Warning: Contains spoilers for X-Men ’97 Season 1
Now that’s how you do it. X-Men ’97 – Marvel Studios’ long-awaited follow-up to the 1990s X-Men animated series – ended this week with a finale that cements it as perhaps the best screen adaptation of the merry mutants we’ve ever seen. It’s well-known that, since their acquisition of the franchise from Fox, Marvel has had designs on a live-action McU-set take on the characters – and if this series is anything to go by, they’re on exactly the right track. Showrunner Beau DeMayo may no longer be with the company, but X-Men ’97 gives us a stack of reasons to hope that as much of its behind-the-scenes talent as possible has a hand in shepherding the mutants to the big screen.
In many senses, the success of X-Men ’97 came from picking up where the original cartoon left off. One of...

Two key players from the X-Men ‘97 crew are now confirmed to be returning for Season 2.
Fans are absolutely in love with the continuation of the original X-Men: The Animated Series on Disney+. Only four episodes in, the storyline has seen Magneto become the leader of the X-Men, Storm lose her powers, the introduction of The Goblin Queen, and even the return of a ratings-starved Mojo.
It is hard to imagine what the rest of the season holds—let alone in the confirmed Seasons 2 and 3. But, at the very least, fans can rest assured that the score itself will remain top-notch.

Apple TV’s Monarch season 2 is officially in the making. The streaming platform is developing multiple other MonsterVerse spin-off shows in addition to Monarch: Legacy of Monsters‘ second installment. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire‘s stomping box office success has ushered in a new era for MonsterVerse. The film was released on March 29 worldwide and is still going strong at the box office.
The past decade has been a great one for MonsterVerse with movies like Godzilla (2014), Kong: Skull Island (2017), Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019), and Godzilla vs. Kong (2021) making massive numbers at the box office. Moreover, Apple TV’s 2023 show Monarch: Legacy of Monsters has also been raking in big streaming numbers. However, a new update reveals that many MonsterVerse stories are yet to be told.

X-Men: The Animated Series became a ’90s sensation in part because it so faithfully translated the stories of X-Men comics into Saturday morning cartoon form. That included not only classic storylines such as “Days of Future Past,” “Broodfall,” and more recently “Inferno” on X-Men ’97, but also bringing in even deep cut characters.
At the center of the show was an all-star lineup, mostly consisting of the Blue Squad in the Jim Lee-driven comic series X-Men, with Wolverine, Cyclops, and Beast alongside Gold Squad transplants Jean Grey and Storm. But the real pleasure of the show came not from the good guys, but from the baddies, the many wonderful weirdos that the series brought from the comics into animated form. While that rogues’ gallery includes lesser-known greats like Mojo and fan-faves like the Nasty Boys, these 10 stand out as the best of the worst in the X-Men: The Animated Series universe…...

This article contains spoilers for X-Men ‘97 episode 4.
X-Men ‘97 episode 4 “Motendo” brings back a familiar villain, Mojo (voiced by David Errigo Jr.). Per his usual M.O., Marvel’s weirdest baddie kidnaps a couple members of the X-family, transporting them to a dangerous world of entertainment where they have to fight for their lives for his amusement. This time, newcomer Sunspot (Gui Agustini) and Jubilee (Holly Chou) are the victims, and on the latter’s 18th birthday, no less.
Sunspot and Jubilee are forced inside a 16-bit video game which bears a striking resemblance to the classic X-Men game created for the Sega Genesis (which was perhaps the only other X-Men property which had a theme song that could rival the animated series), and when inside this digital nightmare, the two must fight their way out. Mojo throws everything he can at the young mutants, but along the way,...

