, writer Nick Spencer continued laying the groundwork for the next year or so of Marvel storytelling by teasing what lies ahead for the Punisher. In case you haven’t heard, he’s going to be donning the War Machine armor before long, considering that James Rhodes can no longer make use of it for obvious reasons.

I don't know about you, but I've actually been curious about The Hulk's role in the upcoming two Avengers films. We know he plays a big role in Thor: Ragnarok and we know he'll eventually find his way back to the Avengers team, but what can we expect from his character when he does in Avengers: Infinity War?
Well, Fandango recently caught up with the Mark Ruffalo and Don Cheadle at D23 this past weekend. During the brief interview, they talk about their characters Bruce Banner/Hulk and James Rhodes/War Machine and their progression as they head into Avengers: Infinity War.
Cheadle starts off by explaining that War Machine recovers from the injuries he sustained in Civil War saying:
"Obviously at the end of Civil War, with what happened with War Machine, Rhodey's character has a lot to overcome. There's a progression to the movies, without being specific and telling you what it is,...

Spider-Man: Homecoming is a Spider-Man movie for a new generation -- a generation that desires to see a franchise reflective and representative of the world they currently live in. Yes, Tom Holland's Peter Parker still has to balance crime fighting with homework; and yes, he's still white, but the cast of characters around him are not.
"That was the intention. You know, because it’s 2017," John Francis Daley, who co-wrote the film with Jonathan Goldstein, told Et at the movie's Los Angeles premiere on June 28.
"It was also important to make this the real world. The Marvel universe lives in a real sort of place, so we wanted to be a part of a real school. The real school is in New York," added Goldstein.

Comic Books 101: Marvel Characters That Need To Be On Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. !
I’ve said time and time again that despite its merits the biggest flaws in Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D TV show has been its lack of fully developing characters from the Marvel Comic Book Universe. The show (which spiraled out from The Avengers movie) is ripe to explore and showcase some of the best characters that might just not be ready or capable of making an impact on the big screen. While some characters have found a way to appear (Deathlock, Daisy Rumble Johnson, Absorbing Man, and recently Ghost Rider) a great majority of villains have either been created specifically for the show (and suddenly now appearing in the comics) or have just been throw away characters that have very little to zero ties in the Marvel Cinematic Universe or Comic Book Universe.

In the words of singer Edwin Star, “War! What is it good for? Aboslutely noth’n”. This is exactly how I feel about the “Civil War” going within the Marvel Universe right now. Why would I feel that way? What can make me believe that a follow up companywide crossover to one of the biggest storylines for Marvel is “good for noth’n”? Well there quite a few reasons for such a conclusion, but first a little background on how Marvel works for those unaware.
Each year the great editors and writers of Marvel go off to a “retreat” where tons of ideas, plots, and concepts and just about anything for the company are discussed. This not so secret retreat has been going on for quite a few years with much of the focus apparently...

Even though titling a comic Civil War II just after Captain America: Civil War was released seems like a shameless cash grab, writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Olivier Coipel use this zero issue to set up the theme and conflict of the series, which straight from Philip K. Dick’s Minority Report. The question is, if given the chance, should we prevent crimes before they happen? Of course, there aren’t any answers so far, but Bendis plays to his strengths and focuses on individual characters’ ideas about the question, including Captain Marvel, who will be going up against Iron Man in the main series. Olivier Coipel’s clean, yet cartoonish style is a great fit for superheroes wrestling with their inner demons, and he...

Tough, unanswerable human questions frame spectacular, innovative action sequences that are like superhero ballets. This series just keeps getting better. I’m “biast” (pro): love the Marvel movies
I’m “biast” (con): nothing
(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)
What is the best way to deploy vastly superior abilities against less capable but nevertheless still very dangerous bad guys? How best to minimize collateral damage — of both the human and the infrastructure kind — when those vastly superior abilities are put to their use? What happens when people of good conscience, all of whom genuinely want nothing more than to increase net happiness and general well-being in the world, disagree over the answers to these questions? And who should get the final say: politicians sitting at desks thousands of miles away from the fields of battle, or the soldiers fighting those battles?

Now that Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice has flown into theaters, we have another superhero romp to focus our attention and anticipation on. Of course, that will be the next addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Captain America: Civil War. While the Dceu is still in its infancy, Marvel has a small army of superheroes to explore in future films. Unfortunately, that small army will be turning on themselves in Civil War, and apparently we may be seeing a casualty or two in the battle. Both of the trailers we’ve seen for Captain America: Civil War include James Rhodes aka War Machine being shot down in the midst of battle and looking to be in poor shape in the arms of Iron Man. This has sparked a debate on whether Rhodey may die in the film, and now actor Don Cheadle has spoken up regarding those ...

Outside of the Iron Man movies, War Machine hasn’t really played a big part in the McU. He did play a role in Avengers: Age of Ultron, but it was pretty small in comparison to everything else that was going on. It sounds like that’s all going to change with Captain America: Civil War. According to Don Cheadle, James Rhodes a.k.a. War Machine will have a more significant role this time out. While talking to SuperHeroHype, the actor said:
“I never know what it’s going to be and they keep their cards very close to their breast with Marvel. I never know where the character’s going to go, but he’s become more and more and in the next one, you’ll see that what happens to Rhodey is a little bit more intense and pivotal to what happens in the rest of the stories.

