Eight-time Grammy winner Gloria Estefan is writing the music and lyrics for an original stage musical called Five Notes about Paraguay’s Recycled Orchestra of Cateura, the singer announced today.
In an Instagram post, Estefan said she’s collaborating with her daughter Emily Estefan for the music, with the book written by playwright Karen Zacarías. Dear Evan Hansen director Michael Greif will direct Five Notes, according to Estefan.
Five Notes is inspired by the Orquesta De Reciclados De Cateura, also known as The Recycled Orchestra of Cateura or simply the Recycled Orchestra, an orchestra composed of children from Asunción, Paraguay, who played musical instruments made from scrap materials collected from a local landfill. Formed in 2012, the orchestra performed internationally with Stevie Wonder and the American heavy-metal bands Metallica and Megadeth, and was the subject of the 2015 documentary Landfill Harmonic.

Meta is shutting down its Facebook Watch original programming, a company spokesperson confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter, leaving the future of shows like Red Table Talk in limbo as production company Westbrook Studios shops around the talk show for a new home.
The shuttering of the Facebook Watch originals division, first reported by Deadline, comes as Meta implements wide-ranging cost cuts across the company, with the most recent including a round of layoffs that is expected to impact 10,000 employees. Included in the cuts is Mina Lefevre, the former MTV executive who led development and original programming for Facebook Watch.
One of Facebook Watch’s most well-known shows was Red Table Talk, the talk show co-hosted by Jada Pinkett Smith, Willow Smith and Adrienne Banfield-Norris. The series had five seasons on Facebook Watch and led to a spinoff series, Red Table Talk: The Estefans, with Gloria Estefan, Emily Estefan and Lili Estefan.

Gloria Estefan Explains Why She Didn’t Let Her Daughter Emily Come Out To Her Mother Before She Died
Latin pop star Gloria Estefan has spoken about the complicated family dynamics around her daughter Emily‘s coming out. Estefan told CNN’s Chris Wallace about the fact that she was reluctant to allow Emily to come out to her late mother because it is such a “taboo” in the Latin community and the stress may have affected her health.

“In the Latin community, a lot of these subjects aren’t touched,” Estefan explained, though she assured viewers, “Emily, I thought, would feel comfortable coming out to me.”
She then later explained that her mother suffered from ulcerative colitis, and she “even if I brought up a bill–– or something that was not even important––would get very upset, and would get sick.”
This topic was first discussed on Red Table Talk: The Estefans, which is a continuation of the Facebook Watch talk series originated by Jada Pinkett-Smith.

Lea Michele had the opportunity to live out a dream on Thursday when she opened the 96th annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade singing, fittingly, her rafter-raising rendition of “Don’t Rain on My Parade.”
The “Glee” star, who is currently starring on Broadway as Fanny Brice in “Funny Girl” and shown above rehearsing for her parade performance, kicked off the festivities with the musical theater classic first made famous by Barbra Streisand (and originated in this Broadway revival by Beanie Feldstein).
Despite Michele’s demands to not rain on her parade, some on social media still tried to do just that.
“No way the thanksgiving day parade began with lea michele jumpscare,” one user tweeted with a crying emoji.
Another questioned why the Thanksgiving Day Parade didn’t give a “trigger warning” when Michele began singing, while another shared a meme of Mateo of NBC comedy “Super Store” signing a cross over his chest,...

The Broadway productions listed in the performance line-up this year, in addition to Funny Girl, are Disney’s long-running The Lion King, as well as new Broadway arrivals A Beautiful Noise, the Neil Diamond musical, and Some Like It Hot, the musical adaptation of the 1959 classic film comedy.

SEESee all soap opera stars who won Best Actress at the Daytime Emmys
The Daytime Emmys honor the best in television programming that airs during the day, but that distinction is not as simple as it used to be. We’re in an era when streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime deliver programming that can be viewed at any time of day, some of which conforms more closely to the kinds of shows that air in prime time, and others that correspond to the usual daytime fare.

The 49th annual Daytime Emmy Awards made their in-person return on Friday, for the first time since 2019.
And among the night’s big winners, Mishael Morgan achieved an important but grossly overdue milestone, becoming the first Black actress to win Outstanding Lead Performance in a Daytime Drama Series for her work on “The Young and The Restless.”
But generally, “General Hospital” was the night’s biggest winner, taking home the Emmys Outstanding Daytime Drama, Outstanding Supporting actress, Outstanding Supporting actor, Outstanding Younger Performer, and Outstanding Directing Team, for a total of 5.
Kelly Clarkson was the night’s second biggest winner, taking home Emmys for Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show and for Talk Show Host in the same genre.
The ceremony, which aired on CBS and streamed live on Paramount+, was filmed at the Pasadena Civic Center in Pasadena, Calif., and hosted by Entertainment Tonight’s Kevin Frazier and Nischelle Turner.
