This article contains spoilers for the first two seasons of The White Lotus.
There may not be a detective on the guest list at The White Lotus, but the dark dramedy could certainly use one.
After all, both seasons of the HBO anthology series start with glimpses of dead bodies and spend subsequent episodes tracking the story of how those individuals ended up in such an … unfortunate state. Hulu‘s Death and Other Details is a bit more up front with its detective work and murder plot, but the series’ witty humor and vibrant scenery gives definite The White Lotus vibes and makes a great stand-in while fans wait for The White Lotus season 3 to drop in 2025. After all, what’s more entertaining than watching wealthy, love-to-hate characters suffer a bit of misfortune on their opulent vacations?

Cue up "The White Lotus"'s theme tune. On Saturday, Theo James, Murray Bartlett, and Mike White had an impromptu reunion at the Loewe menswear spring/summer 2024 fashion show in Paris. The surprising convergence of "The White Lotus" stars brought seasons one and two together in the most fashionable way possible.
The trio of men posed for a photo together in the front row of the show. In the picture, all three men were grinning, with James and Bartlett flanking series creator White. For his part, White flashed the camera a cowabunga sign. The only thing that could have made the picture more perfect would be if Jennifer Coolidge had been there to join in.
Bartlett even shared the photo on his Instagram. He captioned the pic, "What a fun afternoon hanging with old and new friends! Congratulations @loewe and @jonathan.anderson for a mind-blowing #LOEWESS24 show!!"

Mike White has big plans for his HBO satire series, “The White Lotus,” including future seasons set in a slew of locations around the globe, one of which being Australia.
“My dream would be to hit every continent,” White said at a recent press conference during Sydney’s Vivid Festival. “We kind of have to come to Australia if we keep going.”
“It would be so fun,” he continued. “Obviously, there’s a huge wealth of talent here and the beauty is inarguable, so it feels like it checks all the boxes.”

Few love stories are as iconic as the relationship between Elvis Presley and Priscilla. However, it was not without its challenges. Elvis’s home, Graceland, was where the king of rock and roll surrounded himself with family and friends. Therefore, Priscilla and Elvis had very little private time and had to use “baby talk” to communicate. Priscilla once said, “You have to have your own language” to have private conversations.
Priscilla and Elvis Presley on their wedding day, May 1, 1967 | Bettmann/Getty Images Priscilla Presley admits she and Elvis had their own love language
In the early 1960s, many women still subscribed to traditional roles in the home. Therefore it should come as no surprise that Priscilla pampered Elvis as the head of their household throughout their courtship.
She told People Magazine in 2021 that throughout their relationship, she “loved” making Elvis feel special in every way. However, that was sometimes difficult...

“Maybe people see me as a guy heading for an untimely ending,” jokes Emmy winner Murray Bartlett about three of his most recent roles in which his characters have either been accidentally stabbed to death (Armond in Season 1 of “The White Louts”), murdered in cold blood (Nick in “Welcome to Chippendales”) or tragically died in the arms of his life partner (Frank in “The Last of Us”). For our recent webchat he adds, “There is a silver lining, I guess, for me,” he smiles. “I don’t know what it is, but I’m not complaining, because it’s allowed me to do some really great stuff, and not have to stay alive as one character to stop me from playing the next!” Watch our exclusive video interview above.

Exclusive: Kelvin Harrison Jr. (Chevalier) and Murray Bartlett (The White Lotus) have closed deals to star opposite Stranger Things breakout Sadie Sink in Searchlight Pictures’ original rock opera O’Dessa from Patti Cake$ filmmaker Geremy Jasper. It is heading into production in Croatia in May.
Set in a post-apocalyptic future, O’Dessa follows Sink’s farm girl of the same name on an epic quest to recover a cherished family heirloom. Her journey leads her to a strange and dangerous city where she meets her one true love – but in order to save his soul, she must put the power of destiny and song to the ultimate test.
While no details as to Bartlett’s role have been disclosed, sources tell Deadline that Harrison will play O’Dessa’s love interest, Euri Dervish — a punk performer described as an “unholy mix of Iggy Pop, Marlene Dietrich and Prince.”

