Amy Winehouse’s meteoric rise is charted in the latest trailer for Back to Black, the upcoming biopic about the late British singer starring Industry actress Marisa Abela.
The new preview finds Winehouse establishing her lofty goals as an artist, milestones she would all-too-quickly reach worldwide: “Do you know what ‘Girl Power’ means to me? Sarah Vaughan, Lauryn Hill,” Abela’s Winehouse says in the trailer. “You need to know this: I ain’t no Spice Girl.”
Later in the trailer, the singer says, “I don’t write songs to be famous.

Who didn’t Tony Bennett duet with?
The legendary singer was famously known for his Grammy-winning, platinum-selling Duet albums that featured everyone from Lady Gaga and Amy Winehouse to Aretha Franklin and Barbra Streisand.
Here, we celebrate the collaborative efforts of Bennett, who died Friday at age 96.
Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga ditched the upbeat, electronic dance sound that made her popular to work with Bennett on jazz music, a genre she had been singing since she was a teenager. The New Yorkers first collaborated on “The Lady Is a Tramp” from Bennett’s 2011 release Duets II. The pairing was so perfect they went on to record 2014’s Cheek to Cheek, with Bennett and Gaga hoping to turn more kids to jazz music. “[Gaga] has a vast group of young people who love her, and they’ve never heard popular jazz music, classical American music … and my ambition was to do this...

How does Heather Parry, president of Live Nation Productions, operate? A telling example comes in answer to a question about how her company became involved with “A Star Is Born,” the Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga vehicle that is already one of the biggest films of the year.
“I know Bradley, and as soon as I heard he was going to direct it I called his agent, Dave Bugliari, who was on a ski lift at the time,” she recalls. “I said, ‘How does Live Nation get involved with this movie? We have venues and festivals and concert tours and all these assets and ways we can help you market,’ and he was like ‘I’m on a ski lift!,’” she laughs. “But to his credit, he called me right back and then talked to Bradley. Just like everyone, Amy Winehouse's mom is likely to hear "Black to Black" or "Rehab" played wherever she goes. But for Janis Winehouse, the songs are like a greeting from the daughter she lost in 2011. "Hearing her songs played, I always say "Hello, Amy”, says Janis, 60, "That’s what’s lovely. She's here all the time." Since Amy's death, her family has marked some happy milestones that help ease the unending anguish of their loss. Janis remarried old friend Richard Collins, 64, in September 2011. And in September 2014, the singer's older brother Alex celebrated the birth of a baby boy with his wife Riva.

Amy Winehouse's mom has revealed how she watched her adoring daughter turn into a "stranger" as she descended into drink and drug addiction. Janis Winehouse-Collins, 60, writes in her new memoir, Loving Amy: A Mother's Story, about the agony of seeing the "Rehab" singer, strained by the rigors of fame, change from a chatty little girl, with a "wonderful sense of humor" into a shadow of her former self. But speaking to People, Janis says that more than three years after Amy's death at age 27 on July 23, 2011, she has no regrets. "There was nothing I could have done that was different,...

Amy Winehouse. Amy Winehouse documentary: 'Heartbreaking' and 'impressive' In an era of disposable pop music, the songs of the late Amy Winehouse feel timeless. Her sound spans the decades: bluesy and jazzy, a little bit punk and a little bit gansta. She was an old soul belting out new school lyrics that were confessional, profane, clever, and withering. She has been compared to Billie Holiday (in more ways than one, alas) and Winehouse herself has noted Sarah Vaughn as an influence. Her phrasing could turn any note into an adventure, bending and stretching it until it made multiple emotional statements. Her voice was both propulsive and brittle with a vibrato that could pound like a jackhammer or purr like Eartha Kitt. And that's to say nothing of her signature look, the beehive hairdo, the tattoos, and the increasingly garish makeup that would eventually hide much more than facial blemishes. Unfortunately,...
