It’s no secret that Zoe Saldana usually wears black dresses, and I couldn’t blame her—black is a classic and versatile color that can effortlessly create a stylish and sophisticated appearance.
After showcasing a series of black ensembles during the promotion of “The Absence of Eden” last month, Zoe Saldana made a striking return to the red carpet. Remarkably, she appeared in two identical black dresses at events only a few days apart.

If Italian artist Marco Perego-Saldaña’s transition to film comes as a surprise, it is only to those outside his own household. “I always wanted to make a film. I’m a little obsessed. I watch one film Monday to Friday,” he says. “Sunday, actually,” corrects his wife Zoe Saldaña, with a laugh.
With the intensely dark drama The Absence of Eden starring Saldaña and Garrett Hedlund as individuals on each side of the U.S. border crisis, Perego-Saldana has put decades of artistry and independent study to use, creating a film that juxtaposes beauty with brutality. “The idea was to approach it from a sculpture perspective,” he says. “There are so many mysteries inside the picture to discover, if people pay attention.”
Deadline: Why was this a subject matter that you wanted to explore with your first feature film?

Sasquatch Sunset directors Nathan and David Zellner always wondered what these hairy giants do when they’re not walking – the only Bigfoot footage available has been a minute of a supposed Sasquatch wandering in the northern California woods. They decided to flesh that out in unique dialogue-free comedic imagining of the creatures’ daily life – eating, fighting, etc. Stars Jesse Eisenberg, Riley Keough, Christophe Zajac-Denek and Nathan Zellner are unrecognizable as the hairy tribe of four that entranced Sundance (see Deadline review). Bleecker Street is opening the film, written by David Zellner, executive produced by Ari Aster, in 9 theaters in New York, LA, San Francisco and Austin, ahead of a big jump to about 800 screens next week.

Two parallel but inevitably intersecting stories make up Italian-born director Marco Perego’s debut feature “The Absence of Eden,” a strikingly shot and superbly acted immigration drama. But for all its commendable on-screen elements, it’s the screenplay that Perego co-wrote with Rick Rapoza that falls short, traversing overly familiar and rather sordid tropes related to a divisive political issue. While the actors — led by Zoe Saldaña, who is also married to the director — give powerful portrayals that challenge the country’s anti-immigrant climate, but there’s little in the way of thematic novelty here.
New Ice Agent Shipp (Garrett Hedlund), whose estranged father often leaves voice messages he never hears, has just moved to an unnamed border town. Though Shipp’s decision to join this line of work doesn’t stem from a strong ideological stance, his partner and friend Dobbins (Chris Coy) tries to instill in him a dehumanizing “us against them” mentality.

The festival’s 70th edition runs this year from July 12 to 19.
“I am happy to work in Sicily to rediscover my roots – I was born and raised in Rome, but my only quarter of Italian blood is from Palermo,” Müller said.
“I thank all the people, in the institutions and among friends of cinema, who have built for me this opportunity to experiment in Taormina the moving thought of how a useful popular festival can still be built. We will use the extraordinary Teatro Antico – which was always a source of jealousy...

Immigration has often been a topic that sparks strong emotions around the globe, and it is an especially hot topic this election season, particularly when you have a U.S. presidential candidate characterizing undocumented immigrants not as “human” but rather as “animals” and using phrases such as “they are poisoning the blood of our country” at campaign rallies. Now seems to be a perfect time for a powerful new film, The Absence of Eden, to perhaps help lower the temperature and show the human side of those trying to cross the border into a new and hopefully better life.
None other than Martin Scorsese has lent his name to this film by signing on as an executive producer, and it represents the first feature for artist and producer Marco Perego who also happens to be the husband of the film’s star Zoe Saldaña. Perego says it was all inspired...

Fine performances and powerful visuals only partially compensate for the inevitable air of familiarity that accompanies Marco Perego’s debut feature. Although the filmmaker provides his real-life spouse Zoe Saldaña with one of her best roles in a long while — it’s nice to see her get a respite from the numerous sci-fi and fantasy blockbuster franchises (Star Trek, Avatar, Guardians of the Galaxy) to which she’s attached, not to mention free of alien make-up — The Absence of Eden spins a by-now sadly familiar story of the human suffering engendered by the border crisis.

Zoë Saldaña’s affinity for intergalactic sci-fi adventures is well documented through her filmography. With a prominent presence in major franchises like James Cameron’s Avatar, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, and the Star Trek reboot, the accomplished actor has been an integral factor in all these films becoming huge box office successes.