Sabrina Impacciatore’s life, after being cast as Valentina, the hotel manager in the second season of HBO’s The White Lotus, didn’t simply change, it was turned upside-down.
“It was all beyond my expectations, but it definitely lived up to my dreams,” the Italian actress says of her work on the hit TV show. “Being part of this project was a big, enormous chance for me. Because I was finally able to truly see things that, here in Italy, [otherwise] just wouldn’t be possible.”
Back in Italy, Impacciatore rose to fame with roles in Paolo Virzì’s N (Io e Napoleone) (2006) and Gabriele Muccino’s 2018 hit There’s No Place Like Home. But aside from a cameo as Seraphia in Mel Gibson’s 2004 blockbuster The Passion of the Christ, she’s been all but invisible to U.S. audiences.

Our trip to The White Lotus: Sicily is over, but with a third season on the horizon, it's hard not to think about who we would like to return when it premieres.
The White Lotus Season 2 brought Jennifer Coolidge and Jon Gries back from the first season.
That alone confirms that we could see some faces from the first two seasons appear in the third season.
Check out our list of characters who should return.
Greg
Oh, Greg. I despise him, but we need to see him get some form of comeuppance for his actions.
Portia is the key to taking him down because her fateful final phone call with Tanya confirmed Greg's involvement in the plot to kill and steal Tanya's money.
It's hard to imagine Greg appearing at another White Lotus location, but perhaps he's been given a free vacation after Tanya's body was found floating on the...

The White Lotus was originally supposed to be a one-off miniseries back in the summer of 2021, but millions of fans flocked to the show’s enticing mixture of black comedy and satire of the elite. Now that season 2 has closed with “Arrivederci”, people are hotly anticipating the already-confirmed third season of the HBO hit. With quite a while until the release of new episodes and with the just-finished set of episodes clear in our minds, it’s a great time to discuss some ideas surrounding what creator Mike White will serve up for our next television vacation.
Where will the guests stay next?
The resort destination is a key contributor to the vibe of each White Lotus season. Hawaii was a tropical paradise with dark political undertones in the first go-around, and Sicily was all about romance and sexual energy under the Italian sun. How will the writers of the...

This article contains major spoilers for "The White Lotus" seasons 1 and 2.
Jennifer Coolidge's Emmy award-winning role as Tanya McQuoid in the debut season of Mike White's "The White Lotus," was one of the most talked about performances of 2021. Coolidge was effortless as the wealthy, daffy, emotionally unstable socialite struggling to cope with the recent death of her mother. When it was announced that Coolidge would return for season 2, fans were ecstatic. Coolidge has been a character actor powerhouse for decades, but "The White Lotus" provided her with some of the best material to work with in her entire career.
On a show where everyone is kind of an irredeemable mess, the character of Tanya McQuoid became a fast favorite, because at least she wasn't actively malicious in the way some of her co-stars were behaving. Sure, she fully lied to Belinda (Natasha Rothwell) about investing in her wellness business,...

Warning: contains spoilers for the finale of The White Lotus 2 (and a vague allusion to events in The Glass Onion).
For the last seven weeks, Mike White has been playing us. But not in the way you’d expect the creator of The White Lotus to play you, carefully crafting a whodunnit with breadcrumbs pointing to a mastermind murderer who’d been planning this all along. Nor did he repeat the same successes of the first season, killing a beloved character but in a way that leaves all the detestable rich people mostly unbothered and unharmed, hammering home the point that as much as you can try ando eat the rich, it will never taste as good as it looks.

This article discusses plot points through The White Lotus season 2 episode 4.
Anthology television series can really be something special on a year-to-year basis if the writers of a show know their themes, continue to rework them in accordance with new characters, and respond to audience trends and desires. This is why a series like American Horror Story continues to be a powerhouse all these years later, and it’s also why True Detective whimpered after its first go-around. The first show has a strong grasp on all of these items of importance, and the latter couldn’t move forward without the novel brilliance of Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson.
The White Lotus clearly knew that it was vital to bring back one character from the first season of the show to bridge the divide in storytelling between the two mini-series. They opted to go with fan-favorite Tanya McQuoid on the...

Jake Lacy revealed that his favorite scene wasn’t used in the final cut of The White Lotus.
The actor spoke with uInterview found Erik Meers at New York ComicCon in October about filming the first season of the HBO show.
Lacy described a scene where Murray Bartlett, who played the eccentric hotel manager Armond, is trying to take back his business card from Lacy’s character Shane.

He said the show’s creator, Mike White, asked why Lacy was laughing.

