Back In Action: Cameron Diaz Returns After 10 Years Away, Starring In Netflix Comedy With Jamie Foxx
It's been a decade since Cameron Diaz last took to our screens, playing the villainous Miss Hannigan in 2014's Jamie Foxx co-starring Annie. But now Diaz is back in action in, er, Back In Action, Netflix's buzzy new action comedy. The Charlie's Angels and Shrek actor stars alongside Foxx in the film, which sees the pair play suburban parents with a big secret: they used to be spies! Check out the first images from the film below:
Hailing from Horrible Bosses director Seth Gordon – who's written this one alongside Brendan O’Brien (Bad Neighbours) – Back In Action follows Emily (Diaz) and Matt (Foxx), two seemingly average parents who used to be elite CIA agents. Years after giving up spycraft to start a family however, the couple's low-key suburban life is upended when their cover is blown and they find themselves dragged back into the world of espionage. And what a...

Netflix released a first look at “Running Point,” Mindy Kaling’s upcoming comedy series starring Kate Hudson.
Per the official logline, “when a scandal forces her brother to resign, Isla Gordon (Hudson) is appointed president of the Los Angeles Waves, one of the most storied professional basketball franchises, and her family business. Ambitious and often overlooked, Isla will have to prove to her skeptical brothers, the board, and the larger sports community that she was the right choice for the job, especially in the unpredictable, male-dominated world of sports.”
The cast also includes Drew Tarver, seen above on the right as Sandy, one of Isla’s brothers and the chief financial officer of The Waves; Scott MacArthur, seen above on the left as Ness, another brother and the Waves’ general manager; and Brenda Song, seen below as Ali Lee, the team’s chief of staff.

Awards season may well be over for another year in the world of film, with the Oscars, BAFTAs, and Golden Globes just a distant memory now. But on Sunday evening, one of the biggest nights in British TV, the BAFTA TV Awards — this year hosted by comedians Rob Beckett and Ramesh Ranganathan — took place at London’s Royal Festival Hall. And on a night where the two most nominated shows, Black Mirror and The Crown, failed to snag a single win, Happy Valley, Top Boy, and The Sixth Commandment enjoyed great success in key categories, each taking home two awards apiece.
On the night, Sarah Lancashire won Leading Actress for her all-timer of a turn as police sergeant Catherine Cawood in Happy Valley, her second BAFTA for the same role. The show also snagged the public-voted Memorable Moment award for Catherine and Tommy Lee Royce’s (James Norton) remarkable final kitchen showdown.

Updated with complete winners list: Despite being up for four acting category awards, The Crown‘s final season left the BAFTA TV Awards empty handed tonight in London.
Elizabeth Debicki, Lesley Manville, Salim Daw and Dominic West were all snubbed, as the the likes of Matthew Macfadyen, Jasmine Jobson, Timothy Spall and Sarah Lancashire all triumphed and the Netflix show went out quietly.
There was also a major surprise in the International category, where little-known French drama Class Act beat the likes of Beef, The Bear and The Last of Us to win the prize. Among the most shocked was the show’s star Laurent Lafitte, who urged the audience to find and watch his show — to the amusement of the audience.

The BAFTA TV Craft Awards took place on Sunday, April 28, with British TV host and documentarian Stacey Dooley hosting the event at East London’s The Brewery. The ceremony was the first half of the two BAFTA nights honoring the year’s best TV, with the Craft Awards dedicated to below-the-line categories just like the Creative Arts Emmys.
We attended Sunday’s ceremony and managed to speak to a number of nominated artists, including Adiescar Chase, who serves as the composer for Netflix’s hit feel-good LGBTQ+ series “Heartstopper.” Chase explained to us how she created the iconic sound of “Heartstopper,” noting that her conversation with director Euros Lyn exemplified how she works on the show.
“The great thing about ‘Heartstopper’ is that, in season two, Euros asked that I make the music feel new, feel like it’s developing as we are with the characters. So, a lot of...

Cameron Diaz will be Back in Action alongside Jamie Foxx on Netflix and the Charlie’s Angels star is defending her co-star against claims he was challenging to work with.
In a new interview, Diaz is breaking her silence about working with Foxx and reports that suggested that starring alongside the Django Unchained star would affect her career.
“I really hate all of the things that were being said about our set at the time,” Diaz said on the Lipstick on the Rim podcast about the rumors sprawling in the media while filming Back in Action. “You just want to scream at the top of your lungs, like, ‘What are you talking about?’”
Diaz continued praising Foxx adding, “Jamie is, like, the cheerleader for the entire crew. Everybody loves him. We have so much fun on the set with him and he’s just a professional on every level.”

Features the voices of: Will Ferrell, Jamie Foxx, Will Forte, Isla Fisher, Randall Park, Josh Gad, Harvey Guillén, Rob Riggle, Brett Gelman, Jamie Demetriou, Sofia Vergara | Written by Dan Perrault | Directed by Josh Greenbaum
Produced by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (The Lego Movie), this inspired comedy takes the previously family-friendly talking dog movie genre and turns it into an outrageously filthy, frequently gasp-inducing, R-rated laugh riot. It just might be the funniest film of the year.
Will Ferrell (sounding a lot like Paul Rudd) voices Reggie, a hopelessly naïve Border Terrier who can’t see that his owner, Doug (Will Forte) is a hateful, selfish loser who despises him. One day, Doug drives Reggie several miles away and abandons him, though Reggie still thinks they are playing their favourite game, “Fetch and f**k”, so called because that’s what Doug yells, every time Reggie finds his way home again.