The fourth episode of "X-Men '97" is, in fact, two episodes crammed into one. The first half, called "Motendo," is about Jubille (Holly Chou) being teleported into Mojoworld where she is forced to fight inside a violent video game at the behest of a TV goblin named Mojo. The second half, called "Lifedeath, Part 1," follows Storm (Alison Sealy-Smith) after she lost her weather-controlling superpowers in the previous episode. It was quite a blow for Storm who was essentially a goddess. Now a mere mortal with no mastery of the elements, Storm is approached by a character named Forge (Gil Birmingham) with a proposal that they team up for an unspecified mission.
Forge had previously appeared in "X-Men: The Animated Series" (voiced by Marc Strange) as the leader of X-Factor, a separate team of super-mutants. Forge has the uncanny ability to intuit machines just by handling them, making him the world's greatest mechanic.

The latest episode of "X-Men '97," called "Motendo/Lifedeath, Part 1," features the return of Mojo, a longtime X-Men villain who made his debut in "Longshot" #3, published in November of 1985. Mojo was a horrible, mutilated cybernetic monster with robotic spidery legs and a series of mechanical tubes sprouting from his body. He ruled a dimension called the Mojoverse, and oversaw one of the realm's most popular TV shows, "Mojovision," a gladiatorial show wherein superpowered beings from across multiple dimensions would be forced to fight to the death. Mojo lived for ratings and only cared about watching his numbers increase. He was modeled after the shallow TV executives and schmoozing moneymen who oversee most creative efforts in Hollywood.
Mojo made a memorable appearance in two episodes of "X-Men: The Animated Series" wherein he was enthusiastically played by Canadian voice actor Peter Wildman. In "Mojovision", he snarled and cackled as he forced the...

Warming: this article contains spoilers for the "X-Men '97" episode "Motendo / Lifedeath, Part 1," so proceed with caution.
Since "X-Men '97" is a revival of "X-Men: The Animated Series," the creators of the nostalgic continuation of the Marvel mutants' story made sure to bring back as many of the original voice actors as they could. Sadly, both Norm Spencer (Cyclops) and David Hemblen (Magneto) passed away in 2020, making them unable to return, but Ray Chase and Matthew Waterson are doing fantastic jobs filling in their respective shoes. Meanwhile, Jennifer Hale replaces Catherine Disher as Jean Grey, Chris Potter switched from Gambit to Cable for "X-Men '97," with A.J. LoCascio taking over as the Ragin' Cajun, and Morph is now voiced J.P. Karliak.
But there was one voice actor from "X-Men: The Animated Series" who purposely opted not to reprise their role in order to allow someone else the opportunity that otherwise...

As the title indicates, "X-Men '97" is firmly set in the decade in which the original "X-Men: The Animated Series" debuted, the gloriously colorful '90s. So when Jubilee turns 18 in the fourth episode of the animate series revival, it only makes sense that she wants to take all of her mutant teammates to the arcade to celebrate. Unfortunately, the X-Men's new leader Magneto isn't having it, which prompts Jubilee to vent her frustrations to the newest X-Men recruit, Roberto da Costa (aka Sunspot), while hanging out in her room.
That's when Roberto notices that Jubilee really is a gamer, noticing a game console sitting next to the TV in her bedroom. But even though Jubilee genuinely believes that the only people who hate video games are bad at video games, that console doesn't belong to her. Instead, the Motendo is actually a sneaky trap created by...

Journey becomes introspective for key X-Men members, as this week’s latest episode of X-Men’97 focuses on two separate adventures with distinctive tone and treatment, like an old-school comics double bonanza issue. On the one hand, the youngest member of the team, Jubilee, gets a reality check in the form of getting taken inside Marvel’s gameverse for a trip down memory lane, and on the other hand, Ororo is up for some nasty revelations regarding her loss of power.
Previously, members of X-Men had rescued teenage mutant Roberto De Costa from the clutches of mutant hate group Friends of Humanity, and he eventually befriended Jubilee. While saving Magneto, the new leader of the team, as decreed by the last will of the late Professor X, from the assassination attempt of X-Cutioner during his hearing at the Un, Ororo was shot by a permanent power-dampening projectile. Losing her powers, a...