Mike White's "The White Lotus" loves to subvert our expectations, even as it plants the seeds for major moments along the way. Take, for example, the show's first season. When Murray Bartlett's Armond ended up dead in the hotel room of the hotel's most-loathed guest, Shane (Jake Lacy), it was a moment that felt both surprising and inevitable. After all, the pair had been at odds all season, and Armond had nothing left to lose after getting fired. It was a climax we could've guessed in broad strokes, if not in suitcase-pooping specifics. Yet other finale reveals -- like the fact that newlywed Rachel (Alexandra Daddario) stood by Shane after his true, horrible nature was revealed -- still hit like a gut punch.
White has a talent for crafting stories that feel at once totally in character and like narrative curveballs, so it's tough to guess how much...

When you first turn on The White Lotus, you’re going to notice that you’re watching a TV show quite unlike any other you’ve seen for one specific reason. No, we’re not talking about Murray Bartlett’s exasperated Armond taking a dump in a hyper-privileged guest’s luggage. And no, we’re not talking about the same Armond who got to enjoy the sensual creases of Lukas Gage’s ass while performing a rim job in front of God and everyone.
What we’re talking about is the fact that the show is littered with conversations between disgustingly rich people that often make you want to shield your eyes and clog your ears. The awkward tension that emits off the screen is palpable in a way that can only be described as Succession on steroids. The characters say things that would make the corniest characters who have...

The White Lotus broke through in 2021 in a huge way, delivering a compelling story with a clear beginning, middle, and end.
In its transition from a limited series to an anthology, there were concerns about whether there would be a fresh enough plot that would stand up to the first.
After watching the first half of The White Lotus Season 2, I can confidently say that the series manages to transport viewers to a new White Lotus resort, complete with mostly new characters, conflicts, and, of course, mystery.
Jennifer Coolidge is back as Tanya, and she continues to dominate every scene. The stories remain balanced well, meaning Coolidge gets as much time on-screen as the new series regulars.
Despite Coolidge being the main attraction for fans of the freshman season, there is plenty of plot to go around, and the switch to the Sicily-set resort gives the sense that this is a new story,...

The difference between the first season of “The White Lotus” and its Sicily-set second installment is, in essence, the difference between the summer and the fall. Where Mike White’s initial introduction of his fictionalized luxury hotel chain sneaks up on viewers like a biting sea breeze on a sunny day, the writer-director’s sequel wears its pitch-black satire like a slowly shrinking sweater. Each tugged thread connects to the white privilege so shrewdly taken to task back in Hawaii, yet it wisely unravels in new directions — sometimes a bit slowly, leaving baggy parts here and there, but still tying together sly critiques of sex and power, as they relate to men and women of means.
Season 2 is acutely invested in relationships: husbands and wives, in particular, but also young love and old friendships; inherited attitudes toward the opposite sex and the oft-awkward attempts to set new standards. With a...

Jennifer Coolidge fans have reacted after the actor was played off stage during her Emmys acceptance speech.
The three-hour ceremony took place on Monday (12 September) at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles.
Among the night’s winners was Coolidge, who took home her first Emmy for her supporting role in HBO’s critically acclaimed series The White Lotus. The actor played Tanya McQuoid.
Appearing on stage to accept the award, Coolidge praised her fellow nominees and also told the audience that she took a “lavender bath” ahead of the ceremony, which she unfortunately had an adverse reaction to.
As the Emmys production team began to cut off her speech by playing music, she spoke up and added: “No, hang on, this is a once-in-a-lifetime thing, and I’m full, I’m full.”
After thanking her friends and The White Lotus team at the end of her speech, Coolidge proceeded to...

Australian Actor Murray Bartlett, ‘The White Lotus’ Standout, Wins First Emmy, Thanks Mom Down Under
The White Lotus breakout star Murray Bartlett claimed the first Emmy of his career tonight, for his outlandish role as Armond, the ingratiating but conniving luxury hotel manager in the HBO limited series.
Taking the stage at the Primetime Emmys, the Australian actor thanked series creator Mike White, and gave a shoutout to his mother.
“I just want to thank my mom all the way home in Australia for giving me the most wonderful foundation of unconditional love,” he said. “And inspiring me to believe that we can all do that for each other. So, thank you, Mom.“
Bartlett’s win (and first nomination ever) for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie put him up against two other co-stars of The White Lotus, Steve Zahn (“Mark Mossbacher”) and Jake Lacy (“Shane Patton”). The other nominees in the category were Will Poulter, Peter Sarsgaard, and Michael Stuhlbarg,...