It’s lights out on The Afterparty. Apple TV+ has canceled the murder-mystery comedy after two seasons. Apple nixed the series in part because of a post-strike reevaluation of its streaming series, according to Deadline sources. The Afterparty debuted in January 2022, created by Chris Miller and executive-produced by Phil Lord as part of the pair’s five-year overall deal with Apple TV+. Season 1 told the story of a murder at a high school reunion through the perspectives of different guests, with each episode boasting its own visual style based on popular film genres. That first season starred Tiffany Haddish, Sam Richardson, Zoë Chao, Ben Schwartz, Ike Barinholtz, Ilana Glazer, Jamie Demetriou, and Dave Franco. Season 2 premiered this July, with Haddish, Richardson, and Chao reprising their roles in a tale about a murder at a wedding. Come on, Barbie, let’s go party at my house when Greta Gerwig’s Barbie comes to 4K HD, Blu-ray, and DVD later this month! The physical release of 2023’s highest-grossing film hits shelves and online retailers on October 17, bringing laughter, existential crisis, and harsh lessons about social constructs to your living room!
Barbie converted the summer into a dance party when the musical comedy turned most theater tickets pink, earning $1.4B worldwide! The film presents the iconic blonde bombshell in ways we’ve never seen while taking Mattel to task for decades of questionable motivation concerning its portrayal of “toys for girls.” To Mattel’s credit, the legendary toy company leans into Gerwig and Noah Baumbach’s biting script, giving the Hollywood couple plenty of room to play in Barbie Land. Barbie is a unique film experience worth watching, and you can pre-order a copy of the film by clicking this link.

Greta Gerwig’s Barbie might as well wear the Infinity Gauntlet because the pink-powered meta-comedy has defeated Avengers: Endgame as the best-selling movie ever at Alamo Drafthouse. The theater chain isn’t keen on releasing ticket sale totals for either film. However, Barbie is sitting pretty at the box office, with $596 million in North America and $1.343 billion worldwide. For those who want to compare, Avengers: Endgame snapped up $858 million in North America and $2.799 billion globally. While Barbie is bigger than Endgame at Alamo Drafthouse, the Marvel event film is still the second-biggest movie in history behind James Cameron’s Avatar.
A portion of Barbie’s popularity at Alamo Drafthouse could point toward the theater chain’s merchandise push, with Drafthouse cinemas offering limited edition items to guests, including lunch boxes, t-shirts, and sunglasses. Alamo Drafthouse says Barbie is responsible for selling more merch than any other film hosted by the boutique theater.

Strays may be a film about talking dogs but it boasts an obscenely stacked cast. There’s Will Ferrell, revisiting the sweet naivety of his Elf era. There’s Jamie Foxx, having more fun than he’s visibly had in a decade. Will Forte gets to be more obnoxious than he’s been since The Last Man on Earth. Jamie Demetriou pops up briefly. Sofía Vergara plays a settee. It’s all very impressive.

One of the genres that has struggled most in the post-pandemic landscape theatrically is comedy. Divorced of movies connected to major franchises, straight-up comedy has had a tough go outside of streaming in recent years, with only romcoms like "The Lost City" and "Ticket to Paradise" truly breaking out as unqualified success stories. Be that as it may, Universal Pictures is entering the late summer fold with an R-rated comedy in the form of "Strays," which features an A-list cast as talking dogs. Will the gimmick work? It just might.
Box Office Pro currently has the film taking in between $15 and $25 million on its opening weekend next week. That would put it in a tight race with Warner Bros. and DC's "Blue Beetle," which is eyeing a $13 to $18 million start. It is pretty damn interesting that we're at a place where an R-rated comedy, in which Will Ferrell and Jamie Foxx voice foul-mouthed dogs,...

If you’re among the few people holding out on seeing Barbie in theaters, your magenta-pink Dream Boat is coming in! During a Q2 earnings call, David Zaslav announced the $1 billion-dollar earning phenom is coming to Max in the Fall!
Addressing people on the other end of the horn, Zaslav doubled down on his belief that a long theatrical window is a way for the box office to recover from the pandemic slump. “We really believe in the motion picture window — let it play out … go into PVOD, take it through the windows that have worked forever [in the business],” he said. “When it goes on Max, it will have a good impact in the fall.”
In addition to bringing Barbie to Max in the Fall, Deadline says Greta Gerwig’s money-printing film will cruise onto airlines in September. Imagine partying with Ken and Barbie at 30,000 feet! That’s a party!

Barbie (read our review Here) is currently dominating the box office, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if it goes on to rack up some Oscar nominations as well. It seems like a lock for categories like Best Production Design, Best Costume Design, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, etc. Variety recently spoke to production designer Sarah Greenwood and set decorator Katie Spencer about the work they did to bring Barbie Land to the screen… and during the conversation, it was revealed that one of the locations in Barbieland was inspired by an iconic location from one of the most popular horror movies ever made: Weird Barbie’s house was inspired by the Bates house in Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho (watch it Here)!
Weird Barbie’s house was one of the last sets Greenwood and Spencer worked on, and Greenwood had this to say about it: “One of my early references...