This X-Men ’97 article contains spoilers.
It takes five minutes for “Motendo” segment of the latest episode of X-Men ’97 to reveal its big bad. A stomach-churning yellow creature covered in metal appears on screen and yells, “I am Mojo, your primetime psycho inter dimensional TV producer who feeds off ratings!”
That’s actually a pretty good description for Mojo, one of the strangest Marvel villains of all time. The “Motendo” segment finds Mojo kidnapping Jubilee and Roberto Da Costa (not yet taking his Sunspot moniker) and sending them into a video game. There, they battle various computerized baddies and garner praise from an audience, which in turn makes Mojo more powerful.
Unsurprisingly, the segment includes plenty of nods to the history of X-Men video games. And if you’re the type of person who got upset that the episode used a Snes portmanteau to describe a system that looked...

Millions of fans have attended Taylor Swift’s historic “TheEras Tour.” Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder was one of them, and he recently spoke about the experience, comparing Swift’s fans to the “punk rock crowds” of his youth.
The comments came in Pearl Jam’s new interview with Mojo, in which Vedder told a story about seeing the “Eras Tour” recently with his daughter. He recalled “the run-up to it, making friendship bracelets with her” and was amazed by “the generosity of these young girls and boys, trading these bracelets with different messages on them – lyrics, song titles, just acts of goodwill on these little bracelets. They had found their tribe; they were all agreeing on something.”

Continuing, Vedder said: “The craziest thing was it reminded me of punk rock crowds, of being aligned with all of the misfits in our town, back in the day.

Sunday Am Update: How bad was this year’s Super Bowl weekend? Realize that Kenneth Branagh’s romance mystery misfire, Death on the Nile, opened to more over the Big Game weekend ($12.8M) two years ago, and that’s when female moviegoers were scared of Omicron!
Super Bowl weekend, despite its damper on Sunday business, used to be a box office frame that could still yield results, even for films aimed at dudes. Like in 2015, when the sixth weekend of American Sniper drummed up $30.7 million, or in 2020, when the third weekend of Bad Boys for Life did $17.6M.
Last year’s Super Bowl weekend totaled $52.6M, per Box Office Mojo, led by Warner Bros’ Magic Mike’s Last Dance, with an $8.3M opening. This year, we’re lower at $40M, -24% from a year ago and that’s because there isn’t a notable major studio wide release. That’s also...

Mojo Nixon suffered a “a cardiac event,” according to a statement provided by his family to Rolling Stone.
“Mojo Nixon was full-tilt, wide-open rock hard, root hog, corner on two wheels + on fire…,” eulogized his family. “Passing after a blazing show, a raging night, closing the bar, taking no prisoners + a good breakfast with bandmates and friends. The Beekeeper Worldwide Box Office Updates! (Picture Credit: IMDb)
After the unexpected failure of The Expendables 4, Jason Statham is back on the big screens to try his luck with The Beekeeper. And this time, he’s living beyond the expectations. The American action thriller film directed by David Ayer has crossed the $100 million mark at the worldwide box office. Below are all the details you need to know!
The Beekeeper hit the theatre screens on January 12, 2024. There remains little competition at the ticket windows, which is working in favor of this thriller flick. Of course, Timothee Chalamet’s blockbusters Wonka and Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom also continue to add footfalls. But they released back around December, so there is no comparison.

In the "Star Trek: Voyager" episode "Hope and Fear", a visiting alien named Arturis (Ray Wise) helpfully translates some coded information that the U.S.S. Voyager had recently discovered on an abandoned communications network. Arturis unexpectedly decodes the location of a nearby empty Starfleet vessel called the U.S.S. Dauntless, an experimental craft that is equipped with a new kind of warp "slipstream" technology. The Dauntless, unbeknownst to the Voyager crew, was sent specifically out to the Delta Quadrant to bring the Voyager crew back to Earth, and Captain Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) is elated.
It will eventually be revealed, of course, that the Dauntless is an elaborate booby trap constructed by Arturis, who had been secretly hellbent on revenge. His species had recently been assimilated by the Borg, and he blamed Janeway for his planet's destruction. About a year earlier, Janeway had allied with the Borg to pass...

