Even before the days of Marvel's Cinematic Universe or its equivalent in DC, the relationship between film, television, and comics was a pretty symbiotic one. Just as film and TV are now majorly informed by comics, comic artists have taken inspiration from film and TV — especially when it comes to the design for certain characters. "Batman: Year One" artist David Mazzucchelli famously modeled his Bruce Wayne on "Roman Holiday" star Gregory Peck. Another less-subtle reference to a famous face — and one of my personal favorites — came in 2016's "Invincible Iron Man": artist Mike Deodato Jr. modeled his Tony Stark off Santiago Cabrebra, of "The Musketeers" and "Star Trek: Picard" fame.
Sometimes, though, the inspiration is equal parts thematic as it is aesthetic. On occasion, an episode of television can even inspire a shift in a narrative arc, a fresh conflict, or even a brand new character. Such was the case for Brian Michael Bendis,...

Reginald Hudlin has joined forces with Awa Studios to create a series of original comic book stories that will be simultaneously developed for graphic fiction, film, television and other mediums.
Already on their schedule is a slew of upcoming franchises, with the first title set for release in late 2023. Written and curated by Hudlin, both parties will cooperate in the development of projects from ideation to film and TV adaptation. Each project will be centered around an original story with an emphasis on diverse characters.
The partnership serves as a reunion for Hudlin, the former president of entertainment for BET Networks, and Alex Alonso, Awa co-founder and chief creative officer. The two first worked together during Hudlin’s six-year run writing Marvel’s comic series “Black Panther,” at which time Alonso was editor-in-chief of Marvel Comics. When it released in 2016, one of the biggest complaints about Doctor Strange was that its hero hewed too close to Iron Man. It followed an arrogant man at the top of his game who suffers a humbling set back and discovers a new identity in the East. Also, facial hair. Surprisingly, bringing the two characters together in Avengers: Infinity War eased the comparison, as initial snark-offs between the duo eventually gave way to revealing their distinctive power sets.
But the movie almost went in the opposite direction, further winking at the interchangability between the two. Early concept art posted to Reddit shows Strange wearing Iron Man’s Mark 50 armor while facing off against Thanos’s minion the Ebony Maw. Created by Phil Saunders, who has worked on several MCU films, the images show Strange deflecting Ebony Maw’s needle attacks while wearing the armor, his Eye of Agamotto glowing in the center.

On top of introducing Namor and the underwater nation of Talokan, "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" also presents another major Marvel Comics character: Riri Williams, also known as Ironheart. Created by Brian Michael Bendis and Mike Deodato in 2016, Her vast intellect allowed her to create a suit similar to Tony Stark's. Eventually, the character became Iron Man before coming into her own as a superhero under the name of Ironheart. "Wakanda Forever" marks the character's first live-action appearance, played by Dominique Thorne, with the character providing an interesting dynamic with Shuri.
Since "Wakanda Forever" is meant to serve as the character's introduction before she gets her own Disney+ series, it makes sense to introduce the armor she builds as well. Hinted at being developed around Stark technology, Riri's mark one suit is reminiscent of the Iron Man armors from the earlier Marvel Studios films. The best part about the first...

Spoilers for "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever."
The plot of Ryan Coogler's new film "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever," the 30th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, involves the invention of a massive machine that can detect the presence of the rare, magical metal known as vibranium. The element is so rare that the globe's entire supply is thought to rest under the nation of Wakanda, which has used its fantastical properties to turn itself into a sci-fi utopia. The United States government, however, is eager to get its hands on some vibranium, and their new machine threatens Wakandan livelihood.
Although operated by the CIA, the vibranium detector was invented by a gifted and resourceful 19-year-old college student named Riri Williams (Domonique Thorne from "Judas and the Black Messiah"). In order to get more information about Riri's invention, Shuri (Letitia Wright) and Okoye (Danai Gurira) will entice her back to Wakanda...

"Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" introduces quite a few new characters into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. One of our favorites? Riri Williams, aka Ironheart, played by Dominique Thorne. The character makes a major splash in the sequel, interacting with Shuri (Letitia Wright), Okoye (Danai Gurira), Nakia (Lupita Nyong'o), Queen Ramonda (Angela Bassett), and Namor (Tenoch Huerta) in fun, funny, and moving ways. At the end of the movie, she returns to the US, where fans will meet her again in the upcoming Disney+ series "Ironheart." The character might be new for movie and TV viewers, but she has her own history in Marvel comics. Ahead, we're breaking down her comic history, her role in the MCU and "Wakanda Forever," and where her story could go from here.