Zoe Saldaña was asked on an upcoming episode of The Playlist’s “Discourse” podcast if she was “done” playing Gamora in the Marvel Cinematic Universe now that James Gunn’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” trilogy has ended. Gunn has moved on to DC, and some of Saldaña’s co-stars like Dave Bautista (Drax the Destroyer) have vowed that “Vol. 3” was their last “Guardians” movie.
“I mean, so far, I think that she is [gone for good] for me, but I don’t think Gamora has gone for good,” Saldaña answered, suggesting she is not interested in playing Gamora again at this time but certainly the character still exists within the Marvel Cinematic Universe and its sprawling multiverse.

When the co-host talked about Whoopi, she might have been wrong to do that. Perhaps, as fans suspect, she should think about retiring and focusing on her writing and comedy show. Zoe Saldaña is a proud mom of three kids with husband Marco Perego, and she seems to love taking them everywhere with her. Of course, fame means that sometimes their outings can be disrupted by fans - though not always, largely thanks to the fact that Saldaña has appeared in blue and green makeup in some of her best-known projects. "I can take my kids to a coffee shop and I'll be recognized of course, sometimes," Saldaña told CBS News on July 17. "And sometimes I won't."
Saldaña frequently shares glimpses of her family's travels and fun times on social media and generally includes her kids in her work life. In January 2023, she posted an Instagram video of her kids recreating a scene from "Zoolander," seemingly showing that her kids might have inherited a bit of their mom's love for the camera. She also told InStyle in 2022 that her appearances in...

Penélope Cruz is set to star as Olga, a writer forced to give up her artistic ambitions when her husband suddenly leaves her and their two young daughters, in Isabel Coixet’s English-language adaptation of Italian author Elena Ferrante’s “The Days of Abandonment.”

Camila Mendes is celebrating a big milestone. On July 10, the 29-year-old actor shared an Instagram photo commemorating her and boyfriend Rudy Mancuso's first year together as a couple. "Always in our own little world," Mendes captioned a sweet picture of the two wrapped in a close embrace. "Te amo so much. one year down, and many more to go." Mancuso got in on the love fest as well, writing "Amoooooooooor" in the comments section and reposting it on his Instagram Stories.
Mendes's anniversary post provides some clarification surrounding the timeline of her and Mancuso's very private relationship. The "Riverdale" star seemed to confirm dating rumors in November by sneaking several untagged photos of Mancuso into a "life update" Instagram gallery. In January, Mendes told the "Going Mental" podcast why she wanted to take things slow and keep her relationship out of the public eye. "I am still in the...

The movie takes place in the southern borders of the United States, “a dangerous area inhabited by Coyotes, Ice officers, and filled with desperate immigrants and refugees”.

When Variety talks to Zoe Saldaña and her husband, the artist and film director, Marco Perego, they’ve only just arrived at the Taormina Film Festival, and are in the process of unpacking. Room service arrives and Zoe apologizes about having to tuck into the salad straightaway. They’re here attending the world premiere of Perego’s debut film as a director, “The Absence of Eden,” a drama that takes place in the murky world of the U.S.’s southern border, a hellish landscape inhabited by Coyotes, Ice officers, desperate immigrants and refugees.
It’s a universe away from the Pandora of the “Avatar” pictures or the science fiction blockbusters “Star Trek” and “Guardians of the Galaxy” Saldaña is more usually associated with. “When I was picked for those films, I had no idea they were going to become franchises. I thought it was going to be a one and done kind of thing.

Zoe Saldaña turned up the romance on a night out with her husband Marco Perego on June 30. Dressed to the nines, the couple hit the red carpet at the Taormina Film Festival in Italy to celebrate the premiere of their new film, "The Absence of Eden," which Perego directed and Saldaña stars in. "Proud to have our movie debuting at the Taormina Film Festival," she wrote on Instagram on June 20. "Let's go Marco!"
The couple, who secretly married in the summer of 2013, hardly left each other's sides as they posed for the cameras, showing off their coordinated all-black ensembles. As they walked, Saldaña and Perego couldn't take their eyes off one another. Saldaña even paused to fix Perego's hair at one point, smiling and cupping his face after she'd moved the rogue locks of hair back into place. Later in the evening, she also leaned over to give her husband a deep kiss.

The newly rebooted Taormina Film Festival kicked off on Friday night in the Sicilian city’s landmark Teatro Antico amphitheatre in an unusual but magnificent style with benefit event “Pavarotti Forever”.

Italy’s Taormina Film Festival kicks off its 69th edition Friday evening against the backdrop of its landmark Teatro Antico amphitheatre with a “Pavarotti Forever” benefit event headlined by Placido Domingo and Vittorio Grigolo.
