As the rumors swirl when it comes to the line-up for the 69th Cannes Film Festival, today brings confirmation of one specific title. The festival announced today that Woody Allen‘s latest feature Café Society — which Amazon Studios is expected to release this summer — will open the event as an out-of-competition title, marking the third time one of his films has done so.
Led by Kristen Stewart (who we expect to also show up with Olivier Assayas‘ Personal Shopper) and Jesse Eisenberg, the announcement also comes with an official logline (following last week’s details from cinematographer Vittorio Storaro) and the first still, seen above. Check out the press release below in full and return for our review.

The distributor announced on Friday that Blair Westlake, Andy Schuon, Zvi Rhine and Patrick O’Brien have joined as independent directors and will serve on the board, effective immediately.
Ron Chez, the company’s largest shareholder who along with Sabra Capital Partners has been a vocal critic of Cinedigm’s stock performance, has been brought on as strategic advisor.
The former co-chairman of Merriman Holdings will counsel Cinedigm on financings and capital structure, strategic transactions and opportunities, including acquisitions and dispositions, and other matters.
Cinedigm is understood to have reached a settlement with Chez and Sabra’s Rhine for a standstill period.
The move means the size of the board grows from eight to 12.

Although Woody Allen’s latest, 1920s-set romantic caper Magic in the Moonlight, is just opening this week, news about the prolific helmer’s next project is already emerging. We had previously learned that the untitled film would be set in modern-day Rhode Island and be a “contemporary story” that centers on “academics, graduate students, and middle- and working – class folks.” Additionally, it was revealed that the cast would include Joaquin Phoenix, Emma Stone, Parker Posey and Jamie Blackley.
Now that Allen is rolling cameras on the pic in Rhode Island, some more news about the project has broken. According to the film’s executive producer Ron Chez, who spoke with the Chicago Sun-Times about working with Allen, the new movie is “a murder mystery, set on a college campus.” The Chicago Tribune added that it is a “serious-ish drama.”
So, are we looking at something similar to Match Point? Or...

As one movie opens, another begins production, and that's the way it's been with Woody Allen for years. His latest Euro jaunt, "Magic In The Moonlight," heads to theatres this weekend. Meanwhile, the director is in Rhode Island filming his latest, starring new muse Emma Stone and Joaquin Phoenix among many others. And it looks like the director is headed back into dramatic territory. The film's executive producer Ron Chez told the Chicago Sun Times that the new film is “a murder mystery, set on a college campus,” with the Chicago Tribune adding that it's a "serious-ish drama." And that's about all the details there are at the moment, but maybe it's something in the vein of "Match Point"? We'd be okay with that. Until there's more news, here's some more pics and a clip from "Magic In The Moonlight," which starts rolling out in limited release today. Here's our review.

Chicago – A neurotic New Yorker, Woody Allen has been a fixture in Hollywood for more than 50 years. After racking up 73 writing credits and 50 in the director’s chair, Allen returned to Chicago on July 19, 2014 to walk the red carpet for his new romantic dramedy “Magic in the Moonlight”.
The film stars Emma Stone and Colin Firth.
At the age of 79, our red-carpet video shows you Woody Allen’s enduring wit, discusses what he thinks is funny, reminisces about standup comedy in Chicago and recalls how much the now-vegetarion misses Windy City ribs. The video also includes interviews with executive producer Ron Chez and Metropolitan Capital CEO Michael Rose. Enjoy our red-carpet video below!
While it lacks the oomph and memorability of Allen’s “Blue Jasmine,” which in 2013 scored and Oscar for Cate Blanchett’s leading role, “Magic in the Moonlight” fascinatingly focuses on the seance, psychic and magic craze of the 1920s.