Mojo (Extra Mojo Edition) reissues Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ 2010 blues album with two new songs: “Help Me” and “Mystery of Love.” The former begins with a classic, “Green Onions”-esque guitar line, as Petty drawls, “You gotta help me, babe/ I can’t do it all by myself.” “Mystery of Love” picks up the pace a bit, opting for more of a classic rock ‘n’ roll sound complete with horns and piano. Its an interesting look at a new side of the band, which famously tried out subgenres like Southern rock and new wave over the years. According to Petty, Mojo was “where the band lives when it’s playing for itself.”

Hull based shoegaze quartet bdrmm return with a new single titled “Mud”. The track arrives hot on the heels of the bands widely lauded second album “I Don’t Know”, which came out earlier this year on Mogwai’s Rock Action label.
The post-shoegaze, dream pop, heavy guitar effects quartet’s latest album arrived in late-June to critical acclaim with the likes of Consequence calling it “one of their most enticing successes yet” and Rolling Stone UK describing it as “a chaotic, thrilling evolution”. The lead single “It’s Just A Bit Of Blood” was also playlisted on BBC Radio 6 Music, and Brooklyn Vegan made the record their Album Of The Week saying that “I Don’t Know” saw them “not only avoid the sophomore slump, but deliver a second album that is miles better their debut.”

Bob Dylan is speaking out about the death of Robbie Robertson, lamenting the loss of his “lifelong friend.”
In a statement he issued to Billboard, the 82-year-old rock legend offered his first public statement on Robertson, who died at age 80 on Wednesday.
“This is shocking news,” Dylan said. “Robbie was a lifelong friend. His passing leaves a vacancy in the world.”

Dylan’s association with Robertson dates back to 1966, when he tapped The Hawks (who would go on to renamed themselves The Band) as his backing band during his 1966 tour.
Now seen as groundbreaking, Dylan’s decision to “go electric” infuriated the folk-music purists at the heart of his fan base, creating controversy wherever they played.

Los Angeles, Aug 12 (Ians) Musician Robbie Robertson died proud that he supported Bob Dylan when he went electric.
The Band guitarist was part of Bob’s backing group known as The Hawks when the ‘Like a Rolling Stone’ singer was famously booed by fans at gigs in the mid-1960s for ditching his acoustic folk style for rock, reports aceshowbiz.com.
Robbie, whose death aged 80 was announced on Wednesday, August 9, said in a 2017 chat with Mojo that has been reprinted by the magazine in honor of his legacy, “(Bob Dylan and The Hawks) got booed all over North America, Australia, Europe, and people were saying this isn’t working and we kept on and Bob didn’t budge.
We got to a place where we would listen to these tapes and say, ‘You know what? They’re wrong. And we’re right.’ Eight years later, we do a tour, the (1974) Dylan/Band tour.

Ben Whishaw has stealthily become one of Britain’s most prominent actors, offering kind aphorisms as the voice of Paddington Bear and issuing intelligent retorts as the latest incarnation of Q in the James Bond series. But a deeper look at his filmography over more than two decades reveals a much more varied body of work. From the meek gentility of Women Talking to the brutal physicality of Surge, from playing with the iconography of Bob Dylan in Todd Haynes’s I’m Not There to committing to the absurdist antics of Yorgos Lanthimos’s The Lobster, Whishaw knows how to surprise in any register.

Bob Dylan is a phenomenal songwriter who doesn’t need much help from other artists to write great music. He did collaborate with other artists, such as George Harrison and Tom Petty, but he has had a fantastic career as a solo singer. One artist who rose to fame around the same time as him was Paul Simon, who did write a song for Bob Dylan, but the folk-rock singer turned it down.
Bob Dylan never capitalized on a song Paul Simon wrote for him
Paul Simon rose to fame in the 1960s, around the same time as Bob Dylan. Simon was the second half of the Simon & Garfunkel duo that he started with Art Garfunkel. The pair had several essential songs from the decade, including “Mrs. Robinson” and “The Sound of Silence”. In a 2011 interview with Rolling Stone, Simon admitted he didn’t like coming in number two to...