Have you ever wondered what R2-D2 is saying with the little beeps and boops and whirring that he does? Is he quoting the galaxy far, far away's version of William Shakespeare? Could he be making a great argument that Luke and Leia really shouldn't be kissing each other? Is he waxing philosophical about the steps that led the galactic government to become the Empire? Perhaps he is commenting on the prequels? Nope. As it turns out, he's just telling everyone to f*&@ *^.
This little astromech droid has a long history in the "Star Wars" universe. We first saw him in "Star Wars: Episode IV -- A New Hope" as Princess Leia gave him data tapes with her message to Obi-Wan Kenobi. "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" is introducing two new major characters into the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Namor (Tenoch Huerta), who will bring mutants into the MCU, and Riri Williams a.k.a. Ironheart, played by Dominique Thorne, whose two film credits prior to this are "If Beale Street Could Talk" and "Judas and the Black Messiah."
While there are — even in a Hollywood saturated with superhero films — plenty of comic book characters like Namor who have been around for decades yet are still waiting to enter the live-action spotlight, Riri's path to MCU stardom has, like Thorne's, been comparatively shorter. It was only back in 2016 that Marvel Comics introduced the character, created by writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Mike Deodato, as a brilliant young M.I.T. student who built her own suit of Iron Man armor in her dorm room.

Unsurprisingly, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is among the most anticipated movies in recent memory. Not only is it a sequel to one of the most culture-defining films of the past ten years, but questions remain about who exactly will play the title hero. But one of the more surprising points of interest involve a new addition to the MCU, Riri Williams aka Ironheart.
Williams first appeared in 2016’s Invincible Iron Man #7, written by Brian Michael Bendis and drawn by Mike Deodato, as a young genius inspired by Tony Stark. In the issues that followed, Williams reverse-engineered Stark’s Iron Man armor to deal with a threat, eventually earning her own suit. In her solo series and in the teen team-up book The Champions, Williams has continued to evolve the armor into something more sleek and personal, less beholden to Stark’s aesthetic.

Fortunetelling is a great trick, but it only works if you know how to cold read -- absorbing everything in front of you and dropping some meaty guesses about what's on others' minds. Figuring out what's next for one of the biggest media franchises in the world is similar. Only President of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige (and those under NDAs) know what's next for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, we can take the hints they're leaving and deliver some fun ideas about what's coming next.
We're about to present twelve educated guesses about the next era of the MCU. Based on what the franchise has already shown us, hints from events like 2022's San Diego Comic-Con, well-sourced filming rumors, and (a lot of) speculation drawn from Marvel's extensive comic book history, we predict what's next for Marvel Studios. We're barely scratching the surface of possible storylines with Kang the Conquerer's rise to power,...

In a strange turn of events, a Marvel artist has publically body-shamed a Black Panther: Wakanda Forever actor in a disgusting online post.
“Marvel artist, Mike Deodato, is being slammed after he publicly body-shamed Black Panther: Wakanda Forever star, Tenoch Huerta, on Twitter. Huerta is best known for starring in Spectre, The Forever Purge, and Narcos: Mexico. During San Diego Comic-Con 2022, it was revealed that Huerta had joined the cast of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and would be portraying Namor (a.k.a. Sub-Mariner). Often referred to as “Marvel’s First Mutant,” Namor is a prevalent character in numerous Marvel storylines and has worked with the likes of the Avengers, Illuminati, X-Men, and Fantastic Four over the years.?

This article contains potential spoilers for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
For a movie that comes out in just a few months, we still don’t know that much about Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. True, Marvel did release a trailer considered by many (including the Marvel Standom team) to be the best in the genre. But that teaser only included a few quick glimpses at returning characters such as Shuri (Letitia Wright) and Okoye (Danai Gurira), and new additions Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne) and Namor the Sub-Mariner (Tenoch Huerta). In fact, the most detailed information about the movie’s heroes has come from merchandising leaks.
That trend continues with new images from three new action figures. Images shared by Twitter user @computron show a set sold at Target that includes Shuri, Namor, and Williams in her Ironheart armor. Unlike the Lego set that featured Shuri in a Black Panther-style costume, she wears a purple jumpsuit here.