Do they need more supervision? Are there new regulations that could be put in place? Tony, burned by experiences with Ultron, thinks there should. Steve’s not so sure.

The 2015 summer movie season officially kicks off with Avengers: Age of Ultron. Needless to say that the bar has been set pretty damn high here. The prior installment, The Avengers (2012), was a well-received film that also had the third highest gross in history with $1.5 billion in ticket sales. That doesn’t even count all the merchandise the film sold. When critics and fans like your work, then you know the job has been done right. Now, the trick is to pull it off again.

This was originally written for ComicMix. The perfect storm of self doubt (Me??) my paranoid thoughts (yeah, that one fits) prompted me to send it to Bleeding Cool instead.
ComicMix has an article of mine sitting in its cue that’s been sitting there for weeks.
No doubt because of another perfect storm fueled by Murphy’s Law. Just one of those things I’m sure was no one’s fault.
When I saw it still wasn’t up today, my willingness to be This forthcoming evaporating like the last vapors of a meth pipe I pulled the trigger and sent it to Bleeding Cool instead of a kick ass article on Brotherman that will have to wait until next week.
As is my policy I don’t duplicate the same article for BC and Cm but if something’s important enough to me I want it t be seen...

Another bout of social media scoopery arrives this morning as the official Avengers: Age Of Ultron Twitter account has debuted a brand new TV spot for the forthcoming superhero sequel. In most cases, TV spots are merely re-edited trailers. Condensed into commercial-sized teasers, their sole purpose is for consumption between shows. However, in this minute-long video there’s practically no recycled footage.
Without wanting to give anything away – which is hard! – the clip feels unlike any other trailer released thus far. Where the one point of contention has been on the downbeat tone of earlier previews, this clip is peppy, excited and all about how much fun the cast appear to be having. Plus, we finally get a chance to hear one of the newest additions speak! Check it out for yourself above, and be sure to let us know your thoughts.

This morning, Marvel dropped a special new baddie-centric poster for Avengers: Age Of Ultron, which features Ultron, the evil mechanical tyrant, standing in what appears to be an industrial workshop.
Posing with his back to us, this type of stance has often been employed when showcasing the exemplary derriere of Scarlet Johansson’s Black Widow. So, it’s a pleasant change for synthetic individuals to now be subjected to the obligatory “butt shot” as well.
All jokes aside, the image offers a close-up look at the movie’s main baddie in a drab, gun-metal grey environment. In comparison to all the other Avengers character posters to have arrived in the last month, Ultron’s is the only one captured in a different location. Whether that means anything significant or not though remains to be seen.

Marvel’s dedicated marketing strategy for its upcoming superhero sequel Avengers: Age Of Ultron has been ambitious to say the least. As well as the expected trailers, clips, Superbowl spots and stills, a string of solo Avenger character posters have flooded the web. Up to now, Iron Man, Hulk, Black Widow, Nick Fury, Thor, Hawkeye and Captain America have all graced their very own one-sheets.
With those franchise main players established, the focus has shifted to newbies Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson). When they’re not behaving all superhero-esque, the sibling duo go by the names Wanda and Pietro Maximoff – but don’t let that fool you. Armed with an arsenal of powers, the pair are primed to do battle against anyone who stands in their way. If the last full-length trailer is anything to go on – that’s probably going to be all of the Avengers.

Although superhero movies are at their peek of popularity, they.re still not immune to a common problem that has plagued many franchises through cinema history: recasting. The world isn.t perfect, and occasionally there are developments that force a studio to find someone new to play an established hero, villain or supporting character. The most common reasons are because of a reboot (Henry Cavill replacing Brandon Routh as Superman) or an actor being replaced by the studio due to irreconcilable differences (Don Cheadle taking over as James Rhodes, a.k.a. War Machine, from Terrence Howard). It may inadvertently make fans angry, but it.s necessary to keep the machine running. The next five years will see even more superhero films being released, but that also means that we.ll be seeing a lot of new actors taking on heroic or villainous roles that were previously portrayed by other...

The folks over at Marvel are continuing their marketing campaign for Avengers: Age Of Ultron this week, with the arrival of a dedicated Captain America character poster. This latest release appears to be one of the final pieces of artwork slated to arrive, bearing the unmistakable visage of the first avenger, Steve Rogers.
Similarly to the previous onslaught of Avenger-specific posters, this one highlights Cap’s dominant trait; his stern side. Understandably so as he is the leader of the superhero team, a matter which the man himself recently addressed:
“I think [Captain America] feels very comfortable in a sort of leadership role, but I don’t think he gives orders, He does structure, organization — he’s a military guy,” Evans told Yahoo during an on-set interview. “Tony [Stark] is definitely paying the bills, and since there really is no company to report to, we’re kind of this independent unit that needs...

Yesterday saw Robert Downey Jr. post the first character poster from Avengers: Age of Ultron to his Twitter. Along with the image he included a caption teasing a “big announcement” in eight days.