So many brilliant songwriters came out of Canada in the Sixties — legends like Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, and Robbie Robertson — that the talents of Gordon Lightfoot are sometimes overlooked by those who don’t know better. He never even appeared on a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ballot before his death at 84. That’s a raging injustice when you listen back to gems like “If You Could Read My Mind,” “Carefree Highway,” and “Early Morning Rain.” These songs earned him a sterling reputation as a songwriter’s songwriter,...

As kids and adults alike, millions of people dream of becoming movie stars. For some actors who make it, though, success on the big screen isn’t everything it’s built up to be. And while most still choose to stay, some stars leave Hollywood to pursue other careers. One such example is Charlie Korsmo, who played the son of Robin Williams’ character in Hook.
Korsmo’s face may be familiar to those who grew up in the 90s. The child star also appeared in movies like Dick Tracy. However, the actor’s career in Hollywood was short-lived, retiring from acting at a young age. Instead, Korsmo pursued a career in academia and is now a successful law professor.

It’s well after midnight somewhere off the coast of Florida, and Mojo Nixon is leading a cruise ship full of lubricated and rowdy country-music fans in a bawdy singalong of a song titled “Tie My Pecker to My Leg.”
We won’t get into the lyrics here, but the verses touch on everything from barnyard sex to fornicating at a county fair. “This guy just heard the song for the first time,” Nixon, 65, and dressed in his customary Hawaiian shirt and uneven denim cutoffs, says, pointing to a man in the front row.

The 2017 summer movie season kicked off last weekend with the strong opening for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which enters its sophomore session this weekend and will once again find itself atop the box office as the week's new wide releases*King Arthur: Legend of the Sword and Snatched*aren't looking to offer much competition. Question is, with the Guardians sequel outperforming the opening weekend of the original by more than 55% (the best opening performance for a first sequel among all Marvel Cinematic Universe films), will the second weekend for the galactic superheroes also outperform the norm? In our showdown featuring Marvel First Sequels you can see the average second weekend drop for the four other films on the list is 57.4%, an average that would have Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 delivering over $62 million this weekend. The best hold among those comparisons belonged to Captain America: Winter...

From Monty Python's Terry Jones comes Absolutely Anything, starring Simon Pegg. The late Robin Williams steals the show, though...
Absolutely Anything has been on comedy fans' radars for a long time. Terry Jones' first directorial effort since 1996's The Wind In The Willows is touted as a zany sci-fi comedy with shades of Douglas Adams and Monty Python's Flying Circus, with a cast that includes Jones' fellow Pythons, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle and Michael Palin, alongside other comedy stars like Simon Pegg, Eddie Izzard, Joanna Lumley and Robin Williams.
Alas, the material doesn't live up to the star calibre, nor the literally limitless potential suggested by the title. Loosely based on H.G. Wells' fantastical comedy short story The Man Who Could Work Miracles, the film begins when a group of power-crazed aliens (voiced by the Pythons) discover a probe with information on Earth's culture and decide...

Monty Python star Terry Jones has paid tribute to Robin Williams, describing the late actor as a "perfectionist".

"Alas! Four years later we finally got the money to make the film. We had Mojo the Dog playing Dennis, and doing it brilliantly," he wrote. "If only Robin Williams could do the voice, we'd be over the moon.
"I emailed him with a sinking heart, fearing that so much time had elapsed and he may not want to voice Dennis. But I need not have feared. He wrote back that he was up for voicing the dog."
Jones continued: "And here's the story: Robin was a perfectionist.

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers have been one of America’s greatest live bands since their first club tours and opening-act jobs, in 1976 and ’77. Lethal garage-rock modernists with pop-hook savvy, they’ve always had the chops and empathy to make a studio record like Mojo: everybody in one room, going for the master take together and getting it fast. They just took 34 years to work up the nerve.
It was worth the wait. Mojo is dynamite — Petty and the Heartbreakers’ matured return to the elementary fury of their first golden-twang era,...