Alden Ehrenreich, known for playing the young Han Solo in Ron Howard’s Solo: A Star Wars Story, is joining the upcoming Marvel series Ironheart at Disney+. According to Deadline, Ehrenreich will star alongside the previously announced cast members Dominique Thorne (If Beale Street Could Talk), Anthony Ramos (In the Heights), Lyric Ross (This Is Us), and Manny Montana (Good Girls). The series revolves around Marvel character Riri Williams (Thorne), a genius inventor and creator of the most advanced suit of armor since Iron Man. Marvel Comics introduced the character of Williams in 2016 in a story by writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Mike Deodato. In the comics, she is a super-genius 15-year-old engineering student who attends MIT and designs a suit of armor similar to the Iron Man Armor using material stolen from campus. Iron Man (aka Tony Stark) himself later endorses Williams’ decision to become a superheroine. Ehrenreich...

Jessica Jones Season 3 introduces the mysterious Erik, a new love interest. And yes, he has a Marvel Comics history.
This article contains extraordinarily mild Jessica Jones Season 3 spoilers. We have a spoiler free review here if you prefer.
Erik Gelden. Wiseass. Small time gambler. Petty criminal. Burger expert. Supervillain?
Well, not exactly. But Jessica Jones' new love interest with some low level mental superpowers actually has his roots in the pages of Marvel Comics. Erik was a small-timer known as Mind-Wave, a little known Daredevil villain who has a, shall we say, very strange history. Mind-Wave was created by Marv Wolfman, Bob Brown, and Jim Mooney and first appeared in Daredevil #133 (1976). Real name Erik/Mind-Wave used a helmet of his own creation to enhance his innate Esp abilities. The helmet allowed him to hear the thoughts of those around him and allows the villain to predict the action of anyone he battles.

If you thought having somebody like Blade joining the Avengers was pretty amazing, then you’re definitely going to want to pay attention to this.
In a creative move so bold that you’d have thought it originated during Mark Millar’s run on Ultimate Comics Avengers, the House of Ideas have decided to roll out a super group lineup so wild and eclectic that it may take you a while to believe it’s really happening. But I guess that very surprise is what Savage Avengers writer Gerry Duggan and artist Mike Deodato Jr. are counting on.
Like I said, the lineup alone may sell this series. If you’re curious, know that it consists of Wolverine, Punisher, Venom, Conan the Barbarian, Elektra and Brother Voodoo. But if you need a little more convincing, then you really should check out the trailer Marvel Comics have put together, which can...

Marvel’s big comic book event this year, for obvious reasons, is Infinity Wars, involving the latest threat to the universe from those pesky Infinity Stones. Just like the big screen’s Avengers: Infinity War, the comic promises to have major repercussions for the Marvel universe going forward. And one of the biggest appears to be a complete shake-up of the Guardians of the Galaxy‘s line-up.
Marvel.com has revealed that writer Donny Cates and artist Geoff Shaw are set to relaunch the series in early 2019 with a much different team in place from what fans are used to. In a statement on the website, Cates outlined what we can expect from the first arc of the new Guardians comic – titled ‘Endgame’ – with the writer saying they have some crazy plans in store for us.
“Geoff and I have some Insane plans for our first Guardians arc. This arc is called ‘Endgame,...

As you may have heard, the House of Ideas’ next major crossover event will come in the form of Infinity Wars, which is set to launch this summer. Boasting headliners such as the Guardians of the Galaxy, Doctor Strange, Thanos and Loki, this limited series is sure to feel both otherworldly and cosmic.
From what we understand, the epic will kick off in July with Infinity Wars: Prime #1 by Gerry Duggan, Mike Deodato Jr. and Frank Martin, with the same creative team continuing the journey soon afterward with Infinity Wars proper. Truth be told, we recommend that you begin your reading experience with the prelude book, lest you miss out on any important details.
So, now that the series’ launch is somewhat within reaching distance, Marvel has opted to offer some teasers as we continue to count down the days.
Naturally, the first is for Infinity Wars: Prime #1 and bears...

It’s that time of the month again to go through all comics laced with more than a hint of adamantium.
All New Wolverine #22
Writer: Tom Taylor | Artist: Leonard Kirk | Inks: Cory Hamscher | Colours: Michael Garland & Erick Arciniega | Letters: Joe Sabino
Laura continues her journey into the larger Marvel Universe this issue teaming with everyone’s favourite space adventurers The Guardians Of The Galaxy. This is a new story arc that follows directly on from the previous ‘Immune’ arc. However there is enough information given to easily pick this issue up and enjoy it without having read the previous three. I can’t stress enough how much of a fan of three issue story arcs I am. I think I have mentioned it in every review so far. With all the guests stars that have appeared in the series so far Taylor does a brilliant job of keeping voices unique.