Cast members from The White Lotus and Dopesick dominate this year’s Emmy nominees for best supporting actor in a limited series. But could Seth Rogen play spoiler?
Just like they did in the supporting actress category, the actors of White Lotus and Dopesick have claimed the vast majority of slots in this race — six of the seven, to be exact. Three White Lotus actors earned their first career Emmy nominations here for their work in HBO’s luxury hotel-set comedy: Murray Bartlett, as self-destructive resort manager Armond; Steve Zahn, as oversharing dad Mark Mossbacher; and Jake Lacy, as demanding newlywed Shane.

The White Lotus is filled with perplexing characters one of which is Alexandra Daddario‘s newlywed Rachel, a woman who is clearly unhappy in her new marriage and has more than a few reasons to leave while on vacation at the titular resort, but ultimately decides to stay. It’s Daddario’s conflicted portrayal that landed her one of the HBO show’s may nominations at this year’s Emmys. The actress is being recognized in the category of Oustanding Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie alongside her costars Connie Britton, Natasha Rothwell, Sydney Sweeney, and Jennifer Coolidge. While the Mike White project is an ensemble working harmoniously together, Daddario’s performance definitely leaves viewers wondering, what could possibly be next for Rachel who takes her husband Shane (Jake Lacy) back despite the fact that he mistakenly killed tortured hotelier Armond (Murray Bartlett) — and this is after...

Emmy nominee Janet Lopez, the music supervisor for “The White Lotus,” notes that the show’s creator, Mike White, didn’t script any songs.
The idea was to establish the location, which took her into listening to beautiful and important music from Hawaii, that she found through researching the music available from the region’s publishers and record labels.
Lopez’s goal was to thread together a musical journey that resonated with the characters while enhancing the exotic location of the show. “We wanted the music to travel with the emotion in the scene, instead of feeling like pure needle drops on top of it,” she says.
To achieve that, it was down to the show’s editors to connect those moments. Lopez says, “That allowed for flexibility to explore a variety of songs and pursue authentic tracks that were special to Mike.”

The acting awards tend to be among the most anticipated recognitions doled out at the Emmys every year, while several below-the-line awards are announced off-the-air. It makes sense, given that the lead, supporting and guest actor categories are where all the A-list names are housed, but it’s one of the quieter races that provides the TV Academy with talent to root for in the first place: the Emmy awards for casting.
Among the 20 nominations earned by “The White Lotus” are noms for stars Connie Britton, Jennifer Coolidge, Alexandra Daddario, Natasha Rothwell, Sydney Sweeney, Murray Bartlett, Jake Lacy and Steve Zahn. Casting director Meredith Tucker describes the process to cobble together those actors as “fast and furious.”
“We didn’t start casting until after Labor Day, and they wanted everyone in Hawaii by Oct. 15,” she says. “But we were one of the few new shows that was actively casting. Most...

“It feels very surreal! I have never been in this position before, so it’s very sweet,” admits Murray Bartlett, who after years playing various memorable characters in film and television, has finally scored his first ever Emmy nomination for his arguably best-in-show role on “The White Lotus.” For our recent webchat he adds, “I feel very fortunate to have had a long career of doing mostly stuff that I’ve really loved with people that I’ve enjoyed working with, so this is another chapter for me that I’m really loving and embracing. It’s always nice to get acknowledgement for the work that you do.” Watch our exclusive video interview above.

With 20 nominations, HBO’s The White Lotus is the most honored limited or anthology series at this year’s Emmys, with eight of those noms for various members of its ensemble cast. Two standouts of that impressive bunch are Murray Bartlett, who plays the chipper hotel manager Armond as he combusts on a shocking drug-fueled spiral, and Jake Lacy, who plays Shane, a trust-fund baby with a bad attitude who complains after he and his new wife (fellow nominee Alexandra Daddario) are placed in the wrong luxury suite.
The series takes place almost entirely within the confines of the titular five-star resort, where questions of class, race, family and sexuality are all explored in humorous, deeply nuanced and provocative ways. Creating the show was a unique experience — the cast and crew stayed at the Four Seasons in Hawaii in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic,...

Curated by the IndieWire Crafts team, Craft Considerations is a platform for filmmakers to talk about recent work we believe is worthy of awards consideration. In partnership with HBO, for this edition we look at how cinematographer Ben Kutchins, composer Cristobal Tapia de Veer, and casting director Meredith Tucker created a darker, more complex vision of Hawaii for the guests and staff at “The White Lotus.”
Writer/director Mike White is hardly the first television showrunner to create a whodunit where any character could be either the killer or their prey, but his choice of setting provided the limited series with both its biggest draw and greatest challenge.
